Where do you get all the awesome artwork from?? Im guessing theyre blanche sketches?

The chainsword looks good but is a bit bulky, I really like his rapier one in the drawing. The laspistol doesn't do it for me, it seems a bit unbalanced with two large pistols on one side of the figure. Maybe a smaller pistol would work.

He looks really cool, the head makes it again - are the hair and ruffle sculpted by hand?

@Bruticus: If it'll be the sword, I'll make it a slim chainsaw rapier, like in the drawing. Or maybe it is going to be a power rapier, who knows

If you go slim sword or rapier, then use the sword.

The double pistol doesnt really flow imo.

Thanks Vitruvian XVII for your opinion and your praising words. To be frank, J.B. is really on a level of his own, unreachable. We mere mortals can only pitfully imitate what he's doing. But it warms my heart to hear that someone actually thinks that my style is very similar to his, so thank you, yet again...

It looks like I'll be putting a sword in Cassar's left hand. Power rapier it is, as chainsaw version looks a bit too crude in this case. He'll be handling a laspistol in his right hand.

So there we go. I'll post some more WIPs when I've done with the hands...

I agree with Bruticus concerning the sword. A Rapier of some kind would be fantastic. You know, maybe even a Rapier with some kind of Pistol integrated into its hilt? He seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't be above pulling of a dirty trick like that

Anyway, great job! I can hardly wait to see him finished!

Haha Sorry KrautScientist, I couldn't resist but to use that head! It was actually the ONLY face that I could approve for Cassar. it was the only one that was enough mean, lurky and dismissive.

those grunts look very interesting! i like them, and also for you =][= (which looks so cool) i think that if you could use some nice fancy laspistol in his left hand, and with Kal Jerico's saber on his belt

Absolutely magical characters! They are the perfect blend of fantasy and sci-fi (Blanche-ness?). But there's enough personal touch in the models (especially the Old Man) to make them incredibly unique. I cannot wait to see your next updates.

The face on your Inquisitor looks good. You're off to a fantastic start.

The sword is too chunky....perhaps a Striking Scorpion chainsword? Or Rogue Trader era eldar chainsword if my memory serves me correctly...was on a plastic sprue me thinks.

Another option could be the rapier from the baneblade commander.

Not a fan of the pommel on the pistol.

So if you can get the pistol in the same pose as the drawing I would try that. But If you cannot find a thinner chainsword then I suggest keeping the sword in his hand.

I also think that the shoulder pistol could do with lowering slightly.

Really exciting to see how he comes along.

That sword PDH posted would be a very nice fit in my opinion!

I just remembered three different options:

1.) The Grey Knights in power armour come with lots of Falchion-type swords. They look rather nice when used on an Inquisitor model (I used on on my Assassin conversion).

2.) The Cadian Command Squad has a nice and thin power sword that comes attached to a bionic arm. Ditch the arm, and you have a very nice sword (you can see the bit on my Magos Explorator).

3.) The WFB Empire Knights have a sword arm for their champion. The arm is heavily armoured, but the sword is pretty nice.

The one on the left is the Empire Knights sword, the one on the right is a GK falchion (they are available for left and right hands, although you would probably have to ditch the hand).

The one in the middle is yet another option: A sword from the plastic WFB Wight King

@PDH and KrautScientist: Thank you for recommending options for the sword guys. That Baneblade commander's sword is pretty much the kind I've been thinking of using. I'm pretty sure there's something similar in Cadian Command Group sprues...

If Cassar had carried a daemonic weapon, it'd definately be the Wight King's sword!

Oh yeah, I also ripped off the shoulder pistol, made the stem a bit shorter and re-glued it. Looks much, much better now. Thanks PDH for the hint! Sometimes you just become a bit blind for flaws like these when you refine your model too intensively. Good to have a community like this to point out your mistakes

It's on the guy with the standard. That's the only sword in the kit.

Ize - It's a pleasure to point out your mistakes! I wouldn't say mistakes - just things I know I'd kick myself over ,were it mine, after it had been finished.

I'd never tell you where you went wrong after it was undercoated though

Yes, one of the old Eldar chainswords would really fit, I think, be it an old Striking Scorpion one, or one from a weapon sprue. I actually think a chainsword fits the image better than a rapier, but perhaps that's because the original artwork has that splattered blood feel to it.

Another thing I just realised when looking at the modelling putty on his wrists: He definitely needs some lace cuffs

I realise this will be a bitch to do in GS. But who can do it, if not you, IzeColt?

I agree with PDH about the eldar chainsword, I was checking my bits for suitable swords:



From left to right: Kalamandras' sword, old chaos chainsword (if you filed the back straight), old metal space marine chainsword, Eldar chainsword and the basic Guard chainsword. Unfortunately I used my favourites on this guy - two Ragnar Blackmane chainswords. Karandras' is cool but probably too huge. I think the standard eldar one would look pretty cool though, it was the first one I thought of when I saw the illustration. You can have mine if that helps.

Just managed to apply the last pieces of greenstuff to Cassar this evening and thought to upload some shots before the sunrise - and believe me or not, it rises around 3 a.m. at this time of year in Finland



I'm pretty pleased by how I've been improving my greentuffin' skills lately. I was able to work out some very fine details this time, thanks to some of my new sculpting tools. The pin came in hand when I was doing the lace cuffs that KrautScientist lured me to do. They don't look like much at this stage, but after they get some paint and freehanding, I guess they'll look much more like lace cuffs...

Tomorrow it's time for some priming!
