I agree mostly. I love SMs in the fluff, but in the game, I only really like the fanatical ones. BTs rule!!! I mean, the standard Ultramarines don't have any CC weapons, just the dumb rapid-fire weapons--even though the bolter is a great weapon, it's rapid-fire, so no assault if you shoot. Although I do love the sniper option that Ultramarines have that BTs don't.

Kill the mutant, burn the heretic, purge the unclean!!!!

There are just three simple rules to follow: If I charge, follow me. If I retreat, kill me. If I die, avenge me.

"A Templar Knight is truly a fearless knight and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith, just as his body is protected by armor of steel. He is thus doubly armed and need fear neither daemons nor men."

And then he said that they look stupid and comical in their bulky power armour. Then he said that they make the game unbalanced and 40k would be alot better without any kind of marine. Also he says that when-ever sombody comes in taking the mick of warhammer they always went to the space marines first putting on a stupid voice, saying things like "wow space marines" sarcasticly. I was quite gob-smacked at what this person said, what do you think??

Oh, yeah....them and the Orcs have got to go.

Marines are the backbone of 40k, the Emperor is the heart, the Guard is the body, orks are the weapons,Tau are the mind, Eldar are the legs, Necrons are the armour, Chaos is the mouth and Inquisition is the arms.

Only race i think ruins the game is the Dark Eldar. And that is only because the DE players i play with do nothing else than complain how much GW "loves" SM and DE gets no support 'cause they're not mainstream.

Of course that problem would not exist if GW gave DE a bit of support.

Space Marines make 40k. The first thing you think about when you imagine 40k is the emperors Space Marines!

Fixed it for ya.

BTW, I'd say Tyranids would be your mouth and the Hive mind is that little 'dangly thing' in the back of your throat.

It doesn't matter because GW have got a cunning plan for Space Mariens.

1. Blue Space Marinez
2. Moar Spase Marines (different colours)
3. ?????
4. Profit!!

Amazingly it works.

Personally I don't see how the Halo armor suits are visually any better than SM power armor. Heroic scale being what it is, of course the SM shoulder pads are a bit larger than they really need to be. But then again the Halo armor looks like it s a collection of weak spots, only protected by the fact that it has an invisible force field.

I don't like playing against marines because of their LOL "Can't touch this" armor saves, but I do have respect for the players and armies themselves. I don't think they are overbalanced. They are indeed good, after all, they are the poster boys of GW.

They're the army every other army is balanced with, or if unable to exactly balance, SMurfs take the advantage every time.

I don't have a problem with SMurfs in general, see Archonate's quote in my sig...

There is something to be said about having to rely on your armor saves rather than relying on tactics...

Archonate wrote:Do they [Space Marines] ruin the game? Nah. If you don't like em, don't play them. If you wanna play em, go ahead. But don't get all bent out of shape if your opponent looks disdainfully upon your lack of originality while tabling you in 4 turns because he's got beating SMs down to an exact science after fighting them for hundreds of consecutive games.

EmperorsChampion wrote:That person must really hate space marines to the point where hes venting his anger trying to get other people to see his side. Space marines make up the bulk of 40k players, and just about nearly every player has had at some point thought about playing marines (or chaos for that matter, they are still a 'marine') or have played as marines. As far as they ruin 40k and make GW look bad? That could be far from the truth, space marines are GWs top seller. And it seems like every time I bring someone new into the hobby, they pick up space marines first, and I often tell them everything about every army before they make their choice. People want to be the hardcore badass superhumans that are saving the human race (or destroying it if your chaos.) Try not to believe everything you hear lol.

I agree, and do the same, Space Marines don't ruin it, though I am a loyalist IG player. But I'd actually like to fight against tau or Eldar, or HELL Necron, Im tired of fighting ONLY space marines. So I'd actually kinda try to promo- exterminated for speaking heresy

All modern ideas for physical body armour are flawed by the fact that the energy of many modern missiles would cause serious injury by concussion or bending the limbs, even if the shell is not penetrated.

Also because of the need for movement of the joints, there are always weak spots.

What a bleak, boring place the 40k universe would be for me if I agreed with this.

You don't agree Space Marines are the focal point of 40K?

* Space Hulk: Space Marines vs Aliens
* Dawn of War: Campaign is from Space Marine POV
* Space Marines have Codexes for different chapters
* Space Marines have more models than any other army
* Guess who is on the cover of the 40K rulebook?

Who said anything about the focal point? Of course they're the focal point... That's the problem!

In the 40k universe, SMs are pretty much outnumbered by any other single army. Probably 99.999% of Imperial Guardsmen live out their entire lives without ever seeing a Space Marine. Chances are, all the armies in the game, have a much higher chance of facing Tyranids, Orks, Necrons, Tau, Eldar, or Imperial Guard than they do of fighting SMs. Therefore, I look at SMs for what they are in the fluff: A vast minority which occasionally inconveniences one of the other races. I don't give two gaks if GW puts them at the forefront of every 40k related project.

You can't spell 'slaughter' without 'laughter'.
By the time they scream... It's too late.
