There's been talk of a new version of Universal's wormy creature feature Tremors for several years now, but it finally sounds like the wheels are in motion. Filmmaker Don Michael Paul (Lake Placid: The Final Chapter, Jarhead 2: Field of Fire) recently took to his blog with a rather interesting announcement.

"After I finish up Company of Heroes: The Fourth Reich, I will be headed to Johannesburg, South Africa, to reboot the Tremors franchise for Universal. Big year ahead, and I’m excited to keep it going with the support of all you genre movie lovers out there."

In case you've been living under a rock for the past 25 years (yes, it's been that long since the first one came out) Tremors told the tale of the natives of a small isolated town who defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.

In other news... There was a sequel to Jarhead?!? Really?!?

really ?

Give.. 2.. no make that 3 weeks before the inevitable campaign to get Michael Cross a cameo/similar in the new series starts.

he could probably do with the money.

Lost most/ a lot of his earnings in the Madoff ponzi scheme IIRC.

I think Hollywood's reaching so low into the bottom of the creative barrel that they're actually gone through it to some previously unknown level.

We're technically on the third Batman remake, third Hulk remake, perhaps third Spiderman, but who cares at this point?

Comic books have already outdone Hollywood in terms of reboots its insane.

Must be directed by Michael Bay or else I won't see it. I like my childhood to be raped in sets of 3.

You know, given Michael Bay's love for explosions he shouldn't be directing; He should play the role he was born to play. Burt Gummer!

Hell yes. Remember when Toonami showed it years and years ago.

I found some episodes online and... and it just hasn't aged well

Personally I loved the tremors movies.

But that's because I'm a big fan of 'so bad it's hilarious' type movies anyway.

Also, if it doesn't have the legendary kevin bacon in it, it's not a truly a tremors movie...

Fixed that for ya. 2 and 3 are just as worthy as the first movie.

While I liked Tremors as much as anyone, let's not kid ourselves. It isn't like this is some cherished franchise being rebooted. Tremors was always a cheesy, quasi-comedy about sandworms/runner things. Let's not get all up in arms about how bad it is going to be because...Tremors itself wasn't that great to begin with.

It was fun. But not good.

Looking forward to this so very much. I loved those movies back when I was in grade school (Not the 3rd one though, even I knew that one was horrible). The 2nd one is still one of my favorite movies ever though.

The 3rd one's great, it's the 4th/prequel that's terribad.

Nah man, he's going to be in charge of the Power Rangers movie.

Seriously though, how is Hollywood struggling to come up with new material? If you looked, there are millions of books still waiting to be Screen-i-vized, and I can come up with one unique story just in seconds if I really wanted to.....

It would be awesome if Hollywood would reboot the Transformers franchise.
