With Meatshield how about when in combat wounds can only be plced on the orks as the enemy would concentrate on them, and for every Ork death d3 grots run away/get crushed under the dead Ork?

I would like to see an option for an all Grot army myself. Meat shield sounds awesome, but take a Grot HQ and toss out a couple of go karts with grots all over them for some fast attack. Maybe do kans as Eliete as well as Heavy. Bring back those grot piloted rockets. be a super squishy army but man it would be fun. be like getting rolled over by an army of green ants.

In the new Space Marine video game you get attacked by regular Orks that are armed with double-handed power weapons. Are these an existing unit already or could they be a hint of something to come?

No the only thing I can think of thats a 2 handed weapon is a BigChoppa, and only Nobz/bosses carry those. Regular boyz only get a choppa as far as CC weapons go.

And an all Grot army option really would be pretty neat. I think something they should do, as far as adding variety to the codex, is have SC (and obviously any counts as a player would use) bring changes to the army. So if there is a Gretchin SC maybe his changes would allow changes that are gretchin inspired, more kans on the field more big gunz, you know things like that.

I think really having SC that do army changes is the best/funnest way to bring about a radical change to an armies playability, think along the lines of what.......crap his name fell out of my head...The Salamader guy his are army wide changes, and I liked that idea. Something more then just "oh you took a boss? Then 1 unit of Nobz are troops". Well big deal. Thats not game changing.

Considering the "Rumours" of Flyers getting there own slot on the FOC in 6th ed I would like to think he might get some kind of awseome flying tranport. Like the Warcopta form Forgeworld or a Blimp. That would be awesome!

KilroyKiljoy wrote:Weirdboyz with even better psychic powers/an upgrade which lets you actually choose which one.

I always thought Orks got a little screwed where Psykers are concerned. You take a SM Librarium and get to pick two powers, Orks get to roll on a big random table not cool. I get that Orks are supposed to be random but its hard to make a gameplan with Weirdboyz. I expect them to get abit of an upgrade when you consider how prevalent Psykers are at the minute?

A blimp would be cool but doesn't really fit into the whole theme of the 40k orks. This isn't Warcraft. Bringing the chinork from IA:8 would work well, though.

I.....I dont know what Warcraft is. I think Orks fill definatly get a flying transport next edition. I thought the Warcopta would be the obvious choice but would they make a model that would render the FW model obselete? Having said that, I guess you could put it into the codex without a model and then it would increase the sales of the Chinork? I said blimp purely for the fact that I saw an awesome conversion once.

I highly doubt these rumours of Flyers in the codexes. The apoc book flyers entry says

these represent aircraft that would be hard to represent on a normal board, with their enormous movemnet rate, but on the larger apocalypse bioards, are perfect.

More or less. I can't remember the exact wording.

So, like it says, how is a large thunderhwk or fighter-bomber with a MINIMUM move distance of 36" going to work on a 48" by 48" board. Think the stormraven is bad? Wait till the Tunderhawk drops onto you lines with a Str D, Large Blast weapon, 4 TL HBs, a number of LCs, and 6, str 8, ap3 ordinance missiles, all of which can be fired at different targets, and shielded by 3 SP.

Firstly thank you for all the positive feedback guys; I’m glad you appreciate the idea. I’m definitely going to try this idea out when I can and it’d be great if you could let me know if you manage to try it out yourselves too.

Secondly on the subject of whether or not it’s OP, I’d like to playtest it first, but I suspect it’s not; you can’t just count the points cost of the Grots, because they also take up a FoC slot. In essence for a green tide you have a choice between 6 normal squads or 3 very tough squads. And I’m sure everyone agrees that if you have to face 6 full squads of boys life gets a little interesting too!

If it does prove OP I have thought of a possible way to fix that, which is to make the grots subject to leadership checks as if they were an independent unit. If they fail the test they splinter off as an independent unit again and the boyz just keep going. I’d suggest you still get to take the test against the highest LD in the combined unit (i.e. the nob) and be allowed BP rerolls, etc.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I definitely think the Chinork would be a nice addition; is it a dedicated transport for Kommandos in IA:8?

Might also gel nicely with Stormboyz; have a special character that allows Stormboyz as troops and / or ordinary boyz to take a Chinork DT with deepstrike as a sort of orky version of drop-pod / alpha strike

Do you think they'll change the codex based on a slightly advanced narrative; e.g., rebel grots, savage orks, etc.?

I thought it was only if you took zagstruk with your stormboyz that you can deepstrike? otherwise they just start out on your table edge with everyone else.

They are Jump Infantry, so they can deep strike unless stated otherwise.

Not that you'd want to. The models take a lot of room and are top heavy (small bases, but lots of sticking out bits), so getting them to clump up properly is annoying, and frankly they are better off not sitting in a vindicator-round sized clump anyway..

I have a mob of the old metal oens for the rare occasions i want to deep strike them, as they clump up far better, even if they don't look half as good..

If you have problems with top heavy models, do what i do and superglue a penny to the underside of the bases. While someone may claim it gives a height benefit, the benefits is so small it is not even worth considering.

It is an increase of about 2mm. That really won't change much line of sight. If an opponent has a problem with my assault squad sgt having a 2pence piece on his base to stop him falling over, then I just tell hijm to clear off. he wouldn't have a problem if it was a large rock on the base, instead of a 2mm thick coin on the bottom.

yea... complaining about a penny washer or some other tihin metal on a base would be pretty impressivly dumb dumb... though there is a guy who i played who didn't liek the look of the coin on his minis so he would glue tiny bb's to the bottom... looked like a pain to do but i admit it looked clean

Before they started making every damn base a slotta bottom, we used to glue nickels under them. They fit up inside the base perfectly and weighted it down nicely. But now I dunno. Ive smushed up some lead wad cutters from a pellet gun and glued those in under the base. Works ok, but not nearly as good as the ol nickel.
