Thanks guys!

Did some hobby, yay!
First up found my missing Rescue Team head and got it on a body:

Green stuff straps for the air cylinder on his back are currently curing...

+++

Finished a few more of the wierd scale dudes using what I assume are Bolt Action minis from OSJCs bits:

Again Frostgrave arms, 1/35 weapons and Necromunda heads:

There was a lot of frustration involved in getting the weapons in hands but I'm happy with the results.

+++

Some first bits coming for the Beorht system, specifically Beorht Delta (haven't settled on a neam yet).

So some fluff;
The Beorht System is located in the Nephilim sector, Ultima Segmentation and has two habitable planets, Delta and Epsilon.
The date is about 765.M41
Most of the action takes place on Delta where approximately 20 years ago after some Mechanicus shenanigans, some massive Blackstone Obelisks erupted from the ground.
This is where I basically go full S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Some bases to get an idea on how the terrian is going to look:

Aiming for a moorland look from (poor) memory, mostly mud with tufts of grass and the occasional bit of lichen dipped in Dirty Down moss.

Also based on Beorht Delta is a Trash Wastes Bandit:

He comes from an idea I had after painting the FW Relic Trader to use rubbish bags as clothing. My least favourite Ash Wastes Nomad was volunteered for conversion.
I think the others may follow...

Lastly for this week, I bought some bits that I plan to use for the Beorht PDF:

I'm thinking Krieger legs/torsos and Cadian heads and arms. Probably going to cover up the Krieg filter boxes with pouches to get an old soviet vibe.

You've no idea how pleasing it is to see so much over that job lot being used so passionately and thoroughly!

The Beorht PDF is something I'm eagerly awaiting to see. The mix of parts will be most interesting to see. I've only seen krieg arms on cadian bodies, not t'other way round but it's a logical step that should produce truly striking effect! Id suggest using the incursor/infiltrator leg pockets for the chest if I were you. If you gently slice off the two smallest ones (save them for belts and the like) and use the resultant pair on the chest and they'll make the job easier. Very thin. Curved and sleek but still chunky enough on guard without looking absurd. Just my twopennith, you know by now hoc OCD I am about pockets, lol!

Cool Bandit and conversions. It’s often frustrating to get disparate bits to fit nicely, but super satisfying when they do! Looking forward to the PDF Kriedians

OJSClatchford: No problem on the bits, I'm surpring myself sometimes...
Thanks for the suggestion for the pouches, but I don't have much interest in Space Marines so the sprues I have are hidden in the bottom of a not so easy to access box...
Gobert: Thanks, it was indeed super satisfying when I got them to a good point.

Hi all, Meant to post last week but this just means I have more to post...

It's pretty much all Beorht stuff at the moment, still can't come up with a good name for Beorht Delta, most of my naming at the moment are coming from Old English words and I'm leaning towards Onginnan (to begin) or Acennan (to give birth).
Beorht Epsilon is provisionally Sweostor (Sister).

Anyways, put together some Kriedians:

The pouches went quite smoothly, I found some that I liked glued them together in a trio and then made a Blue Stuff mold of it:

(I used the pouches in the right, no idea where they're from, they had cylinders next to them, I'm sure OSJC will know )
This I then filled with sprue goo and let dry, less is more it seems. This gave me a thin shell that was easy to trim down to the right size. I also did some pouches with GS and Miliput as a test

First issue I had was that there weren't enough Kantrael style lasguns in the box, so I have to put some special weapons in for now or wait until I grab another nucadian box...
It seemed appropriate to use the krieg sniper rifle as it looks more bolt action and I added a GSC shotgun as well:

The next issue was the heads not being compatible at all. I solved this with filing the top smooth, reducing the height of the collars in the process, and the drilling a 5mm neck hole. This was then cleaned up with a knife:

Then the neck of the cadian head was trimmed to fit. A bit of sprue goo in the neck hole helped fill the gaps:

Another problem was the back of the Krieger torso, I didn't want to use the backpacks as these guys are supposed to be on base so "might as well take dope and beer instead."
This left a gap that I have since filled with a Miliput/GS mix.

At some point, I will make some GS up to finish the webbing straps.
I am currently putting that off as I type...

+++
Also for Beorht, I started on some of the Noble class:

Commodore Saehulf (Left) and Lord General Field Marshall Hereward (Right).

