Subject: Eldar Homebrew Craftworld - Returning to 40k after a 7 year absence
|
 |
Nimble Mounted Yeoman

Hi All,
Finally got back into 40k after a number of years playing other rulesets (x-wing, fantasy, AoS etc.) and gone back to my 1st GW love Eldar.
I previously had a Biel Tan army but wanted something different this time round. I wasn't too keen on the traditional Eldar Craftworlds so decided to go a little off piste and come up with my own craftworld colour scheme. The end result is something close to the Blood Ravens chapter from the Dawn of War video game, however this wasn't intentional. It wasn't until after I had finished that someone pointed it out. Hey ho.
The 1st model I painted after my 7-year hiatus was the heavy weapon platform, and as you can see the paint hasn't aged well and I applied it too thick, future models shouldn't be this.... clumpy.
Hoping to update this blog as I (slowly) complete models and I welcome any comments and criticism that may help me become a better painter.
Enjoy
Paul

I like it, and good to see another Eldar plog about
Have you thought up any fluff for your craftworld yet? I've got a couple of ideas brewing but I've already settled on mine!

Mate love the colour scheme, the vyper especially looks great.
You could almost argue it's a Saim-Hann clan (their personal variant of the craftworld scheme).
Looks really nice for the first attempt after 7 years!
First tip - when I got back into it after a 10 year break (back in 2008), the one change that made the most difference to my painting was using a palette to thin my paints. Having that control over flow, amount on the brush etc made a massive difference. The thinner layers made the layering and highlighting look much, much smoother too.

That is high praise coming from someone who's eldar are infintely better painted than my own. Impressed by your work sir.
I've invested in a pallette and still experimenting with getting the consistency of my paints right. Hoping this blog will track my improvement over the years

Small update for my wee blog.
I spent the weekend re-doing the bases on my models. I wasn't happy with how plain they looked so added some rubble, rocks and static grass. Not golden Deamon worthy but it will do for me.
Now back to finishing that guardian squad

Awesome minis! Nice colour scheme and I like the highlighting. I think the finishing on the bases is especially good. You haven't lost your painting skills in those 7 years. I'm inspired to pick up the brush again after a similar time.

Small update.
Completed my 2nd guardian for the squad. Glued up the wrong arm before painting the gun so had to improvise.

Nice improv on the arm, I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it.

I like the clear green. Nice counterpoint to the red. Is there a reason why you only did some panels in the cream? Looks nice, just wondering about your thought process.
Looking very nice as a growing force.

To get the fire prism cannon green i used http://elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/paints-hobby-and-scenery-by-manufacturer/tamiya/tamiya-mini-acrylic/acrylic-mini-x-25-clear-green?d=22&gclid=COWyiNfJsNMCFcJAGwod824CHA on the inside of the clear crystal before gluing the 2 parts together. Same for the cockpits on the Fire prism itself and the Vyper.

Blood Ravens colour scheme is great, no shame in using a good set of colours Does the craftworld have some lore to go with?

Fantastic work. I love the colors, and how nice and smooth everything is. Gems are top notch, though painting that many of them must be a pain in the arse.
Thanks for sharing this with us! I'm excited to see more!
