Really liking the Tranquillity unit and display base Gits they look excellent on it. I think the amount of long grass is just right, it gives it the right feel while not being over the top.

Hi all!

Comp's over. Thing 1 did well with his heavy bolter scout, got some excellent suggestions from the judge and scored as well as he could have given the judging criteria and the fact that he didn't do any conversions. I got to meet and talk with a golden demon winner and a winner of national modeling/painting awards for historical miniature painting. So I had a good day too.

Since we've gotten back, I've thrown myself into a painting frenzy for what I'm doing for the boys for Christmas. Wish I could share it with you as some things are working out better than I'd hoped, but a number of Thing 1's friends are very internet savvy and I don't want to spoil the surprise.

How went your painting competion Git?

Didn't win, that's all I know. There weren't any "ringers" in the category this year... just a dozen entries. Single mini (sorceress I think) won. The disappointing thing wasn't that I didn't win, but the reason I entered in the first place was to show off the finished minis/units to the local 40k group which is quite large and has seen me go though the building process over the last two years... but almost none of them showed up. Just one or two. But the time I got with the experts was well worth the trip.

You should have got something, man. Best unit ever, I say.

Just the local folks fatty. Seeing things on line and holding them in your hand are two different experiences entirely. I got to see Roleplayer's Blood Angles last year in-person and even though I was an avid follower of his blog there was no comparison to actually holding them in my hand, turning them around, looking at them from all angles and seeing them in real color.

Hey vent! Good to see you again!

Well, now until Christmas I'll be completely tied up painting things for the young'uns that will be part of their Christmas gifts. So it's all Nids and Necrons for the next few weeks. Things are going well so far but I'm doing the low-hanging fruit first. We'll see how things go as I get to the harder stuff.

After Christmas I'll be getting back into the Mantis Warrior mood. Have a couple of swap marines to do, two 5-man squads of assault marines and a chaplain. OH, and some day I'll need to actually finish my land speeders... they're really not done, just presentable on the table.

Jeez, Gits. You are one busy man.

Tell me about it. Painting looses a lot of it's allure when you're compelled to go from project to project.

OH, and a suprise pic! (surprise to me too)

Graven did a Weeping Angel for me. So I based him up to match his comrades and he's ready to go. Had an issue with the grit so a bit more of his feet are hidden than I wanted, but looking at the bright side, I now know of a simple way to get small scale water effects! LOL


For those of you newer to the blog... my GMS marines will make up the tactical squads for my later-period (post crusade) Mantis Warriors Penitent army.
