DATASLATE: KHÂRN'S BUTCHERHORDE (EBOOK)

Kill! Maim! Burn!
Khârn the Betrayer is an avatar of rage and slaughter who draws other devotees of Khorne in his murderous wake. This is the Butcherhorde, a solid wedge of power-armoured psychopaths utterly dedicated to claiming blood and skulls for Khorne, no matter the odds they face. As they hack their way across the battlefield, the Butcherhorde become ever more frenzied, until the Warp itself spills forth in answer to their cries.
A Chaos Space Marines Formation
This product includes the datasheet for the Khârn's Butcherhorde Formation, for use in your (inevitably blood-drenched) games of Warhammer 40,000.

If anyone gets this, feel free to post who the unlucky folks are that Kharn will be butchering in his own formation.

THE WORLD ENGINE - NEW EBOOK EXCLUSIVE NOVEL

Hey readers,
As if yesterday's new eBook exclusive novel wasn't already enough of a seasonal reading treat, today we have another one for you!

No one does apocalyptic super-weapons quite like the necrons. In The World Engine, a gargantuan necron fortress-ship has been carving a path through Imperial space and the firepower of entire fleets has done little more than scratch the paintwork. Now, in a desperate gamble, a full Space Marine Chapter is called upon to sacrifice all in order to halt the titanic machine.

Can the World Engine be stopped? You'll have to read it find out.

This new novel comes from Ben Counter, author of the Soul Drinkers series and the Grey Knights trilogy. Expect explosive fight scenes, epic heroism and plenty of weird and deadly alien technologies unleashed against the Astral Knights.

If you enjoy The World Engine (giant necron death-ship versus Space Marine Chapter? What's not to love?) make sure you check out our range of other fiction featuring the soulless metal necrons.

New@BL is going to be taking a short break for a few days while we all recover from eating too much turkey and stuffing at Christmas. We'll be back in the January with all the news from another year of great Black Library fiction.

That's all for 2014,
Thanks for reading.

Thought for the day:
"Whatever you find, kill them all."

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

IIRC the story was in the last edition Space Marine codex (not sure if it is in this one). The chapter is basically wiped out to stop the world engine and the other marine chapters involved decide to make a permanently manned Pearl Harbor-style memorial in their honor.

Not sure how accurate Lexicanum is, but this is their take on the story of the Sable Swords, who adopted the Astral Knights' heraldry following the chapter's sacrifice...

He will be soon enough, a sci-fi fantasy thing or something like that, he plugs it every now and then on Facebook. The guy looks like a space marine though, so place your bets, will this guy be using the same template as all his other space marine characters?

Ah I'm glad to hear this. Absolutely loved the character and depth he brought to some of the 'bad guy' forces in the Heresy series (the Night Lord books in particular), however there is only so many times you can do this and each subsequent story follows a similar path.

Nothing at all wrong with this as they are still great books and very readable (after all, I love reading Jack Reacher books!) but as Dan Abnett has done some great work outside of BL, I also think ADB is something special as a writer and would love to see what he is capable of too when he is given completely free reign.

Seemingly it's an MP3

THE STORY
After their mission in the Sanctus Reach, Grey Knights Justicar Styer and his squad are assigned to locate a lost Grey Knights vessel, the Purifier ship Blade of Purity. Boarding the ship, they find evidence of battle and possible Chaos corruption. Has the impossible happened and Purifiers have fallen to the thrall of the Ruinous Powers? Or is something else stalking the halls of the Blade of Purity?

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
Horror stalks the corridors of a seemingly deserted battleship in this new audio from David Annandale. Has the unthinkable happened? A Grey Knight, a Purifier no less, turned against his own and embraced Chaos? Upon the Blade of Purity, it looks as if just that has happened. What else could explain the vessel's mysterious disappearance, and the loss of all its crew?

Same author wrote "Maledictus" -- a grey knight book/novella that came out during the orks/guard/space wolf campaign -- and that was pretty good.

TBF it's not exactly an unusual or unique ( or original..) approach with regards to this.

Although that is a hundred times more acceptable than the "I'm an evil megalomaniac, time to throw some babies onto spikes"-style bad guy that has come from practically every other writer that has attempted to tackle traitor marines.

You actually felt something for Talos and the other Nightlords - yes their actions were utterly reprehensible, but they were more than just psychopaths and you gained an understanding as to how they had reached that point. It's something very, very few other books have managed - normally I find I am quite contentedly sat munching on a sandwich while I read about the demise of heroic brother X who dies to give his brothers some time to escape and instantly forget it, ADB's book had been gripping the novel in both hands and my face about 6 inches from the pages. Considering the subject matter, that's some accomplishment for an author.

THE STORY
The Dark Angels and the Night Lords fought one another to a bloody stalemate during the Thramas Crusade, leaving the First Legion scattered and under-strength. Back on Caliban, those Dark Angels loyal to Luther begin to grow impatient for a return to past glories, allowing the corruption at the world’s heart to spread.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
This audio reveals the truth of what has been happening on the Dark Angels home world of Caliban while the Lion has been battling against the Warmaster’s forces on the other side of the galaxy. With ties both to ongoing events in the wider Horus Heresy, and to Gav Thorpe’s Legacy of Caliban series, this is an audio no Dark Angels fan will want to miss.

odd news about BL's "print on Demand service"

http://www.blacklibrary.com/new-at-bl/one-day-of-free-shipping-left.html

After the festive shopping spree of December, we've been left with quite a few books with very low stock that will soon be sold out.

These include a selection of our Direct Exclusive range, classic titles no longer available in stores, such as the Necromunda Omnibus, Lord of Night and The Gothic War.

We've collected all of these endangered titles together to make it easier for you to get hold of them before they disappear. Once these titles are gone, they won't be re-printed, so pick them up now while you can.

Another series that will be joining them are our range of Horus Heresy posters.

If you're a fan of awesome science fiction artwork, now is your last chance to pick up a few of these impressive 594 x 420 mm artworks.

Quite a few have already sold out, but there are still over a dozen left to choose from, including some truly iconic pieces. One of our favourites is Know No Fear, as it depicts a primarch punching the head off a Word Bearer!

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
