Cheers mate!

Well, as the Marine and me are in Belgium and the sculptor in Northern Ireland, getting the scale right proved next to impossible, even with high-res reference pics. So the terminator is about 4cm taller than the FW marine and that translates into a somewhat bigger scale.
But actually I do not mind at all, as they're just presentation pieces and it turned out to be an awesome sculpt.

I can't believe I have missed this thread for so long

Excellent FW marine.

I can't wait to see what you do with the Terminator (though he looks quite long in the midriff - it could just be lack of arms etc making it look odd though )

Thanks guys!

Yeah, the terminator is almost spot on, but apparently some shapes of it are so incredibly tricky that they're hard to replicate 100%. Also, the sculptor had to give the model a mid section as just enlarging the 28mm figure would result in a quite messed up anatomy.

As for the size... originally it was meant to be the same scale as the FW marine but after some corrections during the sculpting to keep the proportions intact it ended up a few cm bigger, and that tranlates into bigger scale.
And honestly i really don't mind as the two models are not supposed to be paired up. And that large scale is really such a joy to paint. You have much more leeway in everything, ànd you can put more detail into it as well.

I'm gonna go with "no." : )

@Meph.
Although I don't tend to like the beaten up look on SM's (especially the flaking shoulder pad), because they take such good care of their armor, I still think that your SM model looks incredible. Great job on it. Especially the optics on the helmet and bolter.

The only thing I think needs work is the skull. It just looks too bleached out to me. You're missing a lot of definition and shading in it. It really detracts from the awesome job you did on the SM, IMO.
Even on a battlefield where the sun beats down 24/7, and a skull might get the chance to get this bleached out, it's still going to be dirty as **** from all of the battlefield debris. Presumably, it's been on the field longer than the SM, and look how torn up HE is. ; )

Especially if you intend on entering this in a GD contest, I'd suggest a bit more time on the skull.

I am absolutely floored. That is easily one of the best painted models I've ever seen, if not THE best. That is museum-quality work right there.

Cheers guys! The comments and feedback are greatly appreciated.

Well, you're spot on, that skull is too bright indeed. After first darkening it with inks I drybrushed it with some beiges and finally Vallejo's Foundation White, which apparently has a distinct greyish tint to it. Sadly the grey only came out after the paint had fully dried and drybrushing of normal white was necessarily a bit harsh. Luckily the skull's not glued on yet so that's lying aside for a reworking.

My original plan was to it more 'traditional' medium beige/bone but yeah, I probably should probably darken a lot it to a medium-dark bone colours and then dirty it up with some browns and some greens, for dirt and mould.

Hehehe, GD... a mate of mine actually urged me on as well. I got kind a curious and looked around a bit. As I'm pretty central in Belgium, I have access to the GD's en France, Germany, UK, and possibly Spain. But it seems rather hard to find some concrete dates and location. GW's site is a bit vague about it.

Here's the reworked Skully. I just gave it a light wash of devlan mud+gryphonne sepia+water. Next I played around a bit some weathering powders, which I applied with just Vallejo acryllic thinner.
Looking better, innit?

Damn, Meph.
That looks a lot better. TONS.

Myself, I don't like using black in the recesses of skulls because, really, those recesses aren't black. They're bone colored, too. I prefer making them darker looking bone and adding a little shadowing.

That said, it looks "in place" where you have it, and the colors go along NICELY.

Job. Well. Done.

Meh! its alright I suppose if you like that kind of thing, .

Nah superb Meph, an outstanding build and I'm pleased to say that I've learnt and been inspired by more than a few of your techniques.

How about you though? How are you feeling now its completed? Any plans for some of the other FW sculptures?

@Gac666: Sure thing, I can whip something up for you. What resolution would you like? 1680x1050 or 1920x1080? Don't forget the candles and the incence!

@MagickalMemories: Cheers! Actually, at first I had left those recesses 'standard' but after test-posing I felt it needed some more depth and contrast. It felt a bit 'flat' from some angles.

@Lennysmash: Hehehe, yeh, it's an acquired taste and may not be for everybody... Actually it does feel kind of strange to see that model sitting there, finished, not needing some attention... It may have been 'only' 100+ hours, but spread over two years it feel like that thing has been a WIP forever. Sadly, FW have no other sculpts of that size, which is a crying shame... but that's also the reason I commissioned a Terminator on roughly the same scale. That one's already been undercoated and ready for some lovin'.

@tomorf: Well, I bought it straight off the Forgeworld website, they still make it

You can make a 1920x1080 i can scale it down myself to 1680x1050 (and maybe some other people will want one ), but it seems you have a good camera, so maybe we could go wild and make a 3000px photo (you could print that or something... maaan it would be awesome)

I actually managed to get second place in the GW Lowlands Painting Competition in Amsterdam, even got a mistyped mention/listing on the GW site, yay me!

Article 1
Article2 - Listing

I didn't attend the Amsterdam session myself sadly. With the fuel costs these days it would've cost me around 140 EUR for fuel and parking and that was a bit steep to go just show a model for a competition with nothing to win. So the GW folks of GW Antwerp were kind enough to take the mini along for judging. the winner was actually the same guy that also got 1st place in the Antwerp heats, where I also got 2nd place.
