@Cheesecat

Alright, ill give ya that one, but honestly upon landing in pre-European Canada. I would of said "This sucks, lets go burn something" if I were leading the colony.

Although this was a colony not a raiding force.

Also. Metalli doesn't play a instrument atleast I don't think. We play 40k together when i'm in town.

My band right now has a singer and me. So were lacking pieces and thus have not preformed.

I'd love to in a few years, when School and my learners are out of the way.

That and Iron Warriors don't build themselves! or do they.....?

Here in London you can get booze (including tequila) delivered at any time of day at 50-100% markup so that nobody has to go out to top up for your party. So yes, we can get tequila delivered. They dont do silly straws yet but you can get fresh sliced lemon, lime and other cocktail style condiments delivered with them. So close!

Oh and if you are talking about daytime, all the supermarkets here will deliver both tequila and silly straws. Hurrah!

The US has drive through liquor stores.

Oh, and Texas.

I lose hope in society when I realize how pc and pussified gak is getting these days. School playgrounds are built as if every kid on them is the "boy in the bubble"; fights don't involve fists now but guns (and I can already detect the hand wringing of the liberals eager to jump all over this and blame lax gun laws); oh and crappy, crappy kids cartoons and kids educational programming. I mean Dora? Wonder pets?

My brain hurts just thinking about those kids shows.

When I was a kid tire swings ruled. Big ol' tractor tire suspended by chain. Could pack nearly a dozen kids on it. Sure fingers got pinched, maybe even the occasional dislocation but that was it.

Now everything is so kid safe that kids don't even want to play on the gak.

Yea, I'm young but alot has changed since my days as a small child. Now all the kids smoke pot.

I used to go onto tire swings and spin it around, sometimes hitting the metal bars supporting it, once giving myself a concussion.

Gak happens, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

But now it's all Fisher Price grade bs.

Mn has harsh winters. I know that cheap gak breaks in the winter. I bet the schools spend more replacing broken and cracked playground equipment every year than getting a little extra insurance to cover themselves from injury.

Oh, and with the exception of Law & Order and the military and history channel and Avatar: The last airbender television sucks compared to 20+ years ago.

I lost hope in society long ago, but im stronger willed than most, so it doesnt concern me, i just keep on trucking. The worlds full of freaks, left wing hand wringing woofters, right wing nut jobs, bigots, racists, homophobes, religious zealouts, creationists, reality tv loving idiot women who read gossip mags, and macho girly men who think they are tough while reading FHM and applying moisturiser. Basically i hate 90% of the population of the world, but it doesnt get me down, as long as i can find someone to play 40k with (and i dont like half of them either!) :-)

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

On the topic of hope-

As long as I live in a country which is able to create privateers, there is hope. Fortunately, congress still has the right to issue letters of marque.

Bearing arms is a great perk too, but the right to seize foreign shipping is much better. Imagine creating an international incident for a good day's work, and becoming fabulously wealthy. I would even name my good ship 'Obama's Revenge' and take glee in employing the captured crews in the task of tagging their former ship until the owning country pays its ransom. A picture of Obama with an upraised middle finger on the side of a looted tanker painted by the kidnapped crew of that tanker would be soaked in awesome.

You wouldn't even have to commit any torture or executions. I think you'd have a fair chance of success taking a ship with just tasers, tear gas, swashes, buckles, and other non-lethal alternatives.

Sanctions? Please! If we need to apply economic pressure to someone just churn out writs of mark for all shipping coming to the country or going from it.

I may have become a bit carried away. Basically, that's my hope. That one day we will once more deal in direct diplomacy, and that when that day comes I willl be able to become a privateer.

Somalians are seizing plenty of foreign shipping without the necessity of tedious bureacratic formalities such as letters of marque.

Ah, but I have a wife and child. The life of a pirate is too short, and ends too badly. I need the legalized version where I can retire to safety once I've had my fill of oceanic theft.

Communism would be fine and dandy if everybody put the same amount of effort in, leaders were immune to corruption and all the crap jobs like toilet cleaning got rotated around.

Watch the episode of BSG where they go on strike for a good picture as to why communism wouldn't work, especially with regards to the latter point.

A slum in scotland... the only shinty with a computer!

castles are over rated, you don't want there heating bills, or there cleaning bills for that matter, don't bother trying to maintain them either, THAT'S expensive.

sadly to own a castle you do pretty much have to be a millionaire and earning millions to pay for the damn thing, or be a state payed lord.

Anyway! my personal problem with society is more ignorance to others and general lack of respect for others whilst demanding 100% respect back from them. IT MAKES NO SENSE!!!!! and stabbing them for it isn't gonna get you anywhere... i personally think America has a good system for that, (well some states) legal concealed carrying of arms! you aint gonna piss someone off who can kill you back are you!

State payed lord is better, it is an inherited position usually, and they cant vote you out.

Either that or Bump off anyone closer to the throne than yourself, This is not a small task mind you!

I lose hope when Australians act like wildlife is so scary..

Insects are pussies. Unless its in your shoe who cares. If Australian wildlife was so deadly there wouldn't be any Australians left.

I have a Kangaroo to take me to work and a wombat to bring me my paper, Drop bears to scare tourists and Dingos to punish irresponsible parents.. Plus its not cold.

The other thing that makes me lose hope is how insecure Australians are about Australia being good. They always ask people what do you think? Is like the girl who needs to be validated in looking good every day.. Am I pretty what do you think. .Bah.

But otherwise everythings peachy.

Thats just to warn you, after a while we basically get used to it. Ever removed a large wasp from a room with a piece of paper, a glass jar and a rubber band (to stop it from escaping the jar )?

Or removed two spiders at the same time relatively the same size as the one in the picture Killkrazy posted, but two different species with a Xbox 360 game?

The real threat is not the insects or the reptiles or the few birds that will try to kill you, it's the bears...

Censorship shenanigans mostly come from SA's premier, but they've recently backed down a bit (iirc) so we might get to beat each others brains out with matchbox cars in video games yet.
