Hey guys !

As a long time Chaos fan who finds himself loving multiple legions , I thought I'd see what you all think.

Which is your favourite, and why ? It could be from a Background fluff, aesthetic, modeling/converting or any other point of view (please explain).

Personally I fell in love with the Death Guard immediately. I attributed this to my childhood fascination with Horror movies drawing me to Chaos, and love of Zombie movies and the colour green to Death Guard

That said however, I have found myself come extremely close to starting Night Lords ( just something about those lightning bat eared skull ninjas) and Alpha Legion ( Some amazing metallic blue/green schemes out there) .

I left it open to generic God dedications for those of you who rock 'Successor' or custom chapters of the original legions.

As for where I put this Poll, I considered putting it in the 40k Background but figured I want honest answers that extend to Modeling / Gaming to accommodate all wargamer styles. I hope it is correct

The only Chaos army I've ever been interested in playing is Emperor's Children. I find Slannesh the most interesting of the four gods and I've generally preferred the model aesthetics. The old styled sonic weapons and damonettes are particularly interesting.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

Dark Angels. They are the best traitors because they have fooled even the Inquisition into thinking they are still loyalists.

EC. Sex, drugs, and Rock'n'Roll.
Sonic weapons are very special. In the 3.5 ed codex, EC bikers had sonic blasters, too.

Night Lords. I always thought the entire concept of Chaos Marines was a lazy, goofy, competely nonsensical one, impossible to attach any meaningful character to. Then I read the Night Lords trilogy, and was blown away.

I'm really looking forward to reading ADB's Black Legion stuff.

Word Bearers are the perfect representation for chaos in general. Other legions/cults are either doing just one thing or focus on one god.

Never worn imperial eagle, but never truly chaos marines.

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it?

The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always."

-- First Captain Sevatar, when asked why the Night Lords aren't the Emperor's sanction force against other Legions

Night Lords.

I wanted to leave it open for the splinter forces such as The Purge ( Nurgle ) etc. As I explained in the post wanted to get a more accommodating result. Prime example I know of people who collect successors but don't find any appeal in their founding legions colour schemes or characters. For example, if you dislike Blood Angels but love Flesh Tearers.

Hmm I've actually been eyeing off the Night Lords omnibus for about 2 months now. I've always been very curious to read it but every time have found a reason to not throw down dollars. Might have to just go for it and see for myself !

That's fair enough. I will admit I myself have had a curiosity about Slaanesh, and the few all Slaaneshi daemon armies I've seen look awesome. The blurb in the current Daemons codex about a lone Knight making it through the various rings to reach Slaanesh's fortress a good insight into the many forms of temptation.

"Because we couldn't be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium.
He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds.
The World Eaters were not that weapon.
We've all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we've all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen.
We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted.
The Wolves obey, when we would not.
The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could.
They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher's Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves.
They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim.
But a wolf doesn't behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Iron Warriors. They're methodical siegemasters and Perturabo's Iron Cage was a masterful spite against the Imperial Fists. They're also the only other Chaos Legion (besides the Black Legion) that haven't completely devolved into bands of raving lunatics, but are just implaccable embodiments of hatred.

If we're just talking Legions, my favorite would have to either be the Death Guard or the Iron Warriors. If we're also counting Warbands, then the position is contested by the Crimson Slaughter and the Cleaved. I enjoy the lore and playstyle that all four groups would bring the tabletop, although I do wish there was more on the Cleaved other than that tiny little blurb in the CSM codex. Had to vote Death Guard though, as it was Nurgle and Plague Marines that got me into the tabletop to begin with.

I picked Alpha Legion, because they've deceived everyone into thinking that they're traitors, when they're actually loyalists. Probably....

I would've picked Black Legion, Night Lords or the Iron Warriors as well

Night Lords, but not because of the majority of the ADB books. They were good, sure, but they just lacked something. The Prince of Crows lacked it even more. I like them for the same reason I like the Red Corsairs. Tyrants that plunder and murder and yet in that chaos there is an order of a sort. Simple covenants that are followed by all.

Other than that though, I'm more into the 'modern' Warbands than the ancient Legions. I like the current 40k fluff far more than anything from the Heresy.

Ill agree, though I own numerous Heresy books I have only ever made it through the first 3. I just done find them nearly as alluring as the 40K novels.

I've heard that to properly understand some of the characters in the Iron Warriors omnibus, you must read the Ultra marines omnibus. Is this right ? Much like the Night Lords, ive been very tempted to buy some Iron Warriors books to get more depth.
