So 2 battleforces would be a good buy? I need more of the suits =[ and is it legal to use the HQ forgeworld suit as the HQ choice if I went to a tourney with him? You think it's worth it to get another hammer head or 4-5 broadsides? I can use firewarriors as pathfinders?! that's awesome!
What about the kroot hounds? Are they worth taking? And also I saw the giant kroot monster thing and the guys riding the big angry dinosaurs are either of those legal?
So I guess overall what do you guys feel is the best bang for my buck right now with what I have overall?
p.s. what does pinning mean (I know it means using metal to stick something to the model but I've never seen it =/)

I personally would get another hammerhead (using the skyray kit)

To make fire warriors into pathfinders (in the laziest way) is:
1 - Don't put on the shoulder pads.
2 - Give them Carbines.
3 - Put something on top of the carbines to make the 'markerlight'.

Generally, most things on Forgeworld are Imperial Armour / Apoc, so not legal rules wise eithout opponents permission beforehand.

But you can use the model to represent standard codex stuff.

Pinning is you use a pin to reinforce a join, generally you use the pinning drill to put a hole in each, put superglue on a bit of paperclip to hold them together.

I'd say 2 Battleforces are a good buy, but that's me

I would have 7 suits if I did that. I just bought another from ebay. You think a skyray would help a bit?
I would just be using the forgeworld to represent an HQ not using them as the suits since that doesn't seem to be legal =[
what's the non lazy way :3
I think I may order one of the forgeworld suits today =D (if I can just sub him in for a normal suit I'm hoping =[
2 battleforces would give me like...40 of the firewarriors AND kroot but not give me more than 2 suits and no broadsides or hammer heads =[

Lets put it this way.

You have the Devilfish, Hammerhead and Skyray kits and the Hammerhead Weapons Sprue.
(all in GBP, because I cba translating into USD)
1: Devilfish APC This includes the Standard Tau Tank Chasis, and 2 Gun Drones for £20.50.
2: Hammerhead Gunship This includes the Standard Tau Tank Chasis, and the Hammerhead Weapons Sprue for £31.00.
3: Skyray Missile Defence Gunship This includes the Standard Tau Tank Chasis, the Hammerhead Weapons Sprue and the Sky Ray Missile Turret sprue for £31.00.
4: Hammerhead Weapons Sprue This includes the Hammerhead Weapons Sprue for £8.20.
So basically.. you can buy the Devilfish for £20.50, the Hammerhead for £28.70, The Hammerhead for £31, or The Skyray (which includes the Devilfish, Hammerhead and Skyray) for £31. Whatever that's about.

The bonus of getting the 2 battleforces, is you're basically getting the stealth suits for free, you can always turn one of the Devilfish into a Hammerhead with the hammerhead weapons sprue, and you can convert up the pathfinders, if you're bubblewrapping kroot you'll have plenty, though if you don't want the stealths or kroot, then the battleforces aren't that worth getting.

Using it to represent the HQ is perfectly fine.

So I could use it as an HQ just not "use" it if that makes sense lol
I only need like 10 kroot and MAYBE 10 fire warriors. I know I need more broadsides and I could buy a hammerhead =) the biggest thing are those freakin suits and the broadsides =[

I often run 1 Hammerhead + 6 Broadsides, the pie plate option can come in handy. My 9 Broadside list is my favorite list, but Broadsides are my favorite unit so....

Just remember that shooting solid slug with your Hammerhead is super inefficient.

Don't turn your nose up at the Ion Cannon either. It's cheap, and great at killing Blood Angels.

GAH! I want the rest of this army so bad lol! I
I want the whole list >< I'm working on buying the forgeworld suit atm. I think some of the stuff I bought should be here today =) but I need like 5-6 suits 1-2 hammerheads 10 kroot and firewarriors would make me happy another box of firewarriors might just do the whole trick, like orion said I would be able to convert them =) at this stage I would like 3 more devilfish just for the funzeez. =D I would only need 4 more broadsides to run that list though.
What point list do you find yourself doing the best in?
Which unit is the ion cannon on?

Hammerhead takes the Ion Cannon.

To be honest, to max out every item in the codex you only need...
Aun'va, Farsight, Shadowsun, 1 Ethereal, 15 Crisis Suits, 18 Stealth Suits, 84 Fire Warriors, 100 Kroot, 100 Kroot Hounds, 5 Krootox, 24 Pathfinders, 15-30 Vespid, 24 Gun Drones, 15 Pirahna, 9 Devilfish, 3 Hammerhead/Skyrays, 9 Broadsides and 9 Sniper drones with handlers.

And around 104 assorted shield/gun drones.

O.o what do you mean by "max out"
That sounds like a god awful amount of guns O.o
with the package I bought it comes with a "sniper team" could the guy have meant path finders? and I only have like 5 crisis suits =/

By max out I mean enough models you could make every possible list in the codex.

And a sniper team is 3 sniper drones and a spotter.

hmm, I think I'm going to order two more suits in just a second, and maybe get the forgeworld one for funzeez =D as long as I can proxy it for a normal HQ choice because I love the look of the model...and I hate to repeat the question but I proxy'd in HQ like that is tourney legal?
I'm going to my gamestore a little later tonight in hopes of findhing the drill and I know he doesn't sell magents =/

All in all you feel like buying another hammer head would benefit me more than an extra 3 broadsides?

