I got 2 on order. One for playing with and me to paint and another for the cabinet that I'm getting somebody to paint. Won't do a blog as such but I'll post pics of the thing when it's painted.

Dynamic and beautiful....but I'd NEVER drop $400 on a dragon model. I do love Heresy's stuff but I'd never pay that. Sorry.

You can get ones that are just as big from Reaper for about a quarter of that.

Err, I think you need to look at the model again. That thing would eat one of Reaper's dragons for lunch.

It's an awesome miniature. Just can't really afford it right now.

One could buy every single one of the below Reaper dragons for $400

Every single one is the exact same size as the Heresy Dragon - 12"

Huh? I didn't think the Reaper Dragons were anywhere near that big....

I haven't checked the others, but the very first one you posted as being 12" is nowhere near as big as the Heresy Dragon...

According to Reaper themselves, it's only "About 4" tall from the tabletop and 6" wide from wigtip to wingtip."

Both those dragons look like they'd gak their pants at the sight of the Heresy one.

I'd be interested in seeing comparison shots, but I also doubt they're as big... for that second one, to have a wingspan of 16", they must be measuring the length of the actual wings, not the distance tip to tip...

So the model is 12" because the wings are near vertical, and the wingspan is 16", but the width of the model probably isn't nearly so.

Regardless, the Heresy dragon is beautiful in its green stage. I would advise anyone interested to hold off on ordering for now, though- there's a large number of preorders for them to work through first, which were half the current price, and the mold isn't finished yet, so nothing's still guaranteed!

If you're going to pay full price at this point, anyway, you might as well wait and make sure that the parts look as good as the green... and that they're going to be available soon after you order! If you put one in now, it will probably be a number of months yet before you would receive it, at best...

However, if anyone on Dakka does paint one of these up, I'd love to see the pics! It certainly is impressive...

That model is really incredible! Glad to see it finally come to life - it has been a WIP for some time.

If I ever got one I would make it in to a regal copper with full crew and harness.

Nice Temeraire reference. Hadn't even thought of those books when looking at this guy. Think I've said it before but I'm getting one painted for me so will post it when its done. I'm sure pics of unpainted versions will appear on the net but will try to post some up myself along with some size comparison pics.

Are Heresy ever going to do any other miniatures? I've got a ton of their other stuff, but all it seems to be these days is Dragon Dragon Dragon!

Well a lot of people paid up front, and have probably gotten a bit antsy, so I don't blame him one bit.

The Dragon does look cool though. If I had ever finished painting my Netherlord, I might get it.

The test cast parts look sweet! Would like to see it tacked together.

As to it being only "dragon" these days... I agree it makes total sense. He's got a huge backlog of people who have partially (or fully for most of them) paid for this thing- and that's 100 pounds each. With a few hundred people having paid at least, that really requires some attention... especially given the fact that some paid 2 years ago!

It's an interesting approach to go all in on a model like this, but it looks like it might actually pay off.

I'm also intruiged why the wings are attached to the body... would make it more stable possibly, I wonder if there's an advantage (other than molding process-wise) to having them separate.

Wow. I wish I had the money for this guy. I mean, I'd feel weird sticking an elf on him, but just to have and paint would be pretty awesome.
