There are some Chaos Trolls on the GW Whats New Today thing that look remarkably similar to your scheme, are they yours??

I don't think they're Buttler's, it says they are by Bob Weiss in Maryland. I'm in MD, too! This idea is gaining popularity . His scheme does look really close to yours!

GW wrote:Bob Weiss in Maryland sent us these pictures of his Chaos Trolls. The models were built using the multi-part plastic River Trolls kit combined with the plastic Minotaurs. Components like this add a lot of character to a unit and creates a narrative for them - one troll has spikes and a tail; the other has copious amounts of vomit - the overall feeling is a unit wholly corrupted by Chaos.

Haha wow. I had quite a few people text me about this to!
They are definitely not mine and I hadn't seen them till today so I think its more or less just a major coincident! At any rate, I might have to steal the Minotaur weapon idea.

His scheme is definitelly close give or take some minor details (most noticably the bone-colored areas and the hair) otherwise its spot on. Gave me a good chuckle though I will admit.

Im still painting up some more Trolls right now, so hopefully I can get my camera/lighting problems worked out and get some pictures up for all to see!

Well I repainted the first Troll a bit so it would match Warmongers Ogres a bit more. These pictures have come out a tad better but they still arent the greatest.

Ive also continued converting some of the Trolls. Ill take some pictures tomorrow of the newly converted Trolls but just to give everyone an idea, I found a tied up cow model (from the giant kit iirc) and Ive now got it chained up and being held upside down in front of a troll just to add some character. The Hulk Smash Troll now has a mutated spikey bit coming out of one hand and some giant boar tusks chained to his other, so when he hits you in the face, you end up getting impaled first. Ive also got a defiler face plate being worn as a mask on one of the trolls (andi it ended up looking pretty funny because you can see hes eyes under the horns and his nose is basically in the mouth).

So here the pictures of the repainted Troll, and look forward to some newly converted Trolls tomorrow! C&C always appreciated!

You can hopefully see alot more detail on those scales, and that they have gotten a bit brighter. The highlights on the skin are much more noticable as well.

You haven't thought about the trolls having black skin with red scales instead? I played around with the thought and thought it would be cool. Think about it at least!
On a side note: 600th post wohoo!

Not that fond of trolls in general but I do think yours looks good. Btw, how is it going with Kholek?
I actually put the Kholek MPG sells on my wishlist

@Rose_Mountainz, I never really thought about that because the army was always intended to go hand in hand with Warmongers Ogres and have the same (or as close to as I could get) paint scheme, being the one I have painted up. I also don't enjoy painting black skin too much, its a bit difficult to highlight in my opinion. Grats on 600 posts by the way!

@Saintspirit, Thanks! Is it the idea or portrayel or the Trolls or just the new models (because Im quite fond of the new Trolls!) that you don't like? And Im hoping to get Kholek started soon but Im a bit terrified to paint him, more specifically, his armour. Im not great at highlighting metal in general so we'll see how it turns out. The plan is to make it the same color (a really old and dull feel) as the Dragon Ogres armour. I might actually spray him tonight and try to get a base coat on him.

I'm getting ready to go work on the Trolls right now so expect the conversion pictures in the next few hours hopefully!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok so as promised, heres some of Kholek with some paint on him, keep in mind that most of the base coating isn't finished, as well as the three Troll conversions I mentioned erlier...
Let me know what you think!

So Kholek is following the same general paint scheme as the Trolls/Dragon Ogres. I want him to have that same old worn out look that I achieved with the Dragon Ogre, while maybe even looking a bit older/darker since he is ridiculously old after all!
Currently the armour is the only thing thats recieved more than a base coat and at the moment its still only got the first two washes on it, so not even that is close to being done.
I need to get some feedback for two different things Im stumped on though...
1) What color should his hair be?
2) His weapon. Im debating between a glowing blue/white lightning type effect, or a glowing hot feel. Odviously the lightning effect makes more sense, so Im leaning towards that. But how should I go about doing it?

Aight so this is odviously the troll with the mask. You should be able to see the two green things on the horns, thats actually the "strap" holding it on, but it wont be too noticable till theres paint. Also note that he can still see!

So this guys not only got spikes growing out of his wrists, but hes got tusks tied to his other wrist... Needless to say, don't let this guy punch you in the face unless you intend to get impaled through the head. Ow!

Last but not least, Here is the Troll holding the cow! It might be hard to see since the chain is black like the cow, but hes actually chained up around the feet and being held (odviously) up by the Troll. I couldn't help doing this when I found the Troll, so hope it adds some comedy!

Thanks for all the support thus far everyone. Its really keeping me motivated (which doesn't happen often) on this project, so hopefully I can keep the updates comming at a steady pace!

