I also agree. FW was always a seperate entity from GW, they might have been owned by the same people, but they were very distinct and seperate groups.
As much as I would've preferred it all being in the xeno book, all the content they would put for the orks alone originating from the FW book would mean a 3rd xeno book. Having an Imperial Armour about orks is much the same as a 3rd xeno book, or a very big ork codex to me.

Sure, but Nids is the malanthrope, a new type of spore mine, 2 heirodules, and a bio titan. Necrons get 2 maybe 3 characters, a vehicle, and some pylons.

How big of a book is that going to be?

I'm not so knowledgeable on the other Imperiaum Armour stuff. Orks, and Heretics and Renegades were quite meaty entries. I guess with those smaller entries, I think the best bet would be to petition for free online pdf versions. The ideal solution would be to merge it all into the codex within those situations, but of course that's not going to happen.

Well likely one book will have several aliens much like GW proper books have.

Yupp, currently Imperial Armour 11 (could be another one, but I think its 11) focuses on the Renegade and Heretics list. Basically evil IG, with a big chaos spin. GW has announce Forces of Chaos Imperial Armour FW book. Renegades and Heretics will probably be in that one. If its not, GW has announced that more will come.

Yes, it's ridiculous, but I'm glad that it didn't release and was invalidated 2 months later.
Also, it's been 12 months and 13 days, not 18 months.

None so far, I'm still waiting for my maelstrom's edge contractors and a lot of bits. 10 guards are 40 bucks where I'm at, with 80 bucks i can fully kit out 20 dudes, have 20 more partially incomplete, have a bunch of bits, and the end model would look a lot cooler than your average guardsmen.

GW book pricing level has gone back to sane ones it seems.

I hope this is true. So i only have to spent 45+20+20 € to get all the rules i need and the new background. But i will probably get the Tactical Objectives and Wound Trackers. Not sure about the Command Dice if those are really handy but it depends on the rules.

Forgeworld will do them. Traitor Knights are a GW army, if very poorly represented.

Under a pile of plastic and boxes.

This looks great, only bummer is that I have to buy all 5 index books due to the armies I have. Necrons being in with the Eldar armies and not the other xenos book is a bit of an odd choice to me.

I'm hoping these are around $30 in freedom dollars.

Prices in the UK could be even more competitive. My local store has said the RRP will be £95 at launch (on top of which they will apply their usual 20% discount) which is pretty good value considering what comes in the box.

Necrons being part of the Aeldari book is a head scratcher for sure. T'au or even Orks (who are technically cousins to Eldar) would have made a lot more sense.

I definitely got to get Xenos 1 and Chaos.
I am really glad all the Marines are in the same book. I'll be getting that one too, even though I don't play Marnies.

In fact, if these books end up being less than $30 US, I'll probably get all of them. Undoubtedly there is going to be a bundle with all 5 + main Rules. Hopefully for well under $200 US

Mixed bag for me, personally.

While I'm working on a Death Guard force for 2nd ed, I had hopes some of the new models would be good for part-bashing. The Death Guard are so incredibly, wildly over-the-top, I won't be using any of them. That's a shame as I was really quite excited about the prospect. I quite like the look of the Space Marine models even if the fluff behind them is a bit crap. The jump fellas look neat, minus the silly shielded bolters.

The books and selection - eh? If I ever do run my own Death Guard-esque force in 40K I'd need the Death Guard book ---- so I hope that's included in the actual Chaos index (though I imagine the indexes from extraneous starter boxes will be available on eBay).

I'm a bit meh on the large tome rulebook, as that's neat for fluff/reading/excitement, but crap for taking to game night - so I hope the "free" rules are printable and enough to cover gaming night use. The indexes seem neat, but I'd be pissed if proper faction books are launched in a month or two and you ended up wasting your money on the indexes.

The tactical objective cards aren't a good thing for me...I've actually played 7th a few times now (just to push models around) and really dislike the random drunken commander card-driven game play. That's incredibly weak sauce to me, and it looks like that'll probably be popular again with most folks.

So, at the moment - I'm okay with most of the stuff, but very let down by the Death Guard. It seems I can download the free rules, buy an Eldar index and be able to play right off the bat - which I hope is the case. Pick up the big rulebook later for fun.

I'm thinking picking up the boxset, parting out the contents for bitz sales, and keeping the accessories. The only models in there that I actually like are the plasma guns.

Also "Bloat Drone" is lolworthy.

Ynnari, a faction with a grand total of exactly three models, gets on the cover of one of the three books.

Adepta Sororitas does not.

Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Wasn't one of the big things people talking about for this edition that the units will be on war scrolls for free on the internet and not in books so they can be updated, and the books would just be for fluff? This is the exact opposite.

To be fair, Ynnari applies to 99% of CWE, 75% of DE and 100% of Harliequins. The only models from each of those that cannot be considered Ynnari is the Avatar of Khaine and Haemonculi Coven units.

But I do agree that it's odd to have the name on the cover whereas, Adeptus Sororitus is not on the Imperium 2 book.

I thought this was odd too. The mention that points costs will be updatable, yet the way to get those it to get the books as the free rules won't include points cost.
In any case, I am happy that the books are available (as I like having physical copies) and that they are all pretty cheap. I can finally have all the rules.....at least until supplements start coming out.

From what I can see the indexes are:
Imperium 1- space marines, blood angels, dark angels, space wolves, grey knights, deathwatch, legion of the damned
Imperium 2- Astra Militarum, Ad mech, Imperial knights, imperial agents, talons of the Emperor
Chaos- heretic astarties, chaos daemons, questor traitoris (I think)
Xenos 1- craftworlds, new dark eldar name, eldar with the Y name, harlequins, necrons
Xenos 2-orks, t'au, tyranids, gene cults

I'm getting all five.

Imperium 1: My main army is Space Marines, so I'll get this one.
Imperium 2: Wife plays Sisters of Battle, we both have some Talons of the Emperor, AND we each have a Knight.
Chaos: Chaos Space Marines are the funzors. I have a small faction. I'll need this book.
Xenos 1: Finally! I don't play any Eldar...Damn! Wife has Necrons. Grr...
Xenos 2: Orks. I lurve my small ork army.

feth it. I need all 5.

I think it will be just like AOS and the Grand order books. You can have the book or get the unit rules for free on GW's page.

No. The power levels will be free. That's useful for narrative and open gaming.

For matched play, with the more granular points that we're used to, you'll need the books.

your mind

The death guard models are terribly cool. If I had it in me to start another new army then this is where I would go for sure. I don't mind the drone at all. The hellblasters look like straight plasma but will likely be tricked out. In all see no reason to buy them. Non terrain is a bummer. Including the full book rather than a pocket sized edition is OK too... Looks to be a good deal. Shame I will need six new books tho.

Also, worth noting (I think) that the NuMarines are heading in the Sigmarine direction...of having squads of guys fully equipped with the same item? This makes building armies easier and essentially future-proofs squads of models, but I think this is a sad sign if we eventually (over the next five years) see the disappearance of mixed-weapons Tactical Squads etc. I think it works of the Eldar aspect warriors (and yes it makes army construction damn easy), but I think the piece-meal nature of a Space Marine Tactical Squad is something rather iconic. Hope that doesn't slowly fade.
