"Limited Edition" can mean anything.

Ooohh... There's a numbered piece of paper saying "First edition"...

But maybe these are "Limited Edition" Leman Russ Battle Tanks and "Limited Edition" Chimeras?

RT = StarTrek 40K

Only at a very superficial level. One thing they said int he interview is that the characters in RT start out might 'bigger' than those in DH. A starter charcater isn't some guy an Inquisitor thought might have talent, but more an accomplished person who has to take on a real challenge.

Unlike ST, Rogue Traders seem to have a lot of independence. OK, most captains in ST fiction play things fast and loose, but they're theoretically part of a military hierarchy. A RT, I'd assume, might have some investors to satisfy, but it's more like Firefly, if Serenity had a crew numbering in the thousands... the RT 9and his 'trusted band' (I.E. the other PCs) can make decisions about how to use their ship, and there's some neat-sounding rules to abstract the economics (so the PCs are worrying about the fun stuff and not pinching pennies) and there's a difference between a RT vessel equipped for combat or trade...

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

What if that was what was in the box. Every codex that hasn't been updated to 5th edition, gets a brand new codex.

Maybe they've just been testing the waters with these 'releases' that weren't tied to a new book. Like the orks in january. That might make my head asplode if it happens. unfortunately, it is in the same odds category as me winning the lottery.

The idea of an Epic relaunch is one that intrigues me, although I don't recall it doing well.

If it's a Necromunda relaunch I will celebrate in the streets.

I think the box is filled with love and the laughter of children.

I am in agreement with its a Plastic Thunderhawk. The bastions, barricades, blastscape and such all were first revealed in the 5th ED. BRB. The only thing not in there was the Ironclad oh and the lanspeeder storm. What they do have in there is a picture of a thunderhawk so i am thinking that most everything being released was already being made. That was probably a prototype. To be honest Space Marines havent gotten their Superheavy yet. IG, ORKs have but space marines need one for Apoc.

So i vote Thunderhawk. And the weight sounds about right.

You make a very valid point. Though I'm disinclined to think that it is the Thunderhawk if "limited release" actually means limited.

should it be a thunderhawk, the limited release could mean that the one in the mystery box has extra upgrades, that the normal one won't. Also it could not be a limited release, just that at the moment they have no plans to mass produce it

See that would be the kinda release that would blow me out of the water. GW isn't particularly renowned for such amazing things. Their releases are all overhyped a year in advance so when it finally hits shelves, everybody is already sick of hearing about it. If GW is capable of fantastic surprises, the box will not contain Space Hulk.

I cannot believe this has been kept so secret! At least 30+ people must know about this on the conservative end. Production, manufacturing, warehouse, artists, printing and that isn't even counting the fact they will be producing 1000's of them.

Secrets in companies are notoriously difficult to keep - families etc. All it takes is one posting with a new account that is never used again....

Maybe the secret is there is no secret.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

One of the problems with this release, is that it is certainly guaranteed to be lame.

As Absoluteblue commented at paint night. Don't you think GW would market this thing traditionally if they thought it was cool? If it was something like space hulk, wouldn't it be much easier to move the product and build anticipation by showing pictures of well painted set ups, and have an article written in White Dwarf about how beloved it is.

The logic behind marketing a box with a question mark on it is very similar to selling a pig in a poke In other words, its something that is easier to sell when the person doesn't even know what it is.

Limited edition, is also a great way of spinning the fact that they have a turd on their hands, they want to cut their losses, dump it and never make any more of it. Well, how do you sell a turd. Simple, jut don't tell anyone its a turd.....

and you don't let anyone smell it either.

Mystery box = fail

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

Limited Edition from GW? You mean it is a test run to see if enought gamer buy it inorder for them to justify them making it a availible forever. Hmmmm, lets see if they did this with anything else? Baneblade, limited edition now you can order 100 of them from GW. Stompa, same thing.

Limited edition a marketing trick to get people to buy up the first run and then say, "Because of the demand we are going to do another production run because we like money." You will see, a year after the box comes out you will still be able to order them on the website. Not very limited.

That'd be a shame if it was. Because that'll mean that whatever Chinese company they farmed the production out to made something so ugly that GW doesn't want to do another run, and doesn't want to take any pictures of it in order to advertise it.

I think the old saying of "limited to the number we can sell" springs to mind - especially looking at the DVD market!

Has any accurate (note I am saying accurate!) information been released on how to pre-order the Mystery Box?

Is the procedure for pre-ordering the Mystery Box the same for each GW store or does it vary from outlet to outlet?

Does a gamer need to camp outside GW store before it opens on a certain date to have the opportunity to pre-order the item as would be expected with a new iPhone or a new gaming console?

Does the total cost of the Mystery Box need to be paid for in advance on the pre-order day?

If the contents of the Mystery Box are going to be released at GW Games Day in Germany (this weekend, correct?) then when is the deadline to visit a GW store to pre-order the Mystery Box?

Thanks in advance for the feedback and speculation.

I feel the same way. I want it to be Space Hulk or a redo of Necromunda or something but I think it's a really lame thing that they're gonna put out.

I mean there a ton of things that GW has put out and made it sound like it the best thing ever made and it turns out to be a steaming pile of poopy.

and I wouldn't even want to buy a Thunderhawk. that's just me though.

I'm not sure if this is the right place on the forum, if not I apologise!

T'other day whilst mooching around in my local GW my Missus had the forethough to grab my shoulder and point at the PC Monitor. Upon it was an open copy of Photoshop with a poster stating "Congratulations, you guessed correctly; the mystery box is "Space Hulk"". Wording may have been different, but I noticed Space Hulk and Mystery Box and as I gasped with the knowledge the Emperor saw fit to grant me the GW employee looked around and angrily closed the program.

Unfortunately I've not had time to post this since that day, but for any who are desperate for confirmation I reckon that's the best we'll get before the announcement (oh ye of little patience, haha!).

Cheers,

yeah,
I call BS... A Store computer would not be loaded with photoshop?
There is no need for a store to have PS, all propaganda will come preprinted from HQ and most corporate PC's are locked down so that employees can't load unlicensed software that could put the company in disrepute, Also dodgy software could crash the computer costing the company money...

I still think it's SpaceHulk...

Panic...

I was just at a GW store, the manager was hoping I had some info on the Mystery Box. So at least in the US, this is still a mystery.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

Dunno mate. However, after a quick chitterchatterchinwag with my local Boys in Blue, I can pretty much confim the price at £50, in so far as that is what they've been told. As to how to Pre-Order, I'd imagine it'll be exactly the same as any other (In Store or Online). Contents, still not a clue. They are either playing a really good game of Tight Mouth Larry, or they genuinely haven't been told.

Me, I'll be outside my local GW, £50 in hand (or not) on Monday 10 a.m. sharp. Just to make sure like.

I would like to honest here. You know as a teen you watched comedy shows you thought were REALLY funny x2. Then you saw the reruns as an adult and the sucked sooo bad you wonder how you ever laughed at them all those years ago. Space Hulk was like that for me. Yes it was fun at the time. I played a couple of games about 12 months ago and it was OKish but not as good as more modern board games. So for me, if it is Space Hulk it will be kind of "meh" and I won't be buying it.

The Amsterdam store has Photoshop, they use it for their own flyers and whatnot. They get nothing from the Uk other than official posters.
