Perhaps slightly NSFW.

http://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/33230677-story

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Ransack, trash, terrorize, those are all words that don't even seem to do justice describing what one Alaska woman did to a East Anchorage Subway.

It all happened Tuesday evening around 7:30 p.m. at the location near Tudor Road and Patterson Street. Employees say the woman came in and then began "acting odd." And odd is putting it lightly.

In an interview given to KVAT CBS 11 News, Sgt. Shaun Henry of the Anchorage Police Department said "People described her as ‘a little crazy. She disrobed, went fully nude and kinda just went nuts. Started breaking furniture, destroyed the store, knocked over computers, ripped the ceiling down, sprayed a fire extinguisher all over, locked herself in the bathroom for awhile, broke just about everything you could find.”

Employees later told officers they found human waste on the floor while cleaning up. The woman, now identified as 35 year old Nikki Abrell, is believed to have been under the influence of drugs, specifically 'spice,' which officers determined based upon her behavior. They also claim she slipped out of handcuffs and could only communicate by mumbling her words..

The entire incident was captured on video. The unedited and NSFW version is available on the YouTube channel for KVAT CBS 11 News.

Abrell was taken to the hospital for treatment. She is believed to have caused at least $20,000 in damage to the store and is currently being held on $10,000 bond. She is now charged with third-degree criminal mischief, harassment and resisting arrest.

She is believed to have caused at least $20,000 in damage to the store.
I call BS. In the photos (which I assume are of the aftermath) there is one ceiling tile down, and one computer screen on the floor which is probably worth less than $100 (if it's even broken). Even if we round that up to $1000, Another 19k for a few flipped chairs and tables sounds rather excessive.

One thing to consider: If she discharged a fire extinguisher, and that extinguisher was one of the PKP type extinguishers (which most restaurants have as it is designed to comabt grease/oil fires) then the powder would have gotten all over everything. I know this from experience having discharged one in my own home due to a grease fire. That fine powder gets all over everything once it gets into the air and settles so everything has to be cleaned. This in itself is probably not a huge protion of that 20k$ but taking into account labor, and cost of any food etc that had to be disposed of, could get kind of spendy.

I dont see how it all adds up to 20k$ but then again I saw a 6" ball valve on a submarine that cost the government $350k so cost of "things" doesnt suprise me any more.

If she got her hands on the equipment in the back, a lot of that is custom made for those restaurants, and would be expensive to replace.

Plus if there is human waste involved I believe the Dept of Health (or whatever the equivalent of this is in AK) has to come out and recertify that the place is clean and can serve food again.

I don't expect Subway are quite as generous as the defense department though.

Even if you do add it up generously:

$3000 - all new tables and chairs.
$1000 - new toilet.
$2000 - new refrigerator.
$5000 - clean up crew (lets splash out)
$2000 - other repairs.

That's still $7,000 dollars short of what they are (or someone is) claiming, and I bet they wouldn't spend half that (like Subway spends $1000 on a toilet).

Little? No, if she tore it up and [supposedly] caused a lot of damage, then that was not a little crazy.

I thought about what those things would reasonably cost, and then added thousands of dollars extra just to make sure. For example a toilet costs between £50-£100 here. A plumber might charge £300 to install it. So lets call the $2000 even. I'm still not seeing where the rest of the money is going.

I agree, its all speculation at this point but I wonder if it goes to trial if the defense attourneys will ask for a breakdown of cost to the store. On that note, I wonder if that $20k number is just a rough estimate, by the store, that is required by the local court in order to establish what crimes to charge and at what level e.g.: if damage above $20k is 2nd class felony as apposed to a 3rd class felony etc. *shrug*

Yeah, it's complete speculation. It just struck me as an odd figure. But now you mention that the cost of the damage might be relevant to level of felony, that's a very interesting point.

Spoiled food and lost business could easily fill up that void.

Industrial kitchen equipment isn't cheap.

The oven/proofer for the bread is probably 3-5K for example. The meat slicer we had at the one I worked at in the mid 1980s was about $800 and replacement blades were over $200. $250 for a cash register is pretty easy (can be quite a bit more). The system that handles drinks (CO2, syrup, coolant and so on) has some expensive components. As mentioned, doing a decon of the store isn't cheap. Any food needing to be tossed and replaced is a cost. Any damage to walls and other objects also adds up quickly as everything needs to be repaired/replaced to code which generally means only certain contractors can do the work and let you pass inspection.

Seeing as a Subway franchise goes from over 100k to 250k (obviously not all that is equipment) I can see 20k of damage to a location being pretty easy to achieve.

No doubt, but lost earnings sounds like a civil matter. Not sure how the law works in Alaska, but that would probably need to be a separate issue from criminal damage.

You'd still factor that sort of thing into a criminal charge.
