Apparently Ring of Fog users ruin pvp in Dark Souls.

I haven't seen a single Ring of Fog user.

I've heard the same, but I have been hearing horror stories about Modders too....

Still, you can ban Modders, you can't ban Fog Ring users...... Would be nice to be able to counter them, no?

Now I'm stuck facing the boss in the Watchtower Basement. The one with the shield and instant-death hammer.

He's entirely optional and isn't a boss.

He's -really- easy as a magic user, just dodge strike, heavy soul arrow, dodge strike, heavy soul arrow. As you play melee well.. you need to be really careful is all. Don't bother using a shield, I'm almost certain he can one shot you through it.

He drops a ring which gives around +25 to your equipment, which is nice.

WRATH OF GOD

Yeah, I've never fought one so I wouldn't really know. Wrath of God gets around the old "AoE spells take time to cast so the guy can get away easily" (which Firestorm still suffers from) by being insanely quick, so I assume it would help somewhat. Wide swinging weapons help a lot too.

Just remember if any of you are really liking this game, pick you up a PS3 cheap and play Demon's Souls. It got a server extension (the third one so far) till some time in 2012. The game is $19.99 right now as well.

This game has absorbed my life... if it wasnt for my weeks vacation last week to Cali I'd still be consumed. That week off was like cold turkey but the game is still taunting me...

I'm a level 80~ warrior, right now using either the halberd, que's (demon spider) flaming sword, or the lightning spear.

Damn this game is amazing though. I got "killed' by sheath and I'm at that save point now.

Ah good old Havald The Rock, i usually take him down no problems with melee (and he has not one hit me so far) best way is to backstab the everliving heck out of him.

On an unrelated note, going to apologize if i necroed this thread. Newest problem is Ceaseless Onslaught in the chaos pits or whatever that lava-ey area is called after Queylaag.

Any one else use the black knights halberd yet? if not it is a bloody beast of a weapon, i have managed to do around 700 points of damage to many enemies (while two handing it, seams to do a happy 240 to 400ish damage normally once you get it to about +3)

Cease is actually pretty easy when you figure him out, you have to wait until he starts moving and then run into the whole to the right. His arm can't reach you all the way back there, but you can easily hack it to peices when he swings at you.

Man i dont know how but i messed up my main char big time, made a 2nd medium amour build and got a black knight halberd up to +5 and DESTROYED cease in a minute flat. I have no idea how i had difficulties with him before lol

I don't think that there could have been a better successor to Demon Souls. My one big issue with it is that the melee is so much less roll-spam that I haven't finished a playthrough because there are just too many options. I loved running the Meat cleaver in Demon Souls and just rolling and destroying everything.

TBH, I think that Dark Souls is almost easier than Demon Souls.

I feel Dark Souls used to be a lot harder than Demon Souls, but they've patched it up and it's now feeling... easier yes.

I also remember when I got it on release on played it for two weeks straight that I only got invaded twice in two weeks. Started playing again two days ago and I get invaded constantly.

I hear you there, i remember killing that Moonlight Butterfly boss on release and it gave me 1200 souls, killed it again on a new char and it gave 10k souls, a homeward bone and a humanity after the patch. But damn was it about time they added the required souls to lvl up, was so annoying trying to guess how much i needed

I find the opposite, actually; the game basically forces you to be a Sword and Board, in my eyes...

I'm experiencing a game-ruining glitch, where every time I play the game, no matter how far I get, when I return and continue I'm still in exactly the same place, having just been killed in the tower at the end of the Undead Burg that leads down in to Darkroot Basin.

Yeah, it does seem easier since the patch, but the benefit of that is that the game is more balanced, and the MP actually works now. Plus I can now level up by beating bosses instead of just farming souls in the forest covenant area.

Slarg232 wrote:I find the opposite, actually; the game basically forces you to be a Sword and Board, in my eyes...

Well, I guess that's true. Roll spamming has been nerfed greatly. I always found in Demon Souls that shields did help a little, but almost every single attack could be avoided by rolling, so shields were useless.

