Yes, they are getting moved to direct only.

And would we please pay attention to what mikhailia posted, because IIRC, in another thread he posted that GW would be doing the same to the meltal librarians, which is moving them to direct order.

Resin isn't cheap, actually. I don't know the cost compared to metal, though. The main point is that you can't mass produce resin or metal like polystyrene.

You can make very good detailed figures out of resin, as proved by Studio McVey.

I would be a bit worried about using resin for a lot of tabletop models because it is more brittle than metal. If it's only used for special pieces it should be all right.

Nothing is being discontinued. Read Mikhaila's post: things are just being moved to Direct Only.

I was thinking the same thing! He is one of the few models I've picked up without wanting to use, and just paint/display it.

Would be a real bitch if the termie chappy got dicontinued.

However, glad they are all only going DO, rather than for good.

Longer term if the rumoured switch to resin is correct, it might possibly be in this new fangled resin plastic stuff of which we have been told.

Can you blame them? The TTGN said "out-of-print", and a more recent follow-up comment said that his local GW said the list of discontinued models was far larger than the one TTGN published. And the word 'discontinued' was specifically used - not moved to Direct Only. It's great that we've got a store owner saying something that contradicts that, but right now we have no confirmation either way.

When the major German Retailer Battlefield Berlin emailed this to a Warseer member today, I decided that there might be more to this whole metal-to-resin rumours:

Just got note from GW that they will stop the production of metal products for at least 3 months. The Sales guys don`t know why, most items are already out of stock, so I guess they stopped productions already some weeks ago...

They said that it was not 1st April related, and those rumours started mid-March.

"Direct order", words I loath. Why can't stuff just be available to buy in shops rather than having to mail order it all. Is it just a ploy to make sure that no matter how many independent retailers there are, people are effectively forced to shop with GW just so they can have a few essentials like Chaplains? Sigh.

Could these just be referring to the 2/3 model blister packs? That would make a little sense since there are box sets of these models too, but the rest make zero sense though.

pretty sure those are the 5 model boxes.

Most likely either pulling to Direct Only or redoing the metal molds. Less likely is prepping a move to plastic.
