Nice work on the Exarchs, Cap'n. I saw you mentioned these as being the "last 2" of the old metal Exacrhs - any chance of a group shot of those lost to the Path of the Warrior?

Thank you gobert, Cap'n Facebeard, muette, JoshInJapan, and ghostmaker for the comments, always more motivation to get the pile painted.

youwashock wrote:Web of Skulls had range in 2nd Ed. Multiple targets, too. Fairly deadly against lighter infantry. Add Fast Shot and an Exarch could evaporate a small unit of genestealers every turn.

Thanks youwashock, I never had a chance to play that option. Although when my Eldar showed up on the table (in third ed), they tended to dance around the table, moving fast to gang up on one side of my opponents Marines or Stealers. Reapers were just a little too slow to do that...and if they were in the center of my backline...while great for doing damage, they tended to die quickly.

theCrowe wrote:I always wondered about the reasoning behind a reaper exarch, having honed their craft over centuries on the path of the reaper, deadly in the art of long-ranged execution, finally ascending to pinnacle of the shrine’s exalted warriors, being relieved of their long range weapon and handed a cool web of skulls.
With which to presumably inspire mirth among the other reapers and keep them from getting too dreary in their darkling duties.

Maybe we talked about this before when you did a converted one…

Most likely it was sculpted first and the rules came later.

Yes theCrowe, you did flag that during the conversion of the two earlier Exarchs. youwashock has pointed out a way to use the model though.

Thanks Dysartes, almost there...two of the old metal Harlequin Avatars left...although I have been looking at Ironhands scratch built Eldar terrain with envy...I have located a large black drop sheet to do the photo.

Nice vibrant colors while also keeping a sense of menace with the dark cloaks, very nice.

Nice work, as always. I like your spot use of the diamond pattern on the lapel and one leg. The fade on the helmet crest is another nice touch.

I'm certain that I have asked you before, but what is your technique for the white masks?

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Lovely job Captain! Any chance of pics of the whole troupe now you’ve finished them?

JoshInJapan wrote:I'm certain that I have asked you before, but what is your technique for the white masks?

Josh,
I prime them white.
Then a coat of white.
Then a really thinned out mix of electric blue (the lightest blue I have) and white (1:3 ratio) and some water then use it like a wash.
Then thinned white to blend the blue/white mix.
Final highlight of white.
The blue background of the photos makes the blue more prominent.

OK, as an ode to Ironhands.com who does some of the best scratch built Eldar terrain I have ever seen (his username on DakkaDakka is also the name of his website - take a look).

My attempt at an Eldar tower.

Not really happy with the pins in the top layer...so I may take them out and try something else (ideas welcome).
Also, if anyone has large Tropicana lids...always looking to by more.

And the start of a landing pad.

That recipe for white seems like a lot of work. Of course, any white is a lot of work. I'll have to give it a try.

The tower looks pretty cool so far. I think you're right about the pins. Maybe replace them with nothing? We know from Star Wars that catwalks don't come with railings, after all.

That’s a super cool tower, I see why you want those Tropicana lids now! Josh might be right, and after all in the grim darkness of the far future there is no Health & Safety . Besides, Eldar are far to poised and elegant (and arrogant!?) to need safety aids, only their enemies are uncoordinated enough to fall off there.

Thank you JoshInJapan, gobert, and muette.

I have removed the pins completely.

Now it is a little monochrome...I want to make it quick to paint to be able to do several pieces. Eventually I have jewels to add, but not until painting is finished.

Any suggestions?

The second color really brings the piece to life.

How about doing the third floor "windows" as star fields?

That tower came out really nice. The shades of gray bring out a lot of the details.
