So there is one of those Chaos Dwarf (train/mortar?) models at Adepticon fully finished being sculpted and painted? Or am I misunderstanding this?

First a post on the Fantasy stuff with material by Valaraukar over at Warseer, confirming that the planned Chaos book series was abandonned with the departure of Rick:

I also spoke to some of the staff who mentioned that there would be more releases toward the end of April including the empire state troop conversion kits and that the book was now looking to be ready around June / July. This will now be a stand alone volume not a series sadly with a 2nd planned but unrelated book after this of Bretonnians vs. Tomb Kings with more planned beyond this that they can't talk about yet. I'm sure there was more if anyone has any specific questions I'll try to recall more.
(...)
That reminds me, Alan Bligh the author of the new Tamurkhan book mentioned that the Chaos Dwarves would have a special character Great Taurus in addition to the standard one and that these would now be constructs powered by bound fire demons. He also said there would a monstrous infantry incarnation of these so giant flame filled suits of animated armour!

Starfyre/Ironmonger: As mentioned above yes it appears these will be in the Tamurkhan book as for now this will be a stand alone volume. Ssadly it would appear rick's grand vision of a multi pronged invasion of the empire is gone which is a real shame IMO as it sounded awesome in scope and vision.

Alan Bligh seemed very enthused though about his reworking of the book and so I hold out hope that it will still be a great piece in it's own right, I get the feeling he was sad about the change of direction too although pleased that he gets to work on it. Gives me hope many of the creative types still around are a good bunch and it's just the whole evil corporate empire which is killing some of their creativity.

And finally some decent, unblurred pics by Slaaaaaanesh:

I heard someone (can't remember which studio person, but he was sat next to the Chaos Dwarfs, maybe it was Steve Whitehead) say that as far as an entire army of Chaos Dwarfs go, they're going to wait and see how they sell and base it on that, so from the interest in them I'm assuming they'll sell pretty well!

Also heard Darren Parrwood say that they are controlled by the main GW design studio as to what they can work on at Forge World, so they can only really do stuff that is already being done for the main line of GW. He then went on to say the entire FW studio wants to do Necrons, but they can't for a while, the Tomb Stalker was done as it currently "fits" with the line of Necrons produced by the main studio. I'm guessing that means the Necrons aren't due anytime in the immediate future then...

Overall the day was great, the queue for the sales stands was insane, when I got there at about 11:30 it was all the way around the room! The event only miniatures are lovely, but we were only allowed one of each, so those hoping to order them through Dakka members in attendance will no doubt be going without for now I'm afraid.

Gathering the Informations.

Mixed feelings on them abandoning Priestley's idea.

On the one hand, it sucks that the grand idea is discarded.

On the other hand...I always had a nagging feeling in my head that it might just have been too grand. Like Medusa, it might have ended up just too many things kind of 'crammed' in there.

Now an update on 40k stuff:

Vegeta365 wrote:IA11 is a good few months away unfortunately.

The rules for all of the eldar stuff has changed since the playtest rules and has changed again since the version they had on show. In particular the phantom titan is seeing large changes and they are still playtesting it! It will be more points that the copy they had there stated, much better guns, higher armour value and better holo fields. Alan was kind enough to tell me the rules he expects to be the final ones after I proved to him that I bought the first phantom Titan and said I can't play with it without rules lol. What a legend!

It will be a nice model to use with pros and cons in comparison to the warlord which is the same points cost so there comments were correct with regards to it's power!

Another example is the lynx which is seeing a huge point increase (only fair) the shadow spectres which will be both cheaper and better. Gun getting longer range too and squad size increase so you can have the 5 man squad and the exarch for example.

Hornets have changed and can now move and fire both guns which was it's biggest flaw. Can also become a flyer.

War walkers have been adressed too.

Too much to discuss at once!

Havarel wrote:Didn't get any pics, but they had a WIP salamanders dread (the dread special character from IA10). Think the MKIV ironclad as a base with new knee-pads and Iconography on the main torso. Currently known as 'Sooty'

Not sure if its been mentioned, but the models with the pre-heresy jumppacks also had PH-esque chainswords and pistols. The chainswords were a cross between the current CS and the CSM CSs (ie had the box shape of current SM, but the chain is visible about halfway down the back). Not a major difference, but clearly variant weapons. The pistols looked to be similar to the pistols in the commander upgrade pack.

Fraggle wrote:Ok as promised here’s my bit from the FW open day. Apologies in advance for the wall of text and if anyone else has covered bits….

IA11 –

Aiming to get it done for Gamesday UK.

SW – Redmaws company – models limited to characters - possibly two versions of Redmaw I’d guess as he turns into a wulfen on a total of less that 5 based on the roll of a D6 and his remaining wounds. May have some company shoulder pads etc but they haven’t started on the models yet. Some very nice new artwork in the book for SW.

