Err yeah... I meant IF you did. Sorry its almost 5am here and I'm still sick so I should sleep but for some reason I'm not tired. Cursed bio-clock not working right!

But yeah, I had a good experience from Wargames Empire when they sold GW stuff. Great discount (better than Wayland actually) and it was really fast too (they are/were also located in the UK). I was saddened to hear that they stopped selling GW products.

I used to also get things from eBay but it seems I can't find the stores that I used to buy from. Discount was very close to Wayland/Maelstrom and shipping was much quicker since it's an eBay store. I'd assume they would have had stock on hand though.

What did you end up ordering from wayland?
( and do you know any discount size in canada other than GCM? )
And does wayland lower the custom declaration price :x

Khorne Daemon army . I figured I could get one army and use it in both 40k AND Fantasy. Talk about a good deal

Also some Quickshade because I desperately want to try that out. I paint very well but very slowly and I want to see if I can crank out an army really quick. Plus I like how it looks anyways so what better way to paint up an army than to spray it red and dip it and throw it about (if you've seen the tutorial by the guys at Army Painter, thats what they do, haha).

GCM is the only one in Canada that I know of though I vaguely recall there being a couple others in my area many many years ago... though their stock was very limited and the discount wasn't that great.

I'll let you know about the customs price when I receive it, hehe.

I was going to make a remark about Maelstrom probably being swamped right now but my big order of minis seems to be in the packing phase now, so there will be pressies under the tree for me this year. Only thing split from the order is Shadow King.

It's a rather small container actually, it weighs very little. Though I suppose when you compare it to plastic minis, it weighs quite a bit! Shipping was £4. Thats like what, under $7 or something? Super cheap. Just the way I like it, haha.

Possibly, although their website itself seems to be pretty contradictory about when they will/won't ship items. For example, when I placed my order (some scenery and random stuff), some text mentioned that because of items being in and others needing to be ordered, my stuff would be sent in separate packages. Fine - I was happy with that. Some of the items I ordered were listed as being in stock. In green text below that, it says 'usually ships within one or two days' In the FAQs section of their site, it says 'Orders placed before noon will be processed and (stock willing) sent out the same day'.

So by that logic, and by whichever section of their website I choose to believe, those items of my order that were in stock when the order was placed should have been sent out the same day (given that I placed my order at 9AM). It has been over a week now and I haven't had anything sent from them and my email requesting info from them has gone unanswered. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting stuff to be sent out the same day but I should have had something from them given that half of the items I ordered were listed as being in stock.

Same here really. I'd expect them to send out the two items they've got in stock straight away but they've kept them aside with the other out of stock items. When they split Shadow King from the rest I was sure I'd get the novel before the rest, but now it seems like I'm getting the minis first.

Though their order status is somewhat odd at times. My big May order was listed as being processed for some time after I got it.

I guess the main thing about online stores is they are rather faceless and you don't know how many staff are working away behind the scenes. I could perhaps understand the delay a bit more if it turned out Maelstrom was run by one bloke from a warehouse somewhere...

Funny thing about that... my order for Space Hulk (last Summer) still says Processing yet I've obviously had it for some time now, haha. And thats the GW site too!

Sleep time... ZZzzzZzzzz

Maelstrom has quite a large staff. At least more than Forge World, that's for sure.

Then to be perfectly frank, there is no reason for the delay, lack of communication and website japery, even with the Xmas rush. I have to admit, I am slowly being put off ordering from there again...

Eh, you can always shoot them an e-mail or pick up the phone, the Maelstrom rep that was here said that people are always free to do that.

rich here.. owner of Wayland...

Just thought I'd post and try and explain what you are seeing..

We stock about 6000 different products. when we opened it was about 900 lines.. just over a year later its a large multiple of that. and we are adding about 4000 more very soon.

Our sales volume are almost 20 times what they were when we opened.. we built our current site not knowing how large we would become in the year since then. I have rewritten business plans almost constantly since.. and each time it needs revision.

Our processes and procedures have changed constantly as we learnt to adapt to the increasing volumes.. one thing I think we can confidently state without question is that we are responsive and honest to our customers.. we have a helpdesk system (just upgraded again) that allows us to respond to you far quicker than the competition. If you have a question about an order it takes seconds to raise a ticket and you will be answered promptly and with an honest and accurate answer.

Stock holding is a tricky one.. we intend to have everything in stock in depth.. but while sales continue to increase it takes alot of money to make sure you have absolutely everything in the right volumes to ship at once we have approx £150k's worth of stock at the moment and we think we need 3 times as much to offer same day dispatch on all orders.. which is our aim. . And as you guys want low prices the margin isnt available to do this overnight it takes time.

The process with us is..

An order is placed.. the order is viewed to see if it can be dispacthed at once. If it can it will. If not and it relies on GW items that are not spare for the order (as in allocated to other orders in the queue) then we are at the mercy of our GW ordering process which is once a week.

We order once a week from GW, and if you had placed an order for something that was out of stock a 6 days ago you could be waiting for the item to be ordered and delivered and dispatched. Our orders are generated and order statuses are automatically updated to awaiting stock, if its in stock or not as we need to make sure all stock we use is replemished. Also some non GW, are not the order it, it comes qucikly process.. some of the lead times on items would make you scream.. but this industry isnt all supplied by one large well setup entity. And we have to work lead times into all our ordering.

It's a bit more complex that I have made out..

But What i can say is that our new site, warehouse management system and warehouse go live sometime in Jan or Feb and it will make a world of difference.

And on that note, Merry Xmas everyone and Thank you to all our customers over the past year.. while you are tucking in to xmas dinner I will likely be in the new warehouse installing the networks.

It's nice to have someone explain how it works. Takes away a lot of speculation with the whole "where's my order" question.

It certainly does but then gain, I can't help but think Maelstrom shouldn't really make claims about 'dispatching items same day if ordered before 12' or 'item usually ships within 2 or 3 days' if that clearly isn't the case...

Cheers Rich, thanks for the explanation. It's always good when people in the know get involved about these things. Now I understand how you run the site and such so it puts my impatient mind at ease

I look forward to seeing the new site in the New Year.
