No surprise, but Sedition Wars is now on sale on Amazon uk for £27.70 with free delivery, less than half price. A good set of models for the price.

Time really does heal all wounds, doesn't it? I painted up and sold off my first set, cursing mouldlines and wrecked sprue attachment points. And a mediocre game.

But they really are good models, I built and cleaned them in a day, and that's a ridiculously good price for 50 of them.

Actually seriously tempted now...

Yeah, this set is 100% worth it at that price! I got mine at £25 on ebay a while back and it's possible the best bang-for-buck on hobby product I've had in a while. The minis are brilliant aesthetically, the sculpts are decent if you don't mind a mold line or two, and the bases and tiles are good quality too. Actually, 50 scenic bases would probably set you back at least £25, so buy it for those and get 50 minis, 6 double sided tiles, useful counters and maybe even a game for free!

Miniature Market has it for $28 USD. I nearly picked up a second set when they had them for $18 during the spring clearance sale, looks like they're almost out of them tho and I doubt they'll ever be restocked.

I highly recommend the scenery pack, lots of super useful bits in there. It's more expensive than the game istelf just because the main game is always on sale, but it's worth it

Just wanted to add to those that say "buy it". The rules to the game didn't impress me at all, but I wanted to put together a generic sci-fi trooper force for use with various indie rulesets and this was a great opportunity to do so with top-quality McVey Sculpts.

I've bought 3 copies of the game so far. I kept the "Vangaurd" figs and the scenic bases. I split the first one with a friend and made back my money on the second two by selling off the game components and Strain minis.

The Restic/Plasti-resin figs are a true pain-in-the-butt to cleanup and assemble, but it's entirely do-able and the results look great even with crap painting skills like mine.

Here's my review and gallery of the first 17 troopers.

Quick-painted, dipped and based on "Champ Industries" plastic bases.

Here's what my buddy did with a bunch of the Strain and Deadzone Plague to make a big mutant horde.

The other 34 are done and when I finish a set of the heroes I'll post about the whole group.

I bought one for $35 on Amazon, and five @ $20 from Miniatures Market, and still have yet to do anything with them.

Although I did use the cool translucent green chits for reanimation markers for Necrons, back when Necrons still used markers for reainamtion protocols. Wait, the dice are pretty cool and I have a bunch of them that got a lot of use.

The game is $30 shipped on Amazon right now. Not much more than the old Miniatures market price + shipping (now it's $28+$6 shipping at MM).
$30 for 50 figs and 50 cool scenic basses is chump change.

That it comes with a game is largely irrelevant to me except that one can always use more D6's and many of the counters are suitably generic enough to be used in many other sci-fi games.

I also found that the plastic infection counters and the little status indicator discs that plug onto the bottom of the minis are great for greebling. I used them to good effecton a batch of shipping containers that I made from Micro Machine playsets.

Thanks!
It was a very lucky coincidence of getting the Sedition bits and finding a bag of Micro machines playsets at a resale shop at near the same time.

There are some great bases in the box, and at that price it becomes almost worthwhile to buy it just for them.

I'm probably going to use my Strain and Vanguard with a good third-party skirmish game. Currently I am thinking either Rogue Planet, or Flying Lead from Ganesha, as I have heard loads of good things about Song of Blades and Heroes, and people say Flying Lead is better for sci-fi. Though the Vanguard troops with characters would make a good naval boarding party for In The Emperor's Name, too.

I also wondered about maybe using the actual SedWars rules, but with inches over open terrain rather than the squares, but the need for so many damn rules updates and faq's after the kickstarter shipped soured me.

I like the game, and worked on those updates a lot-- was pretty sad when most of the material never got consolidated into an honest-to-goodness, not-rushed, complete second edition, since a bunch of us worked really hard on that :(

Turned into (IMHO of course) a solid board game, that took reading through too many fixes to actually access.

If you want to give it a spin, most of the errata is to avoid exploits/clarify, with very few things that would change a casual play through: IIRC, just "opatching" with nano and revenant reactions from errata, and the load out document's scenario updates would cover most things to get the right feel without reading 20 pages or w/e.

I can't say enough good things about ganesha games, definitely give flying lead a try.

@spiraling I recall speaking to you a few times on the studio McVey forum a couple of years ago, before giving up and walking away. Glad to see the painting is going well.

Just to let folks know it's currently $27 shipped from Amazon USA and even better, it's
$18 + Shipping on Miniatures market!

I'm holding firm at 3 sets, but for anyone looking to build a generic sci-fi trooper or zombie army, this is by far your best bet!

As for which games... I love Ganesha, but for some reason, Flying Lead never felt right to me. We've had good luck with these two.

-Blasters and Bulkheads. A great game based on the "goalsystem" engine that supersystem uses. A nice division between Heroes that are really dynamic and Mooks/henchmen/troopers that activate in groups and don't take much bookeeping.

-In The Emperor's Name. A great little warband combat game that is as good for generic combat skirmish as it is for it's intended 40k skirmish.

Yeah I'm thinking the SedWars minis could be Imperial Navy troopers and Dark Mechanicus-created monstrosities, maybe with a GW Skiitari or two as rogue Techpriests accompanying them.

Two other great options for the Sedwar figs.

-Deadzone/Warpath Enforcers and Plague. They're very similar in style.
-Infinity. Not sure about which faction, but it's probably the set of affordable figures closest in style to the slick sci-fi aesthetic of Infinity.

Hi James, sorry to hear it didn't appeal, though thanks, re: painting

Yeah, SW would make some really cheap infinity guys, I've been using them for Guard and Infinity as I paint stuff slowly.

Also, with all this talk of cheap SW minis, anyone have a spare Grendlr they'd be willing to part with for a little cash/some bits/w/e? Had a conversion idea I'd been planning.

9? 9! I'm both curious and terrified to know what you have planned for all that... by my count, that's 450 minis just from SedWars

Far be it for me to criticize anyone for buying more minis, although I would comment that 9 sets of SedWars may be just a bit excessive... OTOH, 450 minis for $250? is quite a good value. Have fun with it!