Hmm... I think it is that the river troll models are really "river trolly", with the fins and all that. I know the usual chaos trolls are often compared to nagash in beauty, but i find that they catch the chaotic troll feeling. It might also be that my friend crushed me utterly with Throgg and six trolls and a warshrine .

Nice start on Kholek anyway. I think that his armour could use some decorations, looks a bit plain by know. Also, since his hammer is named Starcrusher, perhjaps you should paint a crushed star on its front?

Ive actually started on the lightning affect for his hammer, the head of the hammer is emmiting a sort of blue glow effect and ive got lightning streaks that look almost blurry and seem like they are seething down the sides of the hammer. Ive thought about adding some different effects to Kholeks armour as well, but we will see how that turns out.

Im still stumped on what his hair color should be though... any suggestions?

Alright everyone, Im finally back with an update which, needless to say, has taken far to long (one month to be exact)!

I was really hoping to get alot of work done on throughout these past 2 weeks, and alas, I failed. I did however work on Kholek a bit, and he is finally nearing completion. The Trolls are all finished being converted (except for the 3 I'll be grabbing this Saturday) however so that is a plus! I'll be sure to post pictures as the painting begins. If anyone would like I could post pictures of Super Vomit as in all honesty I just couldn't wait to paint it up! So let me know if you all want to see it or wait till the rest of the model is painted (as it stands only the vomit is, and its still a WIP for that matter!).

I have also redone the display board that has popped up in a few of my pictures, so once Im done painting it I'll be sure to post pics, though it has quite a bit of painting required so it might take a while.

On a plus side however, After finally going back and taking tally of all the games played so far, it appears as though I've somehow managed to pull off 13 wins and only 6 losses. Was quite surprised as I for whatever reason was thinking I was about even on wins and losses.

Anyways, heres some pictures of Kholeks current progress. C&C always appreciated!

So for the front of the weapon, I really wanted it to look like it was emitting the whole lightning aura, still need to finish the final highlights, but I think its rather odvious as to what I was going for.

Here you can see the full extent of Kholeks weapon. On top of it emitting an aura, I wanted it to look encased in lightning, and eventually I'll get that effect on all 4 (maybe 3?) sides of the hammer. You can also see some wierd dots on the back of the hammer. I actually had found my old 6th ed WoC book and managed to write out "Source of Thunder and Lightning" in Chaos Symbols on the back of his weapon... A nice little touch that few will understand unless I actually tell them.

So in the last two pictures, you can see that I wanted to add a bit more to the base, and did so by adding a slight cracking lava effect to show that the ground is literally cracking and breaking beneath his footsteps.

*I also ended up going with redish brown hair for him if you couldn't tell.

Edit- I forgot to mention that Im working on buying an actual light box (not just a cardboard box with white paper!) so hopefully I can get some better pictures for everyone!

Well it seems there is a lack of interest in Sir Kholek so I shall switch over to the oh so jolly Trolls that make this army the hilarity that it is!
I finally managed to obtain for myself, the last 3 Trolls for playing my 3250 list (I had enough Trolls, but 3 were from my Orc army >:l ).

One of them is my normal pointing "go kill dat one" Troll so no conversion there for the most part.
The second Troll has been extremely blessed (unlike most of the others) in that it now has a pair of wings!
The third Troll has grabbed hold of some chain and will most likely fling it around aimlessly.

C&C always appreciated.

Awesome work. Some of the best River Trolls I have seen. It doesn't get any better than "Chain Flailings for all" except when it is "aimless" chain flailings. All the better to catch the Chaos Gods eyes and hope for one of their favours. The one with the wings has truly been blessed. I have been thinking off doing a model for "Throgg" King of trolls, maybe use a really large model as the base / beginning (such as Greater Deamon of Nurgle - Unclean One). Have you made such a monster before ? I also really like the Chaos Ogre / Ogres, nice work.

Thanks bunnygurl and Lord of Death!

I haven't ever pondered the thought of converting a monster to that size (let alone converting it into Throgg!), but I am working on converting my BSB from a Carnasaur with a Daemon Prince as the upper torso. Once its done I should be using it as a counts as Juggernaught exalted that still fits in with the Dragon Ogre theme! Hopefully once I get that started up I can post some pictures.

Wow, that sounds like a very complex / detailed conversion. Sounds completely awesome, can't wait to see some pics of that one. Which Daemon Prince model will you be using ?

I'll be using the current plastic one. The waist of it seemed to be nearly the same size as Carnasaur neck so besides decapitating the Carny, I should be able to greenstuff a giant belt and put a belly plate on to mimick the Dragon Ogres. Of coarse, the DP will be getting a headswap as the heads it comes with are just so... horrifying.