Commodore Saehulf, Commander of Fleet Beorht. Responsible for four picket ships and 2 troop carriers as well associated landing craft and voidsmen. His orders come primarily from Battlefleet Nephilim which, despite being a cousin of the governor, he takes great delight in reminding the govening body when conflicts of interest arise.
He does however regularly favour his home system in secret...

Lord General Field Marshall Hereward, commander of the PDF.
A vain and corrupt man who is close friends with the governor. Regularly underfunds and sells off PDF assets. The Departmento Exacta sends an agent to monitor his activities during the tithe.
He views himself as the pinicle of armed warfare and hates the fact that the Psyker Deupavor has more military experience than him and so he ensures that he personally executes enemies of the state in an attempt to inflate his kill count.

+++

Lastly some more Trash Wastes Bandits:

The Heavy started out as an exoskeleton suit for Hereward before I decided to try and keep the nobles dressed as if they're going to a party.

Hey all, thanks for the kind words, my last post was quick to get something out and motivate me, been doing other stuff as well, but not much.
I've been having a bad year for motivation it seems and I'm struggling to get stuff done.
This includes updating the blog/Instagram unfortunately, I meant to post this last week...

First up there are a couple of Beorth system "nobles"
Provisionally the governors wife:

I fear she's a bit boring, model wise, but not sure what to add to her.
character wise, she's only here because the governor needs a wife and she knows it, so she causes small mischiefs for her own entertainment...
Like informing certain people of parties and secret cabinet meetings.

My random inquisitor now gets a name and a party outfit:

Need to add to prayer beads and =][= sigil to her to tie her model to her combat version.
She's now Inquisitor "Gloria" of the Ordo Herectus. Widely disliked by the local born nobles of Beorht because she often does not respect thier authority. She gets invites to parties despite nobody knowing who sent them.
She is mainly an excuse to have some Sisters of Battle around.

Some bits on the PDF troops:

I filled in thier backs with Miliput and then came back with green stuff straps.
I have since made progress painting them but doing multiple minis feels like a slog right now.

Also up is a quick knock up of my leftover parts:

I may have a need for governments that the Imperium does not recognise as the rulers of the planet.
Technically they're not at war but they are independent of the Planetary Governor and they do take military action against each other.
These guys may be involved as mercenaries but I'm still in the spitballing phase...

Thats all for now, I have started work on an Admech "Librarian" character but I'm away for work this week so no pics yet...
See you next time...

Still here, I guess I post monthly now...
First up some nobles:
Commodore Saehulf:

Uniform heavily inspired by Royal Navy, despite the beret, seeing as he's in the Imperial Navy.
Also settled on a basing style, Hereward gets a similar one.

Next up Inquisitor Gloria:

She got her rosary beads and =][= sigil but it's on the border of how small I can actually make things.
Her leaf spring leg was a last minute addition when I suddenly remembered she only had one leg.
Rather amusingly, whilst gluing her down, the way I made the leg caused her to shoot off her base when the glue failed.
She also get to show off the little bit of terrain I've put together for the party shots.

Lady Eadgifu Beorhtic gets an update:

Started as an attempt to do ruffles, didn't go well so now its fur...
I think it changes the cut of the original dress to something more interesting, now just need to pick a colour, maybe pink? I don't think I've painted anything pink...

+++

Onto some WiPs:
Trash wastes biker got his arm sculpted:

Bit bulky but I'm happy with it

The AdMech "librarian":

They'll be representing a scientist group interested in cataloguing artifacts. probably not going to turning up to any parties as they're too rough looking
Not happy with the staff, tried a "not Jaffa" replacement, but still not happy, may get rid of it completely.
Or a cane...

+++

Back on Necromunda:
My rescue team gets their second man:

This guy is bringing the roll up stretcher to put the casualty in really pleased with how this guy came out

Also the casualty:

Trying to keep them vague enough to be man or woman as well as not readily apparent what thier injury is
Now I think about it, I'm gonna need to do a casualty in a stretcher now...

Anyway I have a body and hands for the Entry Controller, the final member of the rescue team, but I'm going to need to sculpt the arms.

+++
Misc stuff:
Painted up some terrian:

Tried to hide the Orky bits with rust and cutting it off, now that I've finished it occurs to me I could put some tarps over the worst offenders to add some ties to the Trash Wastes Bandits...

Also started a pallet of Jerry cans:

Don't know why, just an idea that came to me.
There will be a tarp over the top so the plasticard will be disguised.

Also transferred some paints:

I know it seems like Heresy moving the Vallejo paints into GW pots, but there is a reason.
Basically, the fluorescent paints are so thick that I have issues squeezing the paint out. Also I can't mix them very well in thier original bottles.
Instead I used the dropper bottles for stuff that I don't want to be sticking a paint brush in such as mediums...

