Nice progress, Buttler . Way ahead of me!!!

For the unit sizes, I'm thinking my dragon ogres will be in 2 units of 4 (rather than 1 unit of 8) with AHW. 20 attacks at str 5 (counting their stomp) against infantry

I just got my second 1000 point game, and took throgg, a giant, 6 trolls, and 6 tricked out ogres. The ogres did awesome!!! I was very pleased... and they could move away from throgg without becoming paperweights

Are you planning to run all the trolls as one giant unit in horde formation . That would be cool to try out at least! Although you'd probably need something in there for magic defense so they don't get dropped into a hole / purple sun'ed / any initiative-test-based magic spell.

Edit: I also just found out in YMDC that it looks like throgg can use his breath weapon and attack normally in the same round of combat. He is insane! He pasted the ork hero in the game I just played, although to do so he has to survive his opponents hits... which he didnt do in the previous game!

Well that list I posted before was only for the double's 1500pt tourny which I ended up using my normal WoC for (and did really well!) So I have actually been playing 2500, 3000, and 3250 pt games with the army.

Both lists include Throgg, Kholek, a Shaggoth, and 3 units of 6 trolls. Depending on the game size, the way I run the Drogres differs. This past saturday I played 3 more games all at 3k pts and decided to run the Dragon Ogres in a 12man unit (4 wide 3 deep) and they did amazing.
Of coarse stupidty has skrewed me up quite a bit (even with throgg there!) but trolls can take a giant beating so they usually seem ok.

So far Ive played 6 games and won 5 (lost one to a dwarf player running a single block of 100 and the rest all warmachines with flaming>.< ) so the army is doing much better than expected. But I honestly think most of it is due to the fact that people are not prepared for what Im brining to the table, cause its something that none of them have ever seen before.

Good to hear, Buttler! I think taking something that's not the norm can be really effective in practice (if not in theory...) for just that reason . Plus, throgg is plain scary...!

So I must apologies for the lack of updates (and even more so for the lack of paint!). I seem to be very busy lately with other various project (*Cough* World of *cough* Warcraft) and it seems whenever I try to sit down and paint, I get side tracked with converting anyways. But its been a month since my last real update so the least I can do is post some pics of the few things Ive accomplished.

First and most importantly, I finally got my hands on a LoTR Dragon, and with it came out of the ashes yet another Khornate Lord, that I merely kitbashed out of a Chaos Knight.
I've always loved the look of the Chaos Knight lances but could never find much use for them until this point, and yet, they all seemed lacking in Lordliness so thus I cut up up 2 different lances and now he has a ginormous lance of which he will use to smite his foes. Oh and I also added 2 spikes (Chaos Warrior helmet horns?) to his gauntlet so he can punch you in the face when the Dragon dies.
-Oh and hes also magnatized to both the chariot and oval sized bases for use in LoTR and Warhammer.

Second, I got a few trolls converted up though they are not completely finished. I have found that I really enjoy cutting off the weapons so it looks like your going to get a fist full of pain.

And lastly, I decided I would give you some painted pictures of my "Big Mini's" that I will eventually (tomorrow to be exact) get to run along side the army!

The poor dragon looks like he'll break his neck with that chaos lord on him! Still everything looks great. Freaking love the Kholek model. Looks exactly like his artwork!

Way to keep leading the way, Buttler! Your troll conversions rock... might have to steal an idea or two although mine are staying pretty standard for now. I'm also only going with 15 instead of 18 since I'm only building the army up to 2500 atm (might add Kholek in the future but I don't really enjoy games above 2.5K anyway). And I'm thinking I'll actually be running my dragon ogres 2-deep now, too... but perhaps naked (no AHW or GW) to save some points.

Decided to add a DP to mine to get a big nasty in there and have some wizard levels, too

Wow, looking at this again post-assembly, I see that your dragon ogres are a lot cleaner than mine... that strap holding the shield onto their bellies is nifty!!

I am atm going without the shield... I got a bunch ready to put on but it just didn't look right. Now I realize it's due to the lack of a strap, but I think I can get by without 'em (the angle people usually look at minis makes that part pretty hard to see, anyway).

Since you're ahead of me now I need to see paint to get inspired to get to the painting stage on mine . Also ended up putting the trolls off till last after seeing these excellent conversions! I like the plastic kit so much that I don't think I'll be doing much converting on the weapons of mine (and I'm worn out from the ogres/drogres... lol). But yours rock!!

Be sure to post up pics from the 2.5K tourney . Would also like to see the list you end up running (if you don't want to auto-lose the banner mission, do you have 2 units of ogres?).

Also, I don't think Kholek is legal at 2.5K due to percentages... or is he?

So while Im a bit under points, it shouldnt make too much of a difference I hope I was originally going to go without Kholek and throw in a Jugger BSB among other characters but decided against it. If they happen to throw out the Banner scenario then I loose, but Im sure my opponent would be more than happy to play a normal game in the meantime! Overall Im not really expecting to win, I just like playing new armies and people for a change, not to mention it gives me more experience with the army.

And alas, I started to slap paint onto Throgg!
At the moment hes only got alot of basecoating and a wash on the skin, so mind you hes nowhere near close to being finished, not to mention my rather hastily taken pictures don't do his current work any justice! But I needed to post something since as of late Ive been neglecting this army/blog for Fable3 (its soo addicting!).