The game isn't really that much easier since the patch, it's that people who played before the patch are used to the game. It's like what happened to me, my first playthough took 60ish hours from start to finish. 2nd (also prepatch) took 40ish. I knew encounters, knew zones, knew how to fight. So, just starting a new character after the patch and going "this is easier now!" does not necessarily equate the two.

As for forcing Sword and Board? Not at all. Sword and board is the EASIEST to pick up and play, but not necessarily the most damaging. Although, I've started a caster playthough (approximately level 30 with more than 30 int, and starting sorc abilities in str, dex, etc.) and it's a lot of fun.

Hangin' with Gork & Mork

Just picked it up and have a few questions, and since the manual has no information hopefully someone here can help.

How does I fireball? I picked Pyromancer and it shows 8 fireballs but I cannot use them. There is a bonfire where I try to attune, but I still can't equip fireball.

That first boss , am I missing something or am I supposed to only do 1% of it's life a hit while it does 33% or more in any attack? I know it is supposed to be hard but I didn't know the first thing in the game was a boss. If that is what it is, that is fine, just making sure I wasn't supposed to find some other path or weapon besides the hilt of t dagger you start with.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I'm going to spoiler tag it, because the first boss is a little difficult... but at the same time I don't want to just give it away. I'm just going to say, don't stand up fight him.

Spoiler:
There's a door that opens in the back left corner (from entrance by the bonfire) just run through to that. However, if you DO beat him in this first encounter, you get his hammer (it requires 50 str to use)

As for the fireball, you get the rest of your starting equipment later in the game (just past the Asylum Demon) including the pyromancy flame that is required to cast pyromancies.

I just completed it for the first time after a long period of not playing (many, many hours on multiple characters, but only just done Seath and Bed now on my Sorcerer).

The final battle was beautiful.

To use pyromancy, you gotta equip a flame glove (forgot the name) and you get it by running through the door to the left of the boss.

And I still haven't beaten it yet.... Got about 60 hours split across multiple characters, but I haven't actually gotten much farther than the Lordvessel.

Out of all the area's I've played, though, I liked the Painted World of Ariamas the best. Killing that invisible chick was fun.

I liked Painted World mainly because it had snow.

I like virtual snow. The real stuff sucks.

It was also awesome to see this games version of Phalanx, and also I got a whip there which now I'm in NG+, I'm making into a +5 Lightning whip for my caster. At the moment though I'm rocking as a Channeler (the six eye helmet sorcerers) using the Demon Catalyst. I have the Logan Catalyst, which makes my spells hit a bit harder than the demon, but the Demon one hits people for around 400+ fire damage in melee.

I also try to use the Dark Hand as a shield as thematically I dislike having a sorcerer with a shield, but it's stability of 30 just makes it terrible. I could even live with the small physical damage, but the stability? Terrible.

I also have the Channelers staff for group play... I love that dance.

Yep, I could actually summon/be summoned after the patch. Only problem I have is that it still takes a while for it to happen... But I suspect that I am either too high a level for that area, or am to low a level.

Sort of. You see more summon signs and, presumably, yours shows up in more worlds. However, a lot of people are reporting connection issues and failed summons. However, I've noticed a net increase in being summoned and successfully being able to summon people.

I've noticed a great deal more invasions/summons, but mainly because I'm spending most of my time in human form now. When I first played it was mainly Hollow.

Also...

HA! that's an awesome pic right there Mr Dwhitey.
So does anyone know if they patched the bride wyvern glitch death? the one where you go up the dark knights tower and shoot the dragon in the back of its dome? Tried it after the patch and the bugger still fell through the bridge, did the roar that generaly signals your getting the 10k in souls but he did not die........ i want my damn lightning spear miracle, dragon

I think they did, but not 100% on that. They did change the speed at which it breathes and when it comes down on the bridge though, so you can pretty easily run past it.

Spoiler:
Go up the stairs from the bonfire in Undead Berg and around to the wall next to the stairs (kind of "behind" the stairs is the best way I can put it). The wyvern can't hit you with it's breath while you are standing there and after a few attempts will come down to the bridge (you could also shoot it once with a bow). When it does, just run past it and into the sunlight alter, hit the bonfire... hooray! Just don't forget to open the gate there while you're inside.
