I actually really like the Xeno with the giant shotgun. The proportions make him look non-human to me if I was going to change him I'd change the arms not the legs as they're the bit which is out of scale. I'm not quite convinced by the prisoner model however it just dosn't look like an eldar, he just looks like a mutant/zombie to me. The background and concept are great but he needs something possibly pointy ears....

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

yeah I think it is the arms that do it, they are quite heroic scale while he is a bit skinnier. Unfortunately it's pretty tricky to find the right arms as they need to be long, but I will have a think. I did sculpt pointy ears on the xeno prisoner, but I think he will be cut from the crew anyway. If I was going to work him up a bit he would have a few more eldar items to better identify him, mostly I just liked the idea of painting a fancy eldar robe all torn and dirty.

That actually strikes me as a good look for a rogue trader character as well.

Had a good game of Necromunda the other day and I thought the table was looking pretty good, the Peach Trees hab was central. We played The Horde and my defenders were immediately in trouble when a vent team with a heavy bolter, heavy stubber and a BS6 leader took up position above them. The next few turns were spent desperately trying to avoid being caught in LOS. It turned into a deadly game of cat and also cat when my leader almost got into charge range of the enemy leader, both desperate to avoid being shot by the other (my leader has bs5, ws6 and an archeotech melta-pistol which is enough to scare the arse off even the toughest underhive scum).

Eventually my reinforcements showed up, including my rocket launcher heavy who found himself in a shooting position after a couple of turns. His track record over about 7 games is that he has taken 4 shots, hit once and misfired 3 times. This time he misfired again, taking himself out of action and gaining an old battle wound. However he also hit his target and took out two enemy gangers, forcing a bottle roll and winning me the game. Ideally he wouldn't blow himself up so often, but still - can't be too displeased.

Excellent stuff! It's been said a lot, but man I love your Necromunda terrain! And it seems the guard gang never have the luck in your campaigns, first his ogryn is drilled to death, now misfired missiles force his team to run, he really seems to have appalling luck!

So much detail.....whets my appetite and no mistake

Simply amazing board, I have a LOOONG way to go to get anywhere near as dense a terrain setup as this. Oh, and LOVE the moustachioed arbiter conversion. Very classy!

Usually we use an area 4x4, but it can be bigger if we need it.

Hmm not sure about that, the Ogryn was a pretty even fight and if anything, he is lucky my missile launcher heavy has not hit more often - missile launchers are pretty terrible in our games now as they can never get an LOS and rarely get a clear shot off. A basic heavy needs a 6 to hit someone in hard cover, which also fails the ammo roll (unless you can roll a second 6). He nearly always goes OOA after the first shot, but it's that or never take any shots. At least a miss can scatter onto targets which is the main advantage of a missile launcher, but it gives yet another chance to misfire. This shot I was amazed to see two guys in the open - this basically never happens in our games, I needed a 4 to hit, rolled 6 (ammo roll) - rolled a 1, explodes. In our earliest games when we had hardly any scenery, rocket launchers dominated - one guy could see the whole board and could usually get a shot in the open (or at least, open on overwatch). Entire gangs got taken out by one scattered frag missile. Nowadays I would rather have a couple of flamers or heavy stubbers.

I've said it before, but that damn board is absolutely beautiful! Multi-level, gritty... exactly what I imagined when I started Necro a decade+ ago, using the bulkheads/poster board scenery provided by the box sets...

And totally feel you on the Heavies- my Delaque heavy guy somehow survived while others grew up and died around him, probably because he almost never got the chance to let loose with his weapon. It was literally trying to "herd" enemies towards his position, or risk having him run the whole damn time and miss any opportunities/get gunned down like a tool.

Not sure if I've asked before, but was it all home-stuff you found? Or plasticard/bitz? Other scenery kits mixed? Combination thereof? Either way... I love it.