The goal is to do alot of work this upcomming week but seeing as I tend to drop the ball on most of my promises, I probably shouldn't make one this time!

Haha, its a very fun army to build and play (though quite unreliable!) and requires a lot of work but its definitely worth it in my opinion.
Im trying to go for a tan flesh tone kind of feel, with red scales, fins, etc. The Shaggoth and Dragon Ogre on the first page are the best comparison to the colors Im going for. And yeah, the goal is to get alot done in this upcomming week but we shall wait and see what actually happens.

*I also meant to ask this in the last update but forgot to so Ill just throw it in here. I need some ideas for a Exalted BSB on Jugger, but Im not sure what I want to do quite yet. Id like to keep in theme with the army so using a normal jugger is not what I want to do. I was thinking of picking up the dreadlord on Cold One and using that Cold One as a basis to try and make a more dynamic and bigger Dragon Ogre. But Im not sure how big that Cold One is compared to the plastics. What would everyone think of a Larger and more dynamic Dragon Ogre as a BSB Jugger? Would you play against it? etc. And any ideas would be great!

Ps. How does the MissPaintingGroup Throgg and Kholek look up close? Are they a pain to work with?

@ Vitruvian XVII- Thanks, and the MPG models just have a ton of detail on them and are just really great models over all... They are probably the easiest models Ive ever worked with actually, since they come ready to glue (they get all the flash and what not off for you). And all the pieces come in a pentagon shape for the joints and what not, so unless you intend to mess up the models, its virtually impossible to.

@RiTides- Well I ended up not being able to use the Beasties as the tourny did not allow special characters (which I sort of figured, since Ive learned not to trust what GW Employees tell everyone) contrary to what GW staff said. Luckily I brought my Orcs for that very reason and ended up getting best sportsmanship so that pretty cool

Ill try and paint up Throgg a bit more as well as a few Trolls and post pictures later tonight. Thanks for all the replies so far.

Looks good right now, I really want to see the trolls painted in those colors. How much lighter are you going to be painting Throgg's skin at this point?

Well, as fate would be I got the red rings on my 360 :( But this gave me a chance to completely paint up my first Chaos Troll!
I spent most of today doing this and at this point I can honestly say this is my best paint job thus far, and the most time Ive put into a model (not including ForgeWorld).
I still have a few things Id like to finish on it, but as of current I hope this can be considered above table top (even if only slightly!).
This was of coarse the Troll wielding my converted double sided scythe, and bears the colors of Khorne, as well as the collar (and rightly so!).

As always, I appreciate everyones feedback!

*Ill try to get better pictures tomorrow, since I sort of threw together this "light box" and took the pictures rather hastily and they truthfully arent doing justice to this poor fellow.

Looks great, the combination of weapon swap and different colour scheme really make it unrecognisable as a River Troll. Excellent work!!!

Thanks for the replies, Ive been trying to knock these out at about one a day so at this point I got three more to show you. Also, Ill be getting some pics of Warmongers Ogre progress (and hes alot farther along than me so expect a great deal of pictures!).
Once again I had to use a crappy "light box" so these pictures are still comming out rather bad, so I apologize for that. In any case heres some more Trolls for your viewing!
*Youll notice the skin on each of these Trolls is slightly different. At first I didn't mean to do this but by the time I started up the third guy I decided to purposly go for a slightly different highlight on each Troll to differentiate them a bit and give it a bit more realistic feel (yes I know, its a fantasy game, they are Trolls, what could possibly be real about it!?). They all also have a purposly dirty look to them, especially on the skin.
*None of the Trolls are 100% completed yet either. All of them stil lhave some minor details and stuff to fix (especially the fourth one, you can see all sorts of black spots on him!), but hopefully I can get all six done for Saturday, and post some pics!
*These 3 new Trolls might or might not (who am I kidding, they odviously are...) be missing their back fins... Oops! So that will have to be fixed later on and sadly at the moment I think is pulling away from the final feel of the models.

Troll #2- This guy had some scale problems, I didnt cover enough red on it so its slightly different from the rest, but its not too recognizable luckily.

I've known this would be an issue at times, thankfully I've noticed that the store where I tend to go to tourneys here (Showcase Comics) has taken to specifying which characters are not allowed (Fateweaver, Teclis...) and Throgg hasn't been on the list thus far

The trolls are looking great! I wish the lighting was a little better, but I think the flesh color and the red make them look very chaos-y (and obviously all the conversions!). I'd be tempted to go more wash-heavy on the flesh (to give it a bit heavier shading, although that may just be the lighting), and especially on the silver of the weapons.

Those are my thoughts, but they are looking fantastic!

Sadly, the pictures Ive got posted right now are just horrifying, mostly due to the lighting, but I also need to fix some messed up camera settings. Was taking a look at the pictures from a friends computer (Warmongers actually! I was going to try and get pictures of his Ogre army alone and along side my trolls...) and they look even worse there...

It seems like the pictures are making the scales specifically look much lessed detailed than they are, and they appear to be showing a bunch of black areas that aren't actually there.

The skin is actually darker than in the pictures, and Im planning to highlight it even more to give it alot more depth. Im also going to continue with the scales onto blood red so that they match Warmongers scales.

I apologize for the pictures, and Ill do my best to get some good quality pictures during the week, though I make no promises.
