What completely baffles me is you are basically saying she had no right to shoot the dog at a later time but she could have done so without question on the spot.
I think that when your child is in a situation like that the best thing to do is to remove them as they have been made vulnerable by something that is trying to *kill* them. I am pretty sure a dog does not attack to wound when it does, especially a pit bull. It was also made apparent that the woman had attempted to scare the dog off first. Meaning that basically it was a last resort but a well placed last resort.

Maybe your are right. maybe you are not. but i just feel bad for the dog. dogs are no born bad. thay are raised bad. when we could have a chance to put that dog through some training and put it with a family that will treat it right. But sadly that will not happen. we will kill it because it is deemed a threat. thats all humans ever do. kill.

While I agree that animlas raised in a poor conditions aren't completely to blame for their demeanor. It still doesn't mean I am going to ask the dog: "Did you owner abuse you?" while it's trying to attack me or is mauling a loved one. Courtesies and mercy go right out the window when my flesh and blood is in trouble. That goes for quadropeds and bipedals!

I am curious, did this article specify what caliber bullet the dog was hit with?

This is a food chain:

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

Anyone else think thats completely screwed up. The guy was in the crocs territory, the croc was doing what it evolved to do, kill something, then eat it...I feel for the family of the man that died, but really, killing the croc following its natural instincts when the guy should have know the risks is messed up...

It has more to do with the fact that if an animal will do it once--it's quite likely to happen again.

Animals are not naturally "maneaters". Sharks, tigers, lions, and other large predators do not naturally attack people. It tends to be a learned behavior, wherein the animal will actually move from its native habitat to becoming closer to humanity so that it can get at an easier prey.

While I feel for his family, it's his own damn fault and the crocodile shouldn't be punished. The reason most animals attack humans is either by mistake, or from starvation(99% of the time caused by humans). And nearly all confirmed maneaters in modern days was due to humans encroaching on their land. Be it through the lumber industries or otherwise.

Really? I mean, really?? I've got to say, if you're content to just let a man-eating croc swim around then you're just fething crazy. The guy was fishing, he wasn't skinny dipping in croc country, he was fishing. In a boat. Or on the shore. If he'd been going for a dip, then it's fair game. I'd really like to see a reference for that last statment of yours, becuase I'm calling bull-gak.

Really really yes, If your heading into croc country you should bloody well know how crocs act. Being on the shore of croc waters is probably the worst place. That's how they bloody hunt.

And an example of my last statement... I think it was last year, some illegal loggers got eaten by tigers Why? Because tigers just don't have the room anymore.

But seriously, fishing on the shore of croc water is just fething stupid.

It is not impossible for dogs that show aggressiveness to be re trained but in cases where lives are in danger there really is no option but to put the animal down.

Also remember that Pit Bulls are bred for their aggressiveness, this is their sole reason for existence, training doesn't come into it, barely contained savagery is bred into them.

Though for most dogs this is correct. Some dog breeds and individual dogs are aggressive by nature.

The guy waded out into the river to unsnag his line.... So yeah he wasnt in a boat or chilling on the bank, he decided to go swimming in croc waters....

Interesting thing, about 5 yards from where he was attacked there was a big ass sign that said "Croc territory, enter at your own risk"

If you said that to me in person, I think I would of heman-bitch slapped you for that comment. Really? No danger eh? Not only did it maul her kid a few moments before, but was standing infront of her door growing and snarling, and Im sure banging its head against the door(Ive never seen an angry pitbull NOT do that) and you think that she was in no present danger?

See in my house, that dog would of been dead so fast it wouldnt of even known it.

Its not often I'm for the shooting of animals, as Kanwulen knows, but the lady is in the right for taking a shot at the dog. She needed to get her child to the ER, and the dog was in her way. My only gripe is that she didn't kill the dog outright. If your going to point a gun at something, you better be willing to end its life. Not wound it, not disable it, kill it. Maybe she missed, but through a screen door at point blank range I doubt it

No one posted what the guy was doing, so I assumed he was either fishing in a boat or on the shore. Going out to unsnag your line in croc country, yeah, pretty fething dumb. But the thing is, animals don't naturally have a taste a human flesh, but when they do aquire it, they become habitual man-hunters. Best to get this one before it snags some kid going for a swim or something.

And an example of my last statement... I think it was last year, some illegal loggers got eaten by tigers Why? Because tigers just don't have the room anymore.

Oh, I get it. The guy was fishing so well, and catching so much, that the crocs didn't have anything left to go on. Makes perfect sense.

But seriously, fishing on the shore of croc water is just fething stupid.

Letting a man-eater of any species free to have another go is just as dumb. (Well, nearly) But what would you say to the family or his mates?

a) Yeah, the dumbass went to unsnag his line, croc saw him, went for it. Dumb bugger, it's his own bloody fualt. Poor croc was starving.

b) Yeah, your mate got chomped by a croc. We'll get the bastard, just you see.

I, for one, am not going to put a croc before another human being.