The forgeworld model as countas will quite possibly not be tourney legal, but you'll need to ask the TO of any given tourney to be sure.

Personally I favour 2 hammerheads, but ultimately the 1 or 2 hammerhead / 2, 3, 4 or 6 broadsides thing is personal preference

What does your list look like ovi? What I have so far is that a decent start at least? What would you do with it? Do you mind putting your list up?

Currently I'm running a shas'el deathrain with flamer, with a standard crisis deathrain, 2 squads of 2 fireknives, 2 squads of 6 fire warriors, 2 squads of 8 pathfinders, 2 devilfish and a skyray at 1500pts.

Though I've actually won my first 3 games using it (ultramarines, blood angels and GKs) the skyray is doing alright, but I'm probably going to switch it to a devilfish or 3rd hammerhead and/or try sniper teams, until I get broadsides.

I'm working on getting 2-3 broadsides for my standard list, then another broadside and working towards an 84 fire warrior gunline, with 3 sniper drone teams for giggles.

As promised - pics on magnetless magnetising.
All clippy pins.

Battlesuits:

2 hole drilled into each arm at the equipment hardpoint.

4 holes at each hardpoint, in pairs to allow both the straight and angled inserts.

Weapons:

Trim off the 'pegs' that are used to attach it normally, and drill 2 holes, insert 2 pins (paperclip) and trim them to about 5mm long.

Hammerhead Turret:

Single hole in the mounting joint.

Hammerhead Weapons:

Drill a hole in the center of the railguns mounting hole, put in a pin and trim it so that it is flush with the railguns base.
The ion cannon needs slightly more work.
You need to drill the hole in a piece of sprue that you've cut to size to fit in the mounting hole in the cannon, then put some glue along the opposite edge of the sprue to the pin and glue that into the ion cannon so the pin is central, then trim the pin to be flush with the base of the cannon.

Slotted in:

You can now clip your suit options in nice and easy and the Hammerhead turret now has easily interchangable weapons, that you can even angle them at will as though hinged they were hinged.

It's reasonably simple, and cheaper than magnets.

Pinning the turret is insanely easy.

The real pain is removing, repairing and pinning suits you've bought from ebay, where the surfaces are mauled and it's semi-guesswork for the hardpoint pinning xD

Yep, that's gong to be alot of my problem is fixing those other suits. I'm going to have to buy the flamer and missile pod bits as well. Sigh, lots of work. Do you know the easiest way to strip paint and remove glue?

Missile pods are easy.
You get 4 in each skyray/hammerhead box.

And as for stripping:

Have you ever stripped anything? I need to buy another skyray I think I have 1 and 2 definitely wouldn't hurt my feelings. I need to get a list with points of what I'm going to build so when I get everything in over the next week I know what I need to order.

If it says it'll wreck plastics, it will, it it says it wont it shouldn't.

I'm in the UK, so while I have stripped paint, I used dettol, and while a little time consuming it worked well enough.

You really need to get the codex if you don't already - it's probably the most important thing to have xD

But at the 1500pt mark your probably looking at being able to fit 2 hammerheads, 2-3 broadsides, 6ish battlesuits, 6-12 fire warriors, and a few pathfinders (depending on what you're wanting)

hmmm that sounds about like what I have though I think I have 10 stuis now. the codex was with what I bought so it's on it's way atm. Do you know of any stores that sell dettol? I can buy it from amazon but if I can go to lowe's or home depot I will. I don't mind time consuming lol I just need to know when I put this stuff in there I'll be able to pull SOMETHING back out ><

I guess I'll worry about stripping paint another day. I need to get the pinning process started today. I'm going to buy the drill in just a moment.

What are you using for the pegs in the pinning process just paperclips?

Yeah, just paperclips.

And plastic / metal makes a difference when stripping as some stripping agents melt the plastic.

I believe you have something over there in america called Simply Green that most paint strippers seem to swear by.

And for the drill, again I actually reccomend getting the GW one ( isn't that wierd ) for its versatility and that it comes with 6 bits. (strangely enough it would have cost me the same for 2 pin drills, one 0.3-1.4mm and one 1.3 to 3mm, then the drill bits on top). I also like that there's bit storage in the base.

Ok, I have a question. I was looking around youtube earlier and found this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tp0X_0MzzY&feature=g-user-u&context=G2a56933UCGXQYbcTJ33aIwLiy8GkkoKhyyJm1KjFzmLFchhm8Vk0
Now, I see ALL of the forgeworld stuff and the normal GW models mixed in. Is this army legal to field in a tourney or is this sttictly friendly or apoc only?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
p.s. how do you distinguish between the different types of drones the shield and the marker light and what's the bulbous antennae that comes in the crisis suit box? It fits where the missile pod would.

the antennae that has the little sensor nodule at the bottom I think is the Drone Controller.

And to distiguish between drones.. well

Gun Drones have 2 Pulse Carbines, Shield Drones have nothing and Marker Drones have a Markerlight. (see Stealth Suits box for a Marker Drone)

Not really no.

I've personally not put any antenna on my models, drones, FW, etc, except for my Sniper Drones.
