This weekend, my bookshelf gave way under the strain of all of my gaming books. It was a sad day as I had to dig through a substantial pile of books. However, as I looked through all the old books it brought back a flood of memories. It made me wonder which of the games I have played over the years had provided me the "most" enjoyment.
I define the most as:
1. Long serving
2. Most games played
3. Best memories
Here was my list.
The Winner: Necromunda
We had a couple year long running campaign with a number of players. Gangs came and went from all different Houses. The group introduced a number of new people to miniature games with Necromunda. All of the details of our games were housed in a beat-up old notebook referred to affectionately as the Archive Record Viewer. I can still trace the growth of the Blood Jyhad, Cowboys from Hell, and others as they battled for control of the domes known as Fungal Lake.
Runners-Up:
Aeronautica Imperialis
Tomorrow's War/Force-on-Force
West Winds Star Wars RPG
Shadowrun RPG
Ones I had forgotten I owned:
Void
Dirtside II
Warmachine 1st Edition

I like Necromunda too, but since GW isn't doesn't support it anymore it can't be as good as it could be.

Over the years 40k GW aside. Confrontation 3.5 is also fondly remembered and sadly missed.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

40k has to be the favourite for me, but I also got many years of fun out of LOTR (both the SBG and the War of the Ring) as that was my first game and my only one from a long time.

Many years of fun playing Star Wars RPG (D6 by WEG). We're playing Star Wars Edge of the Empire nowadays.
Most plays would be Star Wars RPG followed by Star Wars miniatures (the WOTC CMG).
Current favourite is 40K.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

In terms of time, and when I was 14; 40K hands down. Played it weekly for years.
Now, when I'm 30, That crown has been pretty much taken by Malifaux; a game that is pretty challenging but still wacky, and without much repetition. Flames Of War as a runner up for the serious gaming.

Top would be 40k. A second would be WHFB. I played it longer in terms of years but not in terms of number of games.

As you've defined it, it's 40k for me. Though I'd have to say I've had way more fun with Necromunda over the years.
I'd love to get another Necromunda campaign started. The Murdatown Rydaz will Ryde again.

40k, it literally kept my family together for a few years as well as was the bridge we used to mend the broken chains.
Also I have been playing it on and off since I was 10. Each edition has its problems(stopped for most of 4th and 5th) but I enjoy it dearly.
Combined with the background(gaunts ghosts FTW) it has brought me more joy than most things.
However my dad recently turned 50, and so was naturally inducted into the flames of war circle. Just seems like something that happens to old wargamers. I think if he gets into historicals it might be time to put him down.

I used to play a lot of Palladium and Rifts. Rifts was freaking awesome.
Used to play as Glitter Boys and use the cannon without deploying spikes, ride the recoil for like 300 klicks. Played lots of Juicers, none of them lasted very long, haha!
I had one epic campaign where I played a Human Merc, we started in Palladium and I ended up stealing a ton of loot from this temple of some God of Truth. When I got caught I lied about it (bad wis roll on creation) and my punishment was to travel to a "strange and wonderous land" and fight against tyranny there for my redemption. So we got plopped into Rifts Earth, right in Federation territory, with enchanted iron weapons vs mega damage invisible lasers and DeeBees the size of small cities. Needless to say we got ourselves equipped to suit the environs and went ahead with the quest. We all died in a fiery explosion fighting some kind of living mountain in a gladiator pit, trying to raise money to turn the group Wizard into a mechanical serpent. I kind of worded my attack plan wrong and instead of jumping out of my damaged mech and hitting a detonator I hit the detonator and THEN leapt. Big difference. Killed several 2 year old characters in one blast. Thankfully our plight was not unnoticed by the Gods of Palladium and we were magically revived back in Palladium, though 75 years had passed.
Then we all got out of high school and it was very sad...