Eldar – Aforementioned Phoenix Lord for shadow spectres. Probable rules for ‘special characters’ involved in the story but models unlikely. Some discussion about points and which FOC slot for spectres (HS or FA). Still thoughts about points and weapons etc for other units (as per previous posts)

Wraithseer – Looks even better unpainted in a non static pose. 0-1 choice. Buffing powers for other wraith units as per my previous posts.

Corsairs – List includes solitaire! (apparently its therefore unlikely to make the main codex when that gets redone). Can take a vortex grenade in Apoc. WS8. Sounds like it may be getting a model as well.

Corsair entries are all jetpack troops. Options for nobles and ‘support squad’ (which may all take flamers or meltas). Special and heavy weapons upgrade parts where there as WIP. The ‘insect wings’ look a lot better in person than they did on the photo.

Mentions of a gryninx (spelling?) cat upgrade as wargear for the cosair prince/captain and also a neural shredder.

Able to include DE warriors, venom and raider which is pretty cool.

Apoc templates – the avatar one sounds great. Designed for use with the FW avatar model as kind of a mega-tar. At the start of the game he gets 2D6 wounds. Can then fire his wailing doom using the big apoc pie template but loses D3 wounds on each shot.

Also a seer council of sorts and various FA style corsair formations.

Storyline for IA11 – SPOILERS

Spoiler:
Basically centres around a lost elder craftworld (of FWs making) search for the spectres phoenix lord to try and restart the aspect. Imperial forces not really aware of why they are being attacked. Campaign scenarios follow the search for the lord with the outcomes of the games determining if he is found.

Future IA books.

Dark Eldar are being worked on but it seems unlikely that they will be in IA12. By the sounds of it more likely 13. One possibility is that they will revisit the IA11 storyline with the DE trying to obtain the CWE tech that was discovered. Possible elder on elder action? Its all up in the air at the moment so is very subject to change. Most of staff seem to be involved with WH forge stuff.

Other releases – carcharodon transfer sheet and elder transfer sheet were there. The IG troop transport has a capacity of 25 I believe. Astral claws upgrades (shoulder pads etc) looked very good.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some bits. If there are any specific requests for info please ask!

reu666 wrote:There was some sweet stuff just some info from what I can remember:

- the phantom titan is being changed slighty from what we saw in the book at the open day. If it stays still the shield gives it a 5+ save if it moves normally it gets a 4+ save and if it turbos it's a 3+ save which i dont think is that efeective for such a big model.(same points as a warlord titan).

- Darren Parwood talked about the thought of a Big barge ship for the DE in light of the new Low density foam model they had on show. (obveously no definates he streesed that it was just ideas he was throwing out there)

- Theres deffinatley more Mk armour coming out i think Mk4 and Mk5 and jump packs (not sure what Mk they come under)

- The next Warhammer Forge book is bretonian Vs. Khemri (in case you didnt know), plans for more chaos swarf stuff as the sculpters sounded like they where gagging to do more models for them. they were alsready looking absolutly AMAZING.

Over all a really good day they never fail to please, the guys there were as enthusiastice as ever and really good help.

If i remember any more ill keep you posted.
(...)
i was speaking to darren and they made 3 mock ups; the first had 2 big guns which they decided wasnt how the dark eldar would fight so they scrapped that idea. 2nd mock up was a big platform raider but would of had to be tooooooo big so was too unconventional (also it looked like to raiders stuck together which he tried to avoid). the third he said was the comprimes between tham all.

DrLove42 from BoLS wrote:Now I'm home I'm just gonna regurgitate everything i remember....

Phantom Titan

WS 3, BS 4, 12/12/11 Init 2, Attacks 3

8 Structure Points

Don't expect it on sale till Gamesday (which is September here in Blighty).
Comes in at a hefty 2300 points. Features the Cobra cannon, the pulsar (which is 3 shots), the starcannon (3 shots instead of 2), which can be swapped for a pulse laser for free. Also has missile battery (S8 AP3 4 shots) and a AA mounted missile battery (S5 AP5 AA Mount). Usual 4+ invuln if it moved, but can chose to turn driver stunned into gunner stunned, so should only stop moving if it gets immobilised. Has the usual rules for fleeting titans as well, and weapons have a 12" minimum range. Only current other weapon is the sword seen previously. Will hasn't finished making it yet, but the sword comes with a 2nd twin linked starcannon built in. He also hasn't ruled out expanding the line of guns

The lady with the rule book (who i'm sure is an important person, i just don't know her name) said the reaction today towards the rules was mixed, so might be changing. (Personally I'm in the mind they are a little too expensive. 2000 points seems a better point...that fleeting instead of shooting rule is overated IMO)

As for magnetising and weapon swapping, the "torso" component comes with the body, the arm, the elbox joint and the hand. The "Gun" comes attatched to the forearm. So either can be magnetised at both ends, or drill through the arm and have a massive pin/rod from elbow to hand.

