I think because it represents change, and looking at these new minis, if you liked the old Eldar style, too bad, it's the legacies for you. Considering the number of Eldar that need plastic, these new releases and new name don't seem like good news.

Really not what I was expecting.
Not a big fan of the models so far (except for the red dude), but it might be in part because of the paint job.
I feel like the lady and the avatar would look weird in any army, that they wouldn't fit…

Still hoping that at least one of them will be an HQ choice for Harlequins (especially if the avatar is a LoW).

Love the Gyrinx and the Avatar

"Not Mays" is almost great but too stiff and her headress...........also Dark Eldar ladiesdo like their barefeet eh?

The final player is a bit dull really.

I absolutely love all 3 of them. The woman, I was sold with the fancy headress and head itself: she looks so damn pretty, it was like I was looking at a Malifaux figure. The mix of "puffy" dress and combat attire, it looks like a joy to paint.

But the red armored dude? Oh man, now that is delicious: the face emboss is one of armor detail that makes me salivate because of how cool I think it looks.

The one I'm least sold on is the avatar, and that's only because the idea of painting it kinda intimidates me. Our Lord and Savior Duncan Rhodes better make one hell of a video for that bad boy!

I really like the red armoured chap. A different paint job and some conversion work and he'd make a solid Archon.

The Lady's skirt and stuff does feel to 'Imperial' in feel to me. Sure, she's accessorized with plenty of gem stones but the hip-cushion action has more of that Gothic-Imperial Vibe.

Although, Abbadon is going to have to go some way to beat her insane-o-rama hairdo!

And...frankly my Dark Eldar would be filling that Avatar with splinter fire and Dark Lances before it could open it's mouth.

It's purple, it has a* horn, is hermaphrodite....it's a servant of She-Who-Thirsts, dammit!

If that thing is leading the Imperials down into the Webway, I hope they told the God-Emperor where they were going.

A pass from me, I'm afraid.

Although a Chaos Triumvirate is almost inevitable at this point, surely?

Hopefully with a new Abaddon model. Or whichever Chaos Minion has finally replaced his sorry arse.

The way trademarks work, I'm pretty sure GW could have protected it already, it's futile, which is the real kicker. There's also plenty of people use the new Guard name, I certainly see AM used in place of IG often enough.

I imagine that you have a law degree and have read the previous trade marks, as well as practiced law for you to be so sure about this?
There was something wrong with the Eldar trademark, so they have made steps to secure their IP.

They are still the Eldar for you, so don't let it bother you, friendo.

No, I just have the basic working knowledge that trademarks can be enforced if one can prove they're being used, and that their scope is limited, and as a consequence nobody could start making a line of wargaming miniatures called Eldar.

Which makes me better qualified than over three quarters of the GW legal team during the CHS case.

Latter part of this.

With your short-sighted ability, maybe you should work for GW There is obviously more to this than "no one else can make our miniatures". Every company, heck, every person that invents something locks down their IP, as they are entitled to.

TLDR: your basic knowledge isn't enough.

Your reply shows you're not clear what the difference between trademark, copyright and patent are, so maybe stop with snide comments, and accept that you asked a question and received an answer (one that I never actually said I agreed with, simply that's what I perceive to be the issue) and that while I may not be a legal prefoessional, I probably have a better handle in it than you do.

Yeah now I've come down from shiny new models buzz I'm really interested in what the background is gonna be.

Will book two be a direct continuation from book one? Or will it cover the same time frame from the Eldar perspective?

Biel-tan is an interesting choice. If I was going to pick one of the big craftworlds to use in a plotline involving the 13th black crusade and Ynnead, Ulthwe or Iyanden would IMO have been the (maybe too)obvious choices. Biel-tan is not noted for heavy use of wraith constructs and is further away from the EoT then Earth.

I agree, I have a terrible handle on trademarks, copyright, and patent (which is ironic in a way, noting I work for a law firm), but I don't assume that I do have an idea.

I do apologize however, I did get a bit snide, I just get annoyed when people get in that mind set of "GW changed something I like, now I will hate it because they are greedy" when there is alot more to the picture. I took out this frustration on you, so I am sorry.

GW own the trademark for Eldar anyway.
There would be no need to change the name.

Love 'em. I'm guessing Ynnead has infused the emissary and sword dude with souls which is why they're dripping with soul stones. Only thing I don't like is the Yncarne's sword. Large and ornate as it is, it still looks like a regular eldar sword.

They did, they've had it for ages. Whatever reason they had to come up with the new name, I presume it wasn't just to have something they could trademark.

I wonder if Biel-Tan being at the forefront of the next book is any indication that they're going to finally give us some plastic Aspect Warriors sometime this year.

Well, it certainly fits with GWS portrayal of the ancient intelligent cutthroat race of eldar to have them be the most gullible trusting morons since the fething Navi doesn't it? "Well who are you then?" "Why, don't you recognize me, it's Ynnead, savior of the Eldar race and not a chaos daemon at all!" "Ah yes of course you look trustworthy, come with me I was just going to invite the most intolerant and alien hating factions of the imperium over for tea in the webway."

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
