I just made a shield that shoots people.

It's fun as heck, but it's low low stability and the fact it doesn't have 100 physical reduction means I need another shield in my offhand.

Ah, the Moonlight BUtterfly sheild? Yeah, I love me some That.

Rather enjoying Quelaag's Scimitar, too; it deals more damage the more humanity you have.

I never have any humanity. Partially because I die a lot, and partially because I detest humanity.

But it is nice when you swing the sword and it suddenly catches on fire!

I keep getting whipped in this game pretty hard. I can't even kill some basic skeletons in The Firelink Shrine :(

You need a Divine Weapon to stop them getting back up without killing the Necromancers. There's usually a Necromancer about, and his presence keeps them ressurecting. It's annoying as the skeletons don't drop souls even when properly "killed".

Have fun in the Tomb of Giants...

Those aren't basic skeletons, actually. They're disproportionately powerful enemies for the beginning of the game, in part because you aren't supposed to go that direction until later. That said, you can suicide run through the graveyard in order to pick up some Binoculars, the Wing Spear, Zweihander Sword and a small Shield whose name escapes me at the moment. The way that you want to go is up the side of a mountain from Firelink, towards what looks like an aqueduct. Those undead/skeleton guys are actually geared towards starting level characters (but they can still cause a lot of damage if you let your guard down). Either way, don't ever feel bad about getting whipped in Dark Souls, that's the game's schtick.

I made it to the Gaping Dragon last night for the first time, and summarily got murderfied. A quick check of some strategy topics online reveal that I managed to do everything as wrong as possible on my first attempt. On the plus side, I've upped my Black Knight Sword to +4 (which, as far as I can tell, is the highest that I can until I get to Crystal Cave and find a new source of Twinkling Titanite).

That makes, a lot more sense. I just dropped down there after I grabbed the chests on top of the mountain. I kept trying to kill them, over and over. At least I didn't lose anything at this point in the game.

I did the same thing. At least you didn't go down to the New Londo Ruins. There are ghosts down there that you literally cannot deal damage to at the start of the game, which will kill you in one or two hits . If you are going to fight the Cemetery Skeletons, you're best bet is to get a weapon that does enough damage to crumple them, but leaves you with enough Stamina to keep swinging it at a decent interval. You can actually stun-lock those skeletons by crumpling them with a hit, and then crumpling them again before they can fully get back to their feet. Alternatively, Firebombs or Fireball/Soul Arrow would probably do the trick as well. Still, you get no Souls for destroying them, so it's not really worth worrying about unless you're trying to challenge yourself.

After maxing the Pyromancy Talisman, the damage of Miracles is just awful. The utility though... lovely. Extra heals, knocking enemies over en masse, free teleport to bonfire losing nothing... yeah.

I mostly want the Lightning bolts, to tell the truth.

Anyone need help killing the Capra Demon? The more people I help with killing bosses, the lower I need my faith to be to join the Covenent I need. It starts at 50, and every boss I help Defeat lowers it by 5 (So I need to help kill six bosses and I could join now without leveling up any more).

Also the method of summon signs is vastly different.

You put your sign down, it's allocated a specific group of people. You put it down again, it's allocated a new group.

If you're trying to get a friend to pick it up, it could take 3 minutes to 3 hours for the random thing to get them.

Loving the game so far. I initially struggled with the start of the Undead Burg and the Taurus Demon, but then got past it, got the Drake Sword off the dragon, proceeded to then murder everything with ease.
The bell gargoyle didn't last even a minute with help I got, burst down the Capra Demon, got down to the Depths and took out the Gaping Dragon by literally sitting back and letting allies just punish it.

Currently in Blighttown and the only thing I'm having an issue with is the swamp and the fact that i think I'm severely undergeared in terms of armour. I have literally done all of this in the startout gear and I don't think thats normal o.o.

I don't know if it was my items that gave me the edge or what, but whenever I summon someone to help the gear looks way better than mine in comparison. Anyone had a similar experience where the armour doesn't seem to match up to the quality of weapons your getting?

