I was told that you should let your arms rest for 48 hours after a workout.

Depends on the workout. I personally take about 4-5 days. 48 Hours is a general rule of thumb, you cant actually feel DOMS (delayed on set muscle soreness) until 24 hours have passed. If you are in the strength, hypertrophy range, general fit 48 hours is good. If you are in endurance, cardio range 24 hours is good. If you still are sore after 48 hours you have probably torn something and should take a few days. If you are serious about your training and have a routine it will be very easy to take 48 hours between working the same muscle group. Like i said it is 4-5 days for me. (And i have went from 140pounds to 185 with very very little fat) You need to learn to rotate your days. Your body can only handle so much, and you want to poor maximum energy into working each muscle. So very common is the 3 day split, Legs, push, pull. Less common is the 4 day split which is what i do. My work outs are a little bit more intense though, but i do have a few days to recover. I do Push, Legs, Pull, Shoulders and core.

My leg work out at the moment is: Squats, Split leg squats, Dead Lifts, Leg Press, Leg Extension, Leg Curl, Standing Calf Raise, Seated Calf Raise.
3 sets, 4 sets split leg, the rest 3 sets
I only do 6 reps

Its pretty obvious this is a hypertrophy routine. This is pretty decent for getting lots of growth hormone in your system. Also putting on a large amount of muscle to Quad group, Hamstring Group, glutes and calves. At the same time its very difficult so its burning lots of calories and really making you sweat.

Aiight thanks man.

I will definitely start doing the push, pull, legs.

You learn something new everyday! : )

Btw I finally was able to bench my bodyweight. It was intensely difficult and I had a spotter but hot damn! That feels good.

Tried the gym for 6 months. Wow, boring. I just dont find sport\gym\exercise fun.
Ed.. not eating the right foods I believe ages you a lot worse. Just look at people who smoke and drink. They look way older then they should.

I don't spend any time in the gym... I joined a gym for 3 years and my membership just recently expired. I went to the gym religiously for the first year. After that I didn't want to waste the traveling time to and from the gym. I have better use for my time such as watching TV...

I work out about 5 to 6 days a week running between 4 to 6 miles each day. I prefer to run outside. I run early in the morning during hot days and usually in the afternoon after work on the cooler days. I am lucky that there is a 6 mile track behind my house.

There's this old guy that runs on that 6 mile track I see almost every weekend. He runs without a shirt in 40 degree weather!! Yikes !!

Ya that is why gyms like to sell year long passes. Most people don't even go after a month or so. lol Huge waste of money.

That is why gyms like to set up automatic cc billing - they they can just bill you even if you don't go.

Yes, yes it is.

The corpse hasn't been buried too long, so I guess I'm not necro-ing.

Over the past month, the wife and I have been doing the doing the South Beach plan. It seems a lot easier that the first time we did it. We've discovered more that we can eat, and can keep out meals interesting.

I'm a hair over 6 ft tall, and weighed in at 247.

I had to think about the exercise part. I've always been able to bike 20 miles at a decent pace. I did want to try something different, and not aerobic. JohnHwangDD 's post about not needing equipment inspired me to give ye olde push-ups a try. It was a bitch at first, but after a week, I was pretty close to doing a "correct" push-up. My routine was to do 3 sets of at least 10 until my arms just failed, with a 5-10 minute rest between sets. After a month, I am feeling stronger. I'm starting to alternate days between push-ups and sit-ups now, just to expand the effect.

I'm down to 240 now. If I keep the routine up (which has been easy) I should be in good shape.
