Ugh, why won't this franchise stay dead? After the ungodly handling of 1 & 2, I thought 3 was the worst they could do. I can see I was frightfully wrong.

Because it makes huge amounts of money

Its subjective - eg I thought the Res Evil animated films were absolutely awful but people feel they were more in keeping..................I absolutely loved 1 and 2 and enjoyed the others.

The first one is entertaining enough if you forget that it's supposed to be Resident Evil, but what a waste of a good franchise those films are. The movies don't even attempt to capture the atmosphere and tone of the games which is such a shame.

They would have done a better job recreating the feel of the games with a weaker protagonist... maybe a kid or someone middle aged or even elderly who hasn't shot a gun before. Give the movie a slower pace and make the setting an old dusty mansion... at least at the beginning. I don't know... I would have preferred an eerie horror movie or psychological thriller than the silly action films they threw together

I'm sorry, what? The animated films are ten times better than this hack. They have consistent characters, well done stories, and decent plot advancement. Sure, you could argue the art style is wonky, but that's in keeping with the art style of the game. The RE Mia movies are utter garbage, on par with the butchering that is the Silent Hill Movie.

Haven't they had a few mishaps while filming this one. ie a set guy crushed to death by a Humvee and the stunt woman having her arm taken off.

like I said Subjective unless you consider your opion to overide others?

I found the animated films poor and was horribly diapsointed, terrible charters, shockingly bad in fact - the art was fine - sub par for the genre but ok. friends felt the same for the most part. Res Evil live action has only passing relationship to the games - the first one was a joy to watch.

Oh and enjoyed both the Silent HIll game and the films

bet you like the (IMO) garbage that C.Nolan churns out as well? Each to their own.

That would be wonderful - Mila and Kate together - be still my beating heart.

Eh, I don't think my opinion overrides anyone elses, but I doubt I'd call it subjective. These films are pretty universally panned, but somehow still make money. I'd hardly call the Res Evil films a joy to watch, unless you're pretty detached from the source materials. Don't even get me started on the SH films, although the 2nd was way better and actually pretty true to the story, but never got a lot of recognition.

And I love C. Nolan's films. I'd hardly call the most successful Batman films "garbage".

Subjective: based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions

Pretty clear to me, we have diferent opinions. Apparently everyone who went to watch the films and enjoyed them is somehow "wrong?"

That anyone who feels that say Christpher Nolan is incapable of making anything other than a souless effects driven over long mess is also wrong. I think they are tedious crap but I acknowledge that many others like them for some reason.

Unversally panned ? By Critics - who cares - - I prefer to make my own decisions based on what i enjoy and have zero interest in anything they say or write.

Just watched the first animated film. It was alright, not something I'd recommend to anybody who isn't a fan of the games but it was entertaining enough. Probably about on par with the first movie and better than the rest of the movies. Cheesy dialogue like the game cut scenes, clearly made by the Japanese (good and bad elements to that) but I liked the animation, the plot was quite good and it was nice to have the same voice actors as RE2.

There wasn't quite as much daft stuff going on as the movies, but the bit where Leon was holding onto the edge of a platform with one hand (he would need to be strong to do that) while also holding the girl with his other hand (he'd have to be really, really strong!) who in turn has a G-virus monster that looked to weigh about a ton gripping her foot... I think you'd have to be a space marine to manage that

Wait, out of all the things in the movie, Leon's strength is what makes you doubt the film? Not any of the science involved?

Go re-watch RE1. It's exceedingly good, even if it's not as kid-friendly as 5E.

Exceedingly good? Which part? The part where they make a bit character the Main character? The part where they tack on a convoluted script? The part where it has almost no tie in to the existing universe? The only good thing was the special effects, and even those were average (the laser scene being the best).

I enjoy watching RE1 every few months, but is it exceedingly good? God no. It's a decent zombie movie, but a bad Resident Evil movie. It's fine for what it is, but don't confuse it as some kind of amazing horror masterpiece - it isn't.

And who brings science into any of these movies? It's about a hot chick killing fictional creatures. If you feel the need to berate the science behind creating monsters, I suggest you enroll in a science course to meet your needs instead.

If we look at all of the horror movies ever made, RE1 is in the top 20%. Easily.

It's no Alien (top 1%), but go to a video store and just look at the Horror section for the competition. Most of it is stuff you'd never waste your time even considering. Within genre, RE1 is very, very good.

The first one has the best DVD commentary I've ever heard, so I remember it fondly for that. There's a bit where the director's talking about colour filters used in the flashbacks or something, and Mila interrupts with "You just saw my nipple. How committed am I?", and he replies "If you were really committed, we'd have seen both of them."

The second one becomes much more tolerable if you imagine it as a fan-fic that got filmed. The author comes up with an OC who is based on an existing character (Wesker), but she's a hot babe and so totally original, stop flaming! She then stomps through the plot of the third game, accomplishing everything herself, warping the plot so that it's all about her, developing whatever powers the plot requires her to have, and making the canon heroine look like an incompetent idiot.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich."