So those of you wondering this phantom, stood wide legged and stationairy is 24 inches exactly from bottom of base, to top of vanes

Warlock Titan

Will Hayes wants this. And it will happen. But probably not till the next FW Eldar book (his words) so means we get another Eldar book! it'll be the same size as a phantom, but more ornate, with more wraithbone extrusions. He joked about having the psycannon mounted on the side of the arm, so both hands were free for a giant spear

IA11

Few months off yet, still finalising the fluff at the beginning. Focuses on Eldar, with some guard and a tiny smidge of Wolves. All eldar models ever made have rules in it, so no need to carry multiple books.

Also the big one...not all models in the books will have models. I asked if there were rules for any models we hadn't seen yet ( a sneaky way of asking if there were more kits for us to see yet). The reply was "Yes, a few more. Also some will have rules that were aren't planning on producing" The Phoenix lord of the spectres was then gestured to. So maybe not getting a model yet?

Artwork is amazing. The pictures of the eldar squadrons stalking through the tundra, with the nights sky are simply astonishing

Shadow spectres get Phoenix Lord, didn't read the stats

Corsairs get Allied DE with craftworlds, and a few new unique units and HQ choices

Solitaire is one of those new HQ. Doesn't make quins troops, is a 0-1 no matter how big the army, not an IC and can carry a vortex grenade in Apoc for 75pts

Apoc data sheets, including one which is a 550pt Avatar, has 2D6 wounds, a 2+ armour save and his wailing doom is upgraded to a Strength D 10" template. However hes still a monstrous creature, not a gargant. He's important in the story as its the avatars last stand so he goes out in a literal blaze of glory. So at the end of the game he takes D6 wounds with no saves of any kind allowed

Phantom Titans rules are above

The Wraithseer is a HQ wraithlord, his physic powers include one which force an enemy unit to take a moral check at -1 or fall back immediatly. Another gives one wraithlord or wraithguard near him fleet (!). And the other, if a friendly wriath unit within 6" dies roll a D6. On a 6 its still alive, with one wound left. It also has a 4+ invulnerable

IA12

Dark Eldar

Initial Production and Evaluation on bits has begun. The model on show (with the double hull) is likely to be a light super heavy. I mentioned my theory that DE superheavies would look like Jabbas sail palace from Return of the Jedi he laughed and said they probably would...

Lots of concept art for DE skimmers, one of which was a super charged Ravager, that had 2 floors, each with 3 Dark Lances on both sides

Modular Boards

With the first Fw board expansion available (its very nice) someone said they were looking at expanding a lot more now they've got the technology down, with buildings, ammo dumps, train lines and trench systems forthcoming

Can't think of any more at present but if i remember anymore I'll add it!

Runnin up on ya.

I just had a nerdgasm over the chaos dwarf stuff and am really glad I didn't buy any mantic stuff.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Another update on Fantasy stuff:
Quetzl wrote:I talked to Mark Bedford about the Vermin Lord he said he basically sculpted it because he didn't want to use the old naff model in his Skaven army The model itself was pretty intense, it had a cool little anime-esque drawing of it and a mock up version too. The model was actually being sculpted around a skeleton, something I thought was really interesting!

The Turmakhan book was on display, sort of, in a rough form. A lot of illustrations were laid out to look at which were phenominal as well the book itself is going to be a right juicy tomb of information. The Chaos Dwarfs will primairliy be used as a contingent to add to your Warrior's army, however they seemed pretty sure that they'll be able to be used as a stand alone list, I'm not very good a reading and remembering rules, but most of the warmachines had two pages of rules/background/stats etc some of this stuff is going to be complicated to use. The Warsmiths also had a huge swathe of original rules and exciting nuggets, so get excited people!

On a final note, the Taurus had his nadgers all in place just like the reaper

Overal it was a really good show, I've got a few pics on my phone which aren't amazing quality. When I get a bit of time tomorrow I'll post them up.
(...)
It wasn't huge, the model itself was on a plynth which he plans to fill with a swarm of rats But I'd say it's on par in terms of size with a Minotaur, but he is extremerly dynamic to look at. On another note, there was a dragon which I'd seen before on here, which is soon to be released, but one of the sculptors is making a female Empire sorceress to ride it before its release - he was sculpting something else in front of my eyes too.

So Trish's dragon will be released soon!

I also really like the dark/raider eldar stuff and that Imperial Guard transport/mobile bunker looks great.

I think the rank and file chaos dwarves look good but almost a waste of forge resin detailing as they could be done in simple plastic and produced a lot cheaper as they seem quite 'plain'.

This is my thought, too- I wish we had more information on release date / price, because for pretty simple models it's a shame for them to be so expensive as to make fielding an army of them a pipe dream...

Does anyone know if there will be rules for these units in the Turmakhan book that keeps being mentioned? And when it will be released? It sounds like they're all going to hit in a wave, which is fine... I'd just like to know when it's coming in. CD as an add-on to existing chaos armies is interesting... since I have one. I'm much more tempted to use them as counts-as regular dwarves, though...
