Phayse, you're wasting your breath. There are some people on the site who only seem to be here for the purpoe of being vitriolic.
I don't understand the haters. The guy's running a contest, so he's free to run it the way he wants. He's fronting the prizes, so he makes the rules.
Is he trying to drum up sales? Sure. Why not. He'd be stupid NOT to. One does not go in business NOT to sell.
Do I like his limitations? Nope. Not one bit. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a right to do so. We are not all entitled to have things OUR way ALL the time. Get over it.
If your only cnotributions to this thread have been to deride the idea and/or people posting in support of the OP, then you're here for the wrong reasons and need to just get on with your life.

But I can't agree with your critique of the competetition, unlesss you can put your money where your mouth is. "If you can say this is crap because XYZ", you gain some credibility. "If you can say this is crap because of XYZ but here's what I've found works", then you've got my attention. I see no evidence of any competition organisation from you, and nothing to suggest you run a business yourself, so while you're free to harp on about how bad the idea is, I'm still free to disagree.
A quick example of putting ones dollar in ones masticator. I run a commission painting business. I want people to use me. In order to get people to use me, I haven't derided the work of others, nor simply said "I am awesome, use me" - I have given people the opportunity to decide for themselves by calling the shots on some of the items in my portfolio, like a dry run comission. It gets people into what I'm doing, and lends me a bit of credibility when they see examples of how I would work for them.
Replace your inferred "if you can't make a better version, shut up" with a factual "If you can't make a better version, at least try. If you can't try, at least be constructive"
Naturally, it's your right to disagree with the above - you might find more support however if you weren't so vitriolic.
Constructive suggestion: make a contest that does not require your entrants to invalidate a $60 model to enter

$60!
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/355499.page
Done that simply because i wasnt in the right mind at the time.
and that was a damn site more expensive.
Kinda like using a £42 FW model as the base for my talos.
Not everything is about money.
Tons of people planned to convert them anyway, so if you are in that boat, the competition costs you a massive £/$0
I plan on grabbing 2 anyway, 1 for my daemons and 1 for my crons, so i might aswell just get them from here and have a chance of winning something.

Thats a good way to get the Chaos players in... just make it 'daemonic' hen they can use it as a DP or somesuch come gametime.
Some feedback for Slayer - the knees are too rigid, either this is the way the mini is or otherwise, it lacks dynamic pose and forward momentum... it actually looks to be tripping over and flailing its arms.

He has a right to make a contest that requires you to invalidate models, I have a right to say how a contest with less insane restrictions might gain more sales.
You have a right to wish everyone that thought differently than you would leave the site, everyone else has a right to stay anyway.
You have a right to call me a hater and insult me, I have a right to not care and to call you a hypocrite for screaming about how others are terrible for posting negatively while posting a terribly negative post.

Yeah the legs are like this and are a bit troublesome to place as you wish(the way they insert in the hip section).
When I first saw the model online I thought the legs looked pretty stiff, but when I got one, I found them easily cut & pasted. I cut (with shape clippers) just below the knee joints in order to bend the knees. I also cut one of those hip sections. It was easy to pin & green stuff because that joint is covered by the hip bit. I also broke the driver's legs like a wishbone in order to match up the pose with the larger legs.

Silly boys and their silly egos.
Please don't try to put words in my mouth. I never said you didn't have the *right* to post here. I merely said your reasons for "contributing" to the thread were wrong (an opinion, not a fact) and that you really should get on with your life. I reiterate that thought anew. I also never said that I wished everyone who thought differently than me would leave the site. That would just leave me here alone.
Yet another silly accusation in your continued arguing.
Being a "hater" is simply a term used to describe someone who is unsupporting and derogatoy towards the thing/idea/person in question. Bad news. You qualify. That is no more an insult than pointing out that you don't like the contest rules. Again, that was a poor attempt to drag me into another of your Dakka arguments.
Where did I use the word terrible? Oh. Wait. NOWHERE. More words from YOU, attempting to attirbute them to ME. You also seem to have confused the definitions of "negative" and "supportive." My post was supportive of the OP.
Let's talk negatively, though.
Are you aware of yoru reputation for being argumentative? Ever noticed that there are a LOT of people you argue with on here? The people you argue with often change, but there's one constant; You.
I suggest more introspection and less arguing.
I'm done arguing OT with you. If you want to argue, take it to PM. Don't address me here. I'll just report the post.

So, the triple-chaingun thing is awesomesauce epic, and actually is a good seg-way into my idea.
I am thinking of making a Tau conversion, but I want to do a multiple-barrel (4 or 5 or 6 maybe, depends on how many I get my hands on) railgun on the back of the model, and have the model down on all fours, and then have smaller secondary and tertiary weapons systems coming out of the shoulders and hips. The guy on the chest I may just bury in green stuff. I will have SMS and possibly TL plasma rifles in interesting places. I was going to make a very large drone be the new head, which would go where the back of the shoulders are now.
This will be my first large scale conversion project, and my first cross-race conversion as well. I have only done smaller (infantry and crisis suit) tau-tau conversions.
On a side but still related note, most people keep their hammerhead rail guns. Does anybody have some hammerhead rail guns that they will not miss? I can buy, but whether or not I even attempt this conversion depends on how many railguns I can get my blue skinned hands on....

blackfang, I'm loving your Ork work, so far.
Couldn't see it from work earlier, so had to wait until now to see it. SERIOUSLY cool. Are you planning to use it to 'count as" anything in particular? I'm thinking Mega Dred.
Slayer, I'm liking where you're going, too. I can't wait to see it with more work into it.