+++

Lastly it was my birthday today:

So whatever hobby plans I've got are going out the window for the next month...

See you next time...

Happy Birthday! Looks like a nice assortment of distractions to keep busy with!

Very nice work all around. The rescue team member is excellent- nice combination of adaptation, scratch building and sculpting- the best example of what we do here at Dakkadakka.

I can see the ruffles in the sculpted dress, but agree that it could go as fur also and look darn good. And pink, definitely pink!

Keep on keepin' on, man!

I try to practice by making duffel bags and bed rolls, but they all seem to end up looking like French baguettes.
Bonus points for the trompe l'oeil marble floors.

Hey hey that time again...
Meer_cat: Thank you, the rescue team is something I do IRL so I am fully aware of their inaccuracies so that I could actually build it and keep the 40k vibes...

Tommygun1918: Thanks, my main problem with greenstuff is I always do all or nothing instead of building up layers.
the marble lines are just highly watered down white contrast on the black and druchii violet on the white, blob it on and the paint settles on the edges, very quick and easy...

So its been a month for me mostly centered around having a probable siezure about a week after my last post.
Physically I'm fine, but the better parts of my job require me to not have seizures (like, legally) so anxiety is up this month despite how good about it my bosses have been...

Spent most of this month making rather than painting seeing as the stars have to align for me to comfortably hold a paint brush right now

+++

So first up been working on my CSR Team:
Got an Entry Controller built:

Arguably the most important member of the team, an Entry Controller is the person that has the final say on who enters a confined space as well as documenting everything going on.
On a good shift they're the one doing most of the work (on paper at least)

The Team leader got another pass of green stuff to make them look closer to regular miners and the Second Man got himself a new thumb, he now keeps plants in his free time...

Also I vaguely mentioned doing a casualty in a strecher so, to my great surprise, I actually did it:

I think this is probably the most involved I have ever been with making a model, definitely on the border between scratch build and conversion.
Going more for vibes than accuracy in order to keep the Warhammer look, also it's easier (:
I did try and use plasticard for the stretcher but I couldn't get it to bend the way I needed without tearing so instead gone with some heavier paper.

+++

Also made this:

Don't ask what it is, I don't know...
Mainly just throwing some of OSJCs bits together with a centaur theme, but I think I can have the head or the arms, not both...

+++

So on to the Left at the Bottom of the Garden...
I decided I needed a background for photos and had a box that I was planning to use for a Grillet box
So first thing, I did a cover:

Got some stamps together and used some wooden letters to do a simple print and then threw some other bits in. I'm not 100% happy with the result to be honest, but I'm now to far in to fix it...

Inside is a bit different:

Started with a quick paper mock up so I could get to see what I would want to do. Decided to keep the tree separate seing as i have a bunch of Mantic ones that fit.
The well would be in the way to much, but I might make a removable one later
I then filled in the space with foam core, doing the back floor at an angle so that it sits level when the box is open.
the house is made from sign board with the stone work etched in with a pen and lollipop stick woodwork.
House was kept separate for painting and glued in last.
The main ground area is model railway ballast mixed with Mod Podge with the brown path being GW texture paint.

The ground was then painted several shades of brown and drybrushed with a biege before being liberally covered in static grass...
I also added a 1/35 tap and (cut down) spade to the wall for a bit of interest.

You may notice that there is no roof and thats because I planned to do a thatched roof and then forgot about it...

Anyways on to painting where I tried to do my bestest smoothest painting and decided on no metalic paints or washes

The old woman who lives in the woods:

A Cloth Wolf - Snarling:

+++

In other hobby news, I'm playing Space Marine 2.
It's good fun and I am mostly enjoying it, but I find it very hard even on easy, there's a lot of buttons you need to press while fighting and the screen gets busy quickly.
Vibes are great though and I do feel like a space marine even if I have earn almost every kill on a synapse creature...

That's all for now, see you next time!

Sorry to hear about your possible seizure. I wish you a swift recovery. I love that bizarro centaur servitor thing. I think both the armed and the head should stay. It's such an eccentric 40k thing to do. Also, I really love all of these conversions. I love the story behind them all. Nobility models and dressed down Inquisitors are such a cool and missing aspect of this hobby. There's not enough regular civilian models on the market.

Entry controller model is coming out great. Such a cool and characterful idea. The cottage, weird grandma, and cloth wolf all came out great. I am 100% here for all of this neat stuff.