1 and 2 are 40k, simply due to playing it for two decades.
3 is Infinity. Every game has moments that make ustake pause and just admire what happened. Whether a simple Muyib making a long range headshot against someone in camo and cover or an invisible ninja sneaking up to a sniper and bisecting it, the games are full of awesome moments.

The one that gave me the most enjoyment over the years has certainly been WHFB, it was the one that originally brought me to the miniature wargaming hobby and the one where I have the most games played over the years.
Ever since WHFB 8th edition was released and WMH Mk2 was launched, WMH has been gaining ground on WHFB in terms of pure enjoyment of the game. Mk 2 got rid of most of the shenanigans of the game that, while fun to pull of, would sometimes leave me with the feeling that the game was more about puling of combos than actually using tactics, and it helped turn WMH into a really fantastic game!

We play this game at parties that my partner made up to explain how RPGs work. It's called "So, you're in a desert". It's basically just a storytelling RPG for people who have never RP'd before.
Other than that, D&D has provided more hours of fun for me than almost any other game. I think I actually logged more hours in 4th than any other edition, and it was almost entirely because I had an awesome group for it.

WHFB and M:tG have given me the most enjoyment over the years, but they've both been replaced by better things. Warhammer has been replaced by xwing, KoW, DZ and I suspect soon WM. Magic was replaced by W: Invasion and Deckbuilders: Legendary, Ascension, Star Realms, etc.

My favorite by far has been Lord of the rings but it is really hard to decide between LOTR, mordheim, and WHFB. WHFB was the first minatures game i ever played so it comes with great memories and what not but i gotten the most out of playing mordheim campaigns or huge LOTR scenerio battles

I would say Dungeons and Dragons third edition (including 3.5 and Pathfinder).
Dozens of campaigns, 12 years playing RPGs, still find it enjoyable, still doing new things with it.
40K is probably in top place for wargames, closely followed by WFB, and then LOTR and Warmachine/Hordes tied in third.

^ Basically this plus vampires. I played a lot of games I've enjoyed over the years, but the best stories come from Rifts because they are so over the top.
I played a year into college, but then we moved on to other games because they had better rules.

Song of Blades and Heroes.
For several reasons, even beyond the fact that it's extremely well written and engaging, yet not complicated.
-It was the game that my gaming club formed around 4 years ago, and we still game nearly every other week.
-It's by far the game that I've played the most times in my life and I'm still not tired of it.
-I never feel like the game is ripping me off. The expansions are quality and affordable and when the ruleset or an expansion gets a new version it gets sent for free to all who have bought the pdf.
-It never limits me. Any miniatures that catch my fancy, I can paint up and use in a game.
-Each summer we have a SBH campaign and it;s always something I look forward to.
Runners up.
-Mech Attack: Whether in 10mm (rebased mechwarrior clix) or in 28mm with giant stumpy robot models, these rules have given me an emense amount of enjoyment over the years. It's the game I always wanted Battletech to be.
-40k. I don't really play now, and even when I was playing, it was only a few times a year. However, I can't deny the amount of pleasure I have gotten from reading about the 40k universe, painting and collecting models.

Between the tabletop, Fumbbl, and the Cyanide version, I have logged in around 1000 games. Love it. Love leagues. Love team building. Love everything about it.
Epic: Armageddon
I do not have as many games logged in with this one as I do with a lot of games, but no game has given me more enjoyment when it comes to playstyle. To me, this game plays the way the fluff talks about. I also loved painting those little figs and making them look as good as I could.

Just talking about miniatures/wargames:
Star Wars Miniatures (Wizards of the Coast)
It was the first miniatures game I ever played and it holds special place in my heart. I used to play weekly when I was first starting out playing tabletop games. I used to spend hours building lists both serious and fun. If WOTC hadn't discontinued it, and I had to choose 1 game to keep playing it would be this.
I really regret throwing away (literally throwing away... as in dumping everything in a dumpster) all of my Star Wars Miniatures stuff... *sigh* the things we do for crushes who will never become our significant others...