Sadly I don't think Ill be picking up said Carny for a few weeks so I might not be able to post pictures for a while though Ill do my best.

On the bright side, I have finally worked myself into base coating the skins on Trolls, so soon enough the army should be getting well under way painting wise. This has alot to due with the fact that said Ogre player I am "alligning" my army with, almost has his 3250 painted and its looking so cool that I just really want to get a doubles going along side it.

@ Lord of Death, at the moment I am thinking about using the Khorne Spawn head, but it subject to change, and probably will. Im also thinking about using a PP Carnivean head but we shall see.

@RiTides, thank you sir, I look forward to seeing yours with some paint still! And I must admit, I need to thank you for sort of reminding about those wings. When I saw your Trollbloods, I remembered I had unused Epic Thagrosh wings from my Legion of Everblight!

Hey everyone, so Im finally getting back into the fray and looking to get this army done. I don't want to say Ive done much work in my absence because I honestly havent, though I did manage to basecoat the skin for all of the Trolls and nearly finished the winged troll.

I finally got fed up with the lack of quality pictures however (after viewing them on a friends computer, I noticed just how horrible the pics had come out!) and decided to finally make a "photo box" to take pictures in (though I did make it in about 5 minutes and the background was way to small, which is why most of the pictures taken dont fit the entire model in them ).

While they still aren't the greatest pictures, they are a vast improvement upon the previous ones, so hopefully I can get some more feedback/tips from these.

On the contrary, This past week I was hard at work on making stuff for a massive 51,000 pt siege game we were having (17k defenders, 34k attackers) and in the midst of it all, I created a floating rock Sorcerer based off the one in the back of the Fantasy rule book, so I added in a couple pictures of him of coarse!

As always, C&C is greatly appreciated, and look forward to a large amount of work being done soon, along with a couple other surprises I got planned!

---Retaken Kholek Pictures--- When I get a bigger background/photo box as well as actually finish the picture, Ill be sure to retake pictures, included some of the details (such as the lightning on the weapon, etc).

Kholek Back

---Retaken Chaos Troll--- I know you've probably seen enough of this Troll by now, but hes still sadly the closest one to be being done.

---Rock Sorcerer of Doom!--- This guy really needs a name so if anyone has a suggestion please do share! Also, if anyone wants to see some close up pictures of just the Sorcerer conversion let me know and I can put some up.

Loving the new pics of Kholek! The armor / horn texture on his back is really nice, I wouldn't have thought to do it like that (seemingly painted more like the horns on his tail than an armor plate, which is perfect!).

Is that floating rock going down to a 50mm base!?

Also, I'm guessing this is separate from the troll-on-disc you're going to be using for the army list? It rocks either way!

Thanks for all the comments! Ill be sure to post up some pictures of just the Sorcerer I suppose! Of coarse I will have to finish it first...

Interesting name Vit! I was orienting myself with the Tongue/Writings of Chaos and came up with a few names like Hrothrax the Scourge, Egrim Soul Harvester, and Valnir Shyish.

Thanks RiTides, I wasn't sure how I wanted to do the spikes on his back at first, mainly because they looked exactly the same as the ones on his tail. So I figured I would paint them the same and assume that the armour had been crafted to go around them? Who knows
That rock is on on a hill. The one Im making for the troll is very similar but of coarse much smaller (though still big for a disc!) and wont have the giant Chaos Star, but will have other unique things to it.

Im hoping to get some progress shots of the Palanquin, Disc, and Juggernaught Trolls up next week (though this 100% depends on the OnG release and how much I spend on that).

Well I apologize for the lack of updates everyone. Believe it or not I did have everything ready to post however someone in my family decided to have a kid so that kind of threw me off for the week.
I suppose on the bright side this should be a rather heavy update with lots more to follow!

As you can see the Troll Sorcerer and the Troll Palanquin are well underway. The only thing left to do on them is gap fill and a tad bit of GS work and start painting! The Palanquin will be carried by a mound of nurgling (like any Nurgle Palanquin should be!) and Ill be using the Epidermius(?) model for the mound of Nurgling but that wont be until next saturday. I will also be getting the Plastic Juggernaught for the Troll Jugger conversion this upcomming Saturday as well as the Carnosaur for the Dragon Ogre Jugger in 2 weeks so Im hoping to get all the converting on them done before the Orc release hits home!

I of coarse have pictures of the Rock Sorcerer of Doom and even threw in a rock comparison between the Troll Sorcerers rock and Valnir Shyish's (as he is now known) rock.

Even got some WIP pics of various Trolls!

Enjoy and C&C is always welcomed/appreciated!
