Hyderabad, India

$35 for 30 Krauts.

The war that would be over by Christmas 1914 drags on. Soldiers on both sides are confronted by the grim reality of modern war: trenches, barbed wire, machine guns, and poison gas. Still, battles must be fought and won at any cost.

This hard plastic box set allows you to build up to 30 German infantry equipped with rifles, MP-18, MG-08/15, grenades, pistols, and hand-to-hand weapons. We have also included enough heads to outfit every figure with stahlhelm, helmets with gasmask, feldmütze (field cap), or pickelhaube.

Some bodies have been left without rifle ammunition pouches so that you can turn them into officers but there are separate pieces to allow every figure to be a standard rifleman as well. 10 loose grenades per sprue so you can go full-on trench raiding!

Product Code: WAAGW001

Models require assembly and painting. Bases are not included.

Sculpting: Thieu Duong

Illustration: Peter Dennis

Figure Painting: Matthew Leahy

Worth highlighting:

We have also included enough heads to outfit every figure with stahlhelm, helmets with gasmask, feldmütze (field cap), or pickelhaube.

So yes Virginia, there are plastic DKK.

I have to hand it to Wargames Atlantic.

They have carved themselves a nice little corner of the market.

A nice range of historicals, a mix of Fantasy and a sci fi range with the ability to be tapped into by GW Imperial Guard players.

Even better, with all the ranges coming from the same company and in the same scale, the mix and match potential is great.

I have no particular need for WW1 Germans but there are gamers out there who can now do Death Korps with a mixture of Les Grognards and the WW1 box.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Space Brits after investing in three boxes of Les Grognards. Additionally, whatever bits left over will likely lead into me buying the 19th Century Gurkhas box to add some variety to my Praetorian army.

Oh, let's not forget Space Spiders.

I just discovered these guys and I'm blown away by the price point, take for instance the Raumjäger Infantry. You'd be hard pressed to find a multi-part kit with that many troops for that price.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

I bought the three boxes of Les Grognards, plus six others from a sprue offer, for the potential to have 80 not-Vostroyans. I've built up 55 as a Platoon and have the others left over to see what happens when the Grognard heavy weapons are released although the temptation to have some sci fi French Foreign Legion is still there.

The sheer number of head options mean I've made some outlay back from bits auctions/ swaps for those who want gas mask Adrian helmets and so on.

I am confused, are these Grognards with pickelhaubes from the WW1 German set or are there two German sets?

Those are Grognards mixed with the WW1 German kit.
Their historical and sci-fi kits seem to fit well together from the conversions I have seen.
The kits from Wargames Atlantic do not bring any bases. I think they added a note on some of the kits in the store.

Bases are available for pennies elsewhere.

If the lack of bases means an extra couple of minis in the box, go for it!

My only little grumble so far is the pistol and sword arms for Les Grognards both being on the right. It looks like the upcoming heavy weapons set has Command options such as a power fist and a comms set so that issue could be corrected but it's early days and if the team are learning and improving all the time, so much the better.

.easy fix. Cut sword off of hand. Flatten top of hand on left-handed grenade arm. Cut parallel lines and remove portion of grenade to make an approximation of a handle.

Attach sword with plastic cement.

Thanks for the lesson on kitbashing. I would never had thought of that.

Oh wait, I did! These kits aren't my first rodeo.

I used the phrase 'little grumble' not 'infantile toys out of the pram showstopper'.

If you’re at that “easy fix” stage, you’re probably going to grab a better sword and pistol from another kit anyway. And then you’ll be thinking about what other kits to buy to “easily fix” your grognards. And then you’ll be spending less of your project budget on Wargames Atlantic than you would have if they provided a kit that didn’t require an easy fix.

(I recommend the Shieldwolf sisters’ weapons. They have plenty of swords that look right on slightly-less-heroic minis, and their bolters can be “true scale” or “heroic” depending on where you snip the barrel.)

I don't mind, I just found it odd. I infinitely prefer no bases at all to those integrated kidney bases that companies similar to WA usually do.

Just note that historical and fantasy kits come with oval discs attached to the feet (as it is usual with most historical stuff).
Sci-fi kits are completely baseless as "normal" with GW's and similar kits.

As much as I like the Grognards I’m surprised they didn’t start expanding the Raumjaegers first. They did come out first so you would figure the would have gotten the command and heavy weapon# treatment first. Makes me think they have abandoned that style ☹️

Could just be which kit sold better.

Maybe but since the Raumjaegers have been sold out for a long time I doubt that’s the reason ☹️

It doesn't necessarily have to be one or the other. I'm thinking that some of those heavy weapons could be generic enough to use for either Grognards or Raumjaegers. A power fist doesn't have much "ethnic style" to it. What if they developed the heavy weapons, and the arms are the only things different? Could save some time and resources using generic weapons for differing humans.

On a side note, as soon as those heavy weapons and the not-Squats come out I'll be buying about a dozen boxes of various product.

They have stated that the heavy weapons will be unique for each army and that Raumjagers would get some as well in the future.
I suppose they decided to go with grognards first, either because of a community poll or for creative reasons, as both kits seem to be selling rather well.