Hope the seizure turns out to not be the case, either way, wishing you good health! Loving the Left at the end of the Garden stuff, I’ve not seen them before, but they’re very cool. The display box is super cool too, the smooth surfaces are a great style for the minis. Good luck finishing the cottage roof and well

Heya, thanks for the kind words, no need to worry.
I (possibly) had the type of seizure nobody notices and has low risk of injury. The only reason I noticed was because it happened outside.
Still waiting on a specialist for a brain scan to confirm though.
I'm told that most people who have a seizure never have another, so if it was one, I just need to wait out the "cool down" period before I can drive or enter confined spaces.

@Warboss_Waaazag: I did sculpt a bit of a gap filling hood on to the centaur but then the cat killed it and its been on the back shelf since.

@Gobert: There's so many cute minis in the range, gonna have to collect them all before they go OoP

+++

So what have I been up to?
Made an attempt at paint some kittens from Left at the Bottom of the garden:

Tried to go with a fat quarter vibe, but my hand tremors where too bad and I wasn't happy with the spots so stopped for a while

+++

Followed up on my idea to add tarps to my junk piles:

First attempt is masking tape with mod podge, but it didn't work very well...
Second try used "sniper tape" which looked better, had a nice texture and dried more solidly with the mod podge.
Painted up the jerry can pallet and the tarps:

Happy with the results, but only now just realised I painted all the tarp the same colour... Whoops

+++

Big thing this month is I've finally bought an Arvus lighter:

I've wanted one since they first came out seeing as its a "civilian" vehicle...
First thing I did was paint the pilot:

They've obviously redone the molds for this and the master was 3D printed excepting the pilot.
Still plenty of warping to deal with though:

So I put it in a pot of hot water and got the wings flat.
Didn't do so well with the fuselage though, it went from slight warping on one axis to slightly less warping on two axes.
A bit of gap filling and a coat of primer later and you can barely tell:

Not shown is I didn't put the cockpit divider in place and did a bit of carving to make it less obvious. Now you can see straight through the cockpit and out the rear hatch.

Went for a grey and red colour scheme, and tried an above cloud level base:

I used a sponge to stipple thinned grey over black which when repeated with lighter colours gave an interesting texture.
Tried to use contrast for the red but it didn't work out well so I masked off the stipes and repeated the sponge technique.
Engines got a heavy drybrush of leadbelcher and then a wash of black contrast.
Base was a random idea that I had and got fixated on, didn't want to have to pick between Necromunda or Beorht themed.
Basically just scraps of cotton interfacing glued down around some cut off bits of pipe. Unfortunately it looks a lot better in the photo than IRL

I then used washes and contrast paints to grime it up as well a bit of black for scuffs and panel lines.
On the ground:

In the air:

Gonna solve the problem of not liking the base by not using it, also not a fan of the connector for the flying base.

+++

Also been working on my CSR team
Casualties are made:

Also built a tripod to help get a body out of a hole:

+++Tri-Ind+++

Specialising in underground mining, promethium processing and industrial cleaning, Tri-Ind often employs specialised confined space rescue teams.

The knowledge that such a CSR team is on its way is enough to encourage workers to happily enter areas that others would not. Failing that, there is always the promise of an open bar to keep work progressing...

+++

Also kinda following the Confined Space thing, started making a ZM board with a raised area that I can hide a confined space in:

Ignore the blurry ZM floor, it fell as I took the picture.
plan is to build it as a storage tank with walls on the tile side and open on the edges so you can see the ribbing and potentially move models in.
I'm using some Mantic pipe ends to make some removable tank lids for the tileside walls.

That's all for now

Great update Guardling! The kittens look super cute, look forward to seeing the rest of the gang.
That Arvus Lighter looks great, the sponging of the grey really does give a lovely texture. It must be a great focal point of your display shelf now.
The Confined Space team is great, I love the idea that they’re all for show to motivate the menials to go to more dangerous spots! The injured one looks great as a drunk in the bar as well!

Wow. Amazing work. The conversions really tell a story in each individual model. I'm totally stealing your tripod idea for scenery in the future.

As far as thinking about mercenary companies or independent city states, it is completely reasonable that there would be 'God-Emperor fearing' but not necessarily following, nations on the same planet, especially if the Governor is incredibly corrupt and can't really take them over or enforce his will (as seems likely), as long as every pays the tithe necessary. Integrating them might be more trouble than it is worth to the local leaders.