To be fair, you did the drake blade thing which gives you a weapon way beyond what you would normally have at that level, though by Blight Town you should get a new set of gear just for that place. Whilst you're still up in the air on the wooden shanty town thing, you should find a ninja suit with huge poison resist.

Then many players just know how and where to get good gear quickly and early. I was invaded at level 14 by someone who 2 shot my white phantom, and 3 shot me with a pair of lightning daggers.

Lightning daggers. And my white phantom had a drake blade, and I plenty of soul arrows and we pounded on him for a good 10 seconds and he was still at half health.

I'm really not sure whether I'm doing my character right. He's a wanderer with a +3 Knight Shield and +2 Uchigatana, leather armour or sometimes elite knight armour and a long bow without any ammo. High vitality, resistance and dexterity. I can kill all hollows in 1 hit, which is fun, but I keep getting murdered by the MB (for which I equip wanderer robes and remove my shield, then spam the roll button).

Ah. Well, I just threw fireballs at it and it went away.

Or fire arrowed it to death. That boss has some annoying magic attacks, the machinegun one is hard to dodge but does minimal damage. The 3 bolt one is less hard to dodge but does huge damage. Never let it connect with that unless you have a shield with some decent magic block. With that one you need to wait till the last moment to dodge, one of the bigger changes I've found is that enemies auto-correct their attacks/shots/magic mid cast/swing, so dodging a little bit early will doom you. Same goes for tracking magic missiles.

Thing is, I only took out the Butterfly after doing Blighttown and Quelaag, so I was quite levelled for it and had good ranged.

I don't have any ranged attacks. However I've found it effective to stay right in front of it and roll forwards in to the wall the second it finishes charging it's attack. The only problem is it's beam attack, which is much more difficult. I never use my shield though, as it doesn't seem to do much against any of it's attacks.

And how do you get to those other places? I've only cleared Firelink, Burg, and Parish (except the rhino thing).I've tried New Londo but those damn ghosts get me every time, and I haven't explored the graveyard much.

You should have a key in your inventory called the "Basement Key" that you found in the bit just behind the portcullis in the Undead Parish.

This opens the door opposite the Hellkite/Red Wyrven on the bridge. This leads to a ladder which takes you down to the Lower Burg. Remember to open the shortcut door hidden up some stairs before you enter the area and get ganged up on by undead dogs and assassins.

By the time I faced Sif I had greater combustion. I just danced between his legs and set fire to his nadgers. Poor Wolf.

Pretty much avoid the graveyard like the black plague until you have a very powerful faith based weapon since alot to all the skeletons in there can regenerate after death and give no souls (except the large guys which give 500 souls near firelink and 800 in the catacombs)

My cleric has beatin the Gargoyles, Capra Demon, Moonlight Butterfly, and Quelaag, STILL can't beat that damned Gaping Dragon...

Though I have decided to go Elementalist instead of Cleric; Lightning AND CHAOS LAVA BALLS!

Also, Despite it doing tons more damage, I find that Pyromancy is far too long to cast in pvp or such.

You need to have bought the Residence Key from the Male Undead Merchant in the upper burg.

I donno, both Miracles and Pyromancy spells have slow casting times, apart from a few key spells, like Combustion and the flamethrower spell in Pyromancy, and what I believe is "Emit Force", Force and Wrath of God in Miracles. I was summoned to a game on my Cleric by a guy under attack by a Pyroleric, who used both combustion and emit force to good effect, boxing this chap and his other phantom inside the Anor Londo Bonfire room in the main building.

I Wrath of God'd him through the wall and knocked him down, whereupon we all ran out and butchered him.

Which I wouldn't really advise until later in the game, as he is useful at the start.

Or until your about to go into NG+, as you can get 5 or so Humanities from each NPC, and they respawn in NG+ even if they die in your normal game.

Having a thought here; Pikes have large, sweeping arcs, and the Fog Ring makes it where you can't target people in PVP..... I wonder if investing in a Pike build would be worth my while if I want to PVP....
