So I've been reading that there are relatively credible rumors that Eldar are getting a new codex My question is, didn't we just have a new eldar codex? It's been a while since I've played and I haven't been tracking GW releases very closely, but for some reason I thought that the last eldar codex was one of the most recent codexes released... Can somebody fill me in here?

Once again, these are just rumors and may not be true.

Please post this in the actual Eldar rumor thread. This will get deleted as this is neither news nor rumors.

As this was moved, and not deleted, I’ll try to answer.

It’s been around two years since the last codex. Which is an unprecedented amount of time to get a new book. But then 7th came out about 2 years after 6th, so it’s not unheard off. Just really, really irritating. The average length of time was closer to 4 years, and not every codex got updated, so they averaged a longer lifespan then that.

But GW has been cranking out books at a record pace. We can’t judge how much turn around they are aiming for. I would not be surprised if they started replacing hardcover codexes at this point. There have been some fairly significant format and structural changes in the 7th edition books.

It might just be a supplement. Who knows. Just hold your breath, hope for the best, and guard your wallet.

It is rumored to have a new title so it's possible it won't replace the old one. Though since I just bought the 6th one I have a feeling it will.

GW's going through releases very rapidly these days.

Getting a new Eldar codex might be a good thing, there's certainly balance issues with the current one. If the books weren't $50, and were more their old price of $20-30, I don't think anyone would be complaining, it's a good thing that armies are getting updated in a proper timespan.

That said, in light of the Necron codex and subsequent Harlequin and Khorne Daemonkin books, I'm really not liking the direction GW is going at all with these newer books, particularly after the radical change from the late 6E/early 7E books that are much less capable, so who knows? Eldar have historically almost always been one of the top armies and routinely considered to have balance issues in just about every edition except 5th (which they didn't get a codex for).

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Eldar are the second oldest/weakest model range in the game right now (only worse-off army is Sisters), they desperately need plastic Aspects/new Guardians. If the rumour that they're bringing back Codex: Craftworlds (the original was a 3e book covering Iyanden, Ulthwe, Saim-Han, Alaitoc, and Biel-Tan in adjustments to the core Eldar Codex) are true it could easily be their excuse to bring out plastic Aspects and Jetbikes.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I refuse to believe the 2013 Eldar codex will be officially invalidated anytime soon... they still havent redone DA or CSM yet and those are not only older, but also in far more dire need of updating.

What we're most likely gonna get is a Craftworlds codex with CW-specific "chapter tactics" and formations to accompany it.

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

There's another reason to accelerate codex launches: before the end of May (and fiscal year), everything helps to bring more money to GW

ok I'm pretty sure that I'm just mistaken about the timeline of releases. For some reason I thought Eldar were the last or second to the last codex that came out. I don't really remember an AM codex coming out, and definitely I'd like to see a CSM codex at some point (and 1k Sons and BT standalone codexes while I'm throwing out my wish list).
