Excellent work

"Suffering is Faith, Faith is Strength.

Generations have suffered with the same devotion that we can offer but once. Still, our Faith leads us through these dark times like a beacon. It will guide us to triumph over these abominations. Either by breaking them upon us like waves against a limitless, golden peak or by thrusting through them like the spear of the Immortal Emperor Himself." - Cannoness Aoife, Order of the desert rose #Yesallwomen

Wasn't me then, sorry. I've never been to GW Cambridge. You might have seen some of George Dellapina's work there (though he's not been there in years, so not if it was a PB thing).

Just about to start the oil washing on the legs. The hyrdaulics are all painted too, but don't get attached till final assembly after all the weathering, pigments and varnishes are done.

The base just by itself is amazing enough to get a Golden Demon.

The Titian is going to push this through the roof!

LOVE IT!

If there is a criticism as the work currently stands, all the solidiers are in action poses but the environment feels a little too pristine and does not reflect what their poses suggest.

For instance, the flamethrower is actually "Off". There are also no las rifle scorches... etc and blood from the dead nids I can see. You may have a masterplan in place so just some things to consider.

Did I mention I LOVE IT?

I have actually been toying with a clump-foliage based flame for the flamer, but to use it would mean heavy OSL on the base, which thanks to all those bricks would take an age. Scorch marks and a few other things will be done in the pigment stage. Still have lots of brass etch to add to the base, too. Got bored of it and decided to work on something else for a while. :-)

Just bought a new pot of tamiya clear red. Nid goop will be done too, but that needs to be last really, as the base will be getting a couple of coats of varnish on the way.

Thats looking really nice so far, it really is an amazing commission you have and I know you will do it justice

May I ask where you picked up the tamiya clear red from / if they have a website as I've been after some for a while.

Hobbycraft. All the local models shops in Nottingham stock Tamiya paints too. Check local model shops first.

Mostly, on my phone.

This really is magnificent - and the colour scheme is exactly what I did as a kid playing Epic 20-odd years ago. Every time I see you update I'm thrilled.
If I could make one comment it's that maybe - maybe - it's all a bit muted, and it would good to see a single moment of very strong colour, to pop nicely.

Very nicely done winderdyne. Nice detail on the gems, stripes and hood. Oh, and the gadget on his wrist... just noticed that.

Shame so little of him will be seen. When in the Titan's torso you only have a fairly tight top-down view of him. A lot of stuff is lost.

Wow, the priest looks fantastic. Simply gorgeous. It really is too bad that he'll be hidden. The hood is especially nice, the stripes too.

Everything is coming along really well

Heya Winterdyne,

Now that we know the techpriest is all shades of awesome, is it possible to magnetise, pin or base him so that he is removable from within the titan?

Seems a shame to keep him cooped up in there after your paint job.

Longtime Dakkanaut

It's difficult; the only place he can stand is on the access lift, which is a very thin part to try and put a magnet in. I may be able to put a high pin on it and have that go quite a way into the techpriest to secure him, but it'd be fiddly getting him in and out.

I'll have a look at it once I've got that section of the torso painted up.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This week I shall mostly be hating painting gold. There's a lot of blends to do on all the gold on the legs... Glad I'm only using one Aquila plate.

Mmmm. If this were cake I'd eat it all at once and love every moment of it.

By which of course I mean everything is looking great.

Would you care to share your recipe for your gold? It looks great.

I've just found a quick trick for the gold. It's nice.

VMC Bronze base. Heavy brown wash (here supplied by oils).
Highight with a mx of VMC Old Gold and VMA Gold (which is silver) at high spots. Really crude block highlight. Go about half way along the gradient.
Shade with a mix of VMC Black and VMC Bronze. Again, cover about half the gradient.
A long gradient should now be 3 blocks, about a third each of the shade, highlight and bronze.
Now make a glaze of the bronze and glaze it from the middle (bronze) section over the shade and highlight. That does for the gradient. Really need glaze medium for this; water doesn't carry the metal pigment well enough.
Edge highlight bottom ediges with the Old Gold / VMA Gold mix.
Edge highlight upper edges with pure VMA Gold.

Some drool from some of the Nids might drive home the sense of slaughter occuring on the ground. Tamiya and Woodland scenics make some good water effect products that may look good dripping from the mouths of a few of the bugs. Probably best saved for the pigment phase.
