Hi Dakka,

So I decided to hope straight back on the wagon and get knee deep in another diorama. This one is pretty small, so I was able to finish in 17 days.

Unlike my previous dio, "I am two bullets" I wanted this one to concentrate on the figures more heavily. Particularly in my skills of painting them. Some of the feedback from the "I am two bullets" was that the figures didn't have a sharp enough paintjob, so I tried my hand at improving that. I've still a long way to go but I think this is an improvement.

Hope you enjoy. As always, more can be found here: https://keepitrusty.com

Glad you liked it. I wanted to focus on figure painting but dioramas just take a hold of me. I quickly realised I just can't paint/model a single figure on it's own. It's needs a vignette! Thanks for your comments!

Wow, thanks Trondheim. "Works of art" - I'm genuinely flattered, Sir.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

The dioramas are great, I really like that they are really a cut out section of the area, in both this and the last. Would love to see you go full p&m blog mode with the wip's and whatnot.

Have you checked out Klaus, not santa's blog? He does larger scratch builds he turns into dioramas. Might find some inspiration there.

The cut-outs or "through-frames" as I call them do make for a more striking presentation. I don't think I could make another diorama without one. My site (http://rusty-robot.co.uk) does have WIP pictures that you;d expect from a P&M blog here on Dakka. I just host it off-site as it were Also, I love his stuff. Very inspiring!

Over the years I've spent admiring dioramas, before I tried my hand at making one myself, one thing became apparent: so many had this feeling of the models posing for a photograph. It's been a conscious effort to steer away from that and make it more of a snippet in time. I'm glad it's working - so thanks for your comments guys!

Truly encouraging words here, Boba. Each diorama demands a lot of effort, even when photographing them to ensure they tell the right story I want. That feeling when I'm done though and the fact it is recieved as it has with people like you make it all worth it. Thanks for taking the time to write this. It goes such a long way.

This is great! As per my OP, this was all about the paintjob on the models, so I'm over the moon you like the soldier! I really wanted to portray a story in his dishevelment. In my mind, he hasn't slept for days since being separated from his unit. Stumbling into this compound could be the end...

Thousand Nuns wrote:Lovely diorama, how did you do the dog mini is it a conversion or an actual model?

Thank you! The dog is actually a Forgeworld model. It was the 40K Open Day special from 2012. The Enforcer and Mastiff.