I've been trying to test some of the more unusual weapons/gear to see if anything needs changing in the NCE (missile launchers got a cost decrease which does help a bit). Heavies usually dominate a game if you can get them in a good position - even if they never fire a shot they can control areas of the board with overwatch etc. The most sacred thing in Necromunda is a heavy with a BS upgrade, it's such a huge difference even getting BS4, although BS is extremely powerful on anyone, probably too good by half - and the only way to counter it is with lots more scenery.

The scenery is mainly junk - old cassette trays, printer parts, toys etc. But there are plenty of scenery kits and bitz too, mostly from eBay - never bought any scenery kits new. I had loads of bulkheads/barrels/gubbins left from my teenage GW years but even when I quit GW for 8 years I would horde interesting looking parts.

I love these 2 photos the best, your 'spotlight' lighting really forces the scale and gives the scene a gritty realism. The elevated freeway bits with the concrete barriers are boss. I've always wanted to make some elevated roadway scenery...something like the Capitol Wasteland from Fallout 3...busted and crumbling with bits hanging off of exposed rebar, etc...truly inspirational.

How do you do your hazard striping? do you print and paste, or mask and spray? What is your rust/weathering technique? I airbrushed my current piece with a dark gray this weekend but I'm at a loss now as to how to weather it to make it look like rusting steel.

Keep up the awesome work!

Hazard stripes are all masked/airbrushed on the scenery. I paint yellow first then airbrush black over the top.

For rust, I have used loads of different methods. There are so many different types of rust and corrosion you need to figure out what you want. I have some scenery that is almost 100% rust, this is painted metal first and then pigments are washed over the top. For other bits I might start dark grey, drybrush metal or sponge metal in places, and use rust sparingly around rivets etc. Metal chips over dark grey look very good. I would say just find a tutorial online that has the look you want, and use that. Either that or just experiment, using rust pigments it is hard to go wrong. I would never, ever just paint on rust though - doesn't look natural compared to pigments.

I think that what I love most about your amazing terraitn is the overall ramshackle appearance. It really makes you see the "Underhive" for what it is: a patchwork shanty town that the dregs of society are making their homes in. Very comparable to places in the real world like India, Indonesia, and South American slums.

Hello everyone, Happy New Year and all that. I've not done a lot of hobbying over the holidays but I have just completed my entry to the shrubbery competition, here's my Necromunda algae pool:

And you can see the rest of the pics either in my gallery or over in the competition thread here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/150/487271.page

Apart from this I haven't done much, but I did get the Spartacus boardgame for Christmas and had a 4-player game of that, using my Pitslaves as proxies for the gladiators - seeing as they are based on Spartacus characters anyway. The boardgame is incredibily fun, full of treachery, backstabbing and a surprisingly solid combat system.

Some more work on my Inq28 warband. I finally bit the bullet and bought a tube maker which I still maintain is a rip off for some squares of plastic, (especially with £8 shipping!) but cables going everywhere is really so essential for Admech.

Still a bit of work to do on his robes - I am beginning to hate robes - but otherwise he is nearly ready I think. I love how the eye lenses kinda make him look short sighted, like he is really peering at this head he is about to drill. He has converted his body into a mobile operating table. Such a cute little fellow.

Thanks to PDH for sending me the drill bit erm, bit. Lots of new cables and some detail work but otherwise not much else added. I had originally wanted to add all sorts of equipment on his back - cooking gear, bed rolls etc - but it looked a bit cluttered. I think he looks like he is basically a walking generator now and people can just plug their iPhones into him when they need to charge.

By the way if anyone would like to win one of my models (possibly a custom job) then enter the terrain making competition here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/499362.page

£8 shiping!? Puts me off ordering one. I really liek the little dude based on the C.A.T. but that brute with the ccws is awesome!! I think you're right in not wanting to add anymore to him as it would look a little too cluttered.

Ah you got the tube tool! I still think you can probably get the same result for cheaper by buying some ridged plasticard and cutting it into squares but... it looks like you got the good one and it's rather convenient, you might find yourself doing a lot more admech stuff now

Be sure to experiment with it and try rubbing different sizes together, rubbing only one side against a flat surface, and rubbing two but in opposite directions all give you different results.

Anyway the big servitor is looking a lot better with that bulk on him.
