Depends on the sculptor. I find about 20% of Chapterhouse is terrible quality sculpts, about 70% is mediocre, and about 10% absolutely gorgeous.

So did the Storm Raven presale kits ship then? Looking forward to making mine.

For all of you who have ordered these kits I have recieved both of mine and have some first impressions and open box pics.

First let me say to everyone that I have never built either the Stormraven or the Chimera Kits so please if I am making mistakes please let me know. Al\so it should be known that these are pre-order kits. I do not know if the production kits will be better or worse.

Both kits (actually all three kits as I orderd 2 Stormraven kits and the Chimera Kit) came shipped in bubble wrap. In the box were some Chapterhouse business cards and a standard invoice. There were no instructions. Up until I unboxed these I neither cared or exopected any instructions. But looking at all the pieces on the Stormraven kit I can see how they could be very useful.

The Chimera Wheeled Kit.

This kit seems to be very good quality. The resin is top notch and the detail is great. I was particulary impressed with the wheels which are labeled left and right and have no flashing and amazing detail. The body pieces are also labeled but had some deep flashing but nothing even a novice hobbyist couldn't fix with a file or razor knife. I did have a few moments to test fit the sides body to my Chimera chassis and they will need some customizing to fit how I want them. Overall I am very happy so far.

Here is a picture taken this morning of the unboxed kit:

Stormraven Tru Scale kit.

This kit is made of the same resin as the Chimera which is to say very high quality. The pieces have a high level of detail which I am again impressed with.

My two kits have a lot of thin flashing. It's again nothing that a hobbyist cant handle but it is a bit off putting. Some of my kits did get mis-cast. Of special note is one of the elongated sides the resin did not get all the way to the bottom of the mold. I think I can fix it or that the piece would be hidden but if it had been one of my casts I would have thrown it away and re-cast it. I will contact Nick and see what he says.

Here are the un-boxing pictures.

Overall on both kits I am happy. I would have like to see some instructions and better quality control. In my past dealings with Chapterhouse they have put out a great product. You can see there use if you click the Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons link in my signature. I will update you all again once I get everything put together.

I'm thinking instructions would be nice, but maybe they'll have to wait until a certain legal matter is complete?

Perhaps someone could knock up a Chapterhouse kit assembly article on Dakka?

Thanks for the review.

I have to be honest here, I dont see any missing or miscast parts on those two photos you showed. Can you circle the problem areas? Im thinking you are mistaking sprue for the actual parts.

To be sure, I will look further into an online assembly manual, but we are somewhat limited legally on what it would show. Ill see what I can do.

That was what I thought too when I looked at the piccies, I think it's just the "gate" or whatever it's called at the bottom, not part of the actual piece.

Any update on the "True Scale Marine Kits" being added to the store?

Also, rumor has it that you're almost out of the 'plain' version - any idea on when they'll be re-stocked?

Thanks!

Received my Tru-scale Stormraven kit today - very similar to the piccies above - think it will look brilliant painted up!

I do second the call for an instruction manual for this kit (even a "fan-made" one) ASAP - I'm very wary of starting cutting up a SR "blind" (yep, I know there's a few photos around, but want to play it safe.)

I'd also really love to have some pictures of the construction process or at least side by sides of out of the box vs all flash and sprue removed parts on the Raven.

I have assembled my Stormravens and I know now why there are no instructions. The pieces fit perfectly and, what I feel obviously.

Note: you will need to cut off the strut on each of the engine pods before they will fit on the 'Raven. If you dry fit the engine/wing assembly it should be obvious what must be cut. I cut those off with a "bone saw". You will want them to be very flush with the engine.

I'll post some pics later today and/or tomorrow.

Instructions would still be helpful though.

But again, given the current and ongoing legal proceedings, I think we won't see any until that's all settled.

Oh wow! I hadn't been on the site for a while, so I hadn't seen these new kits. I have to way I'm impressed. I don't think I would want to do a Storm Raven without that simple but effective extension kit. it makes the thing look "right" in my mind!

That chimera kit. Sooo sweet. Honesty, I'm very tempted for them, and will likely pick up 2 or 3 in the next year. Very Very nice.

Just be sure to cut it and file it down too. The tolerances are very close. Let me tell you though I really like the end result. This is what the Stormraven should have looked like!

I would have liked something that covered the now useless Games Workshop stand hole. The new hole is in its proper place but the old "x" shaped hole is there. Looks like I will be making two stand covers out of plastic card.

Fill with GS and file? Thats my plan anyways.

Nick, any chance with maybe talking with Romeo at battlefoam to get a shape added for the CH Storm Raven? I'm going to need a few of them for games.

Any update on the availability of more 'generic' True Scale Marine kits?

I'd like to purchase a few more, along with one of those excellent Conversion Beamer kits!

I am filling the pre-orders on the Storm Raven kit at the moment, once I have that done and enough stock for the initial influx of orders the kit will be on the website.

The TS figures will be on the site eventually I have to think of a way to present them in a legally safe manner.

Once I get my built kit in I will be happy to show a size comparison photo of the two kits (unless one of the dakka/customers can do that first)

Back in the UK and hating it

Finally got my Chapterhouse stuff yesterday (thanks Canada Post a 2+ week strike is totally helpful - lazy blighters) and I'm really impressed.

The Chimera kits look great, and the casting quality of the Rhino parts seems to be much higher than the last ones I ordered so full marks!

Also the Tau walker is rather spiffy! Looking forward to getting that all cleaned up and assembled!

Still have to unpack the fermale IG models, time was very short last night.

Now can you turn a few so you can SEE the shoulder pads?

My only complaint with the conversion beamer, having gotten one, is that unlike most CH models this one had no flash cleaned off, so there was a ton of work to do to get it into a usable state. Looked good after that was done, and it was my only complaint with it.

I didnt think there would be a ton of work from the new cast. The film-flashwas wafer thin and I could peal it off with my fingers on most of the cast. Saying that I went for lower cost to produce and cast vs higher cost and a totally clean and ready to use cast in resin.

Im sure for 2-4$ per cast I can ask the caster to clean each piece, but this would also slow down production.
