As I'm sure many of you have heard Disney/Lucasfilm are meeting behind closed doors to figure out how to rewrite Episode IX where Princess/General Leia was supposed to play a key part. Some key drafts have leaked!

Scene 1
Luke: Where's Leia? She had a message for me.
C3P0: I'm sorry sir she just went into a meeting but she told me to tell you...

Scene 13
Poe: I need to speak to Leia!
Luke: darn it, she just took off for the junkyard planet to get some supplies, can I help you?

Scene 27
C3P0:Where is General Leia? She should be here for this briefing!
Flynn: There she is (points off screen), Hi Leia! (waves)

Scene 34
Flynn: Leia there you are!
Muffled voice: Sorry about the full biohazard suit, I was exposed to Keira's Disease and don't want to risk infecting you

Scene 45
Rey: Darn it, we need Leia's help!
Luke: here she comes!
Rey: where?
Luke: There! She's piloting that X-Wing with the completely opaque canopy, I can sense her!

Scene 50
Flynn: At last we've infiltrated Death Star VI! Lucky thing you still had the bounty hunter armor Leia!
Boushh: Indeed, they will never suspect it's actually me.

Scene 65
Luke: So tragic, she has completely succumbed to Keira's disease.
Leia: Alas, now I am cursed to look, sound and act like Keira Knightley for the rest of my days.

Spoiler:
Too soon?

Nothing even to do with her being a celebrity. They buried her yesterday. A little respect for those passed? Way too soon.

No, not too soon.

I was aiming to more make fun of the poor screenwriters, I didn't really make fun of Carrie Fisher. Ah well.

No, not too soon.

I am often reminded of the story about 60s satirist Tom Leher. After Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize he retired simply saying "I can't top that".

No, not too soon.

Indeed... While I would ordinarily have thought this sort of thing so soon was a bit tacky, I very strongly suspect that Carrie herself would have found it amusing.

On a serious note, I hope that they do not change ep 8 at all to have her die at the end so that they don't have to deal with it in 9.
Not only would that be too "systematic" story-wise (Han dies in 7, Leia in 8, then maybe Luke in 9, etc), but more importantly, it dishonors the actor's last work, in which their performance was given assuming the character's survival.

At the same time, Leia's death needs to be on screen. None of this "Leia has died" in the ep 9 opening crawl nonsense!
You can easily set up a situation that results in Leia's death in the opening that minimizes how much we see her, yet maximizes her impact on the events of the movie.

Well, I know others disagree (and fair enough) but for me, Tarkin in Rogue One was just the right end of Uncanny Valley for me - to my eyes older, more careworn faces are more convincing with that CGI.

So, provided it suits the story, and isn't simply done 'because we can', I'd personally be OK with a CGI version of General Organa - provided her estate is cool with it.

But as I've said on other forums, Disney is proving nothing if not a safe pair of hands for the franchise, so I'm confident they'll approach it with respect and common decency.

Given it'll probably be a remake of episode V they could just have her caught and killed on Hoth by the invading Empire forces. As they fly away;

"Where's General Organa?"
"I'm sorry... she didn't make it"

The rest of the film will be the girl getting trained by Luke on a remote planet, the other good guys being chased around by star destroyers and everyone meets again int he final third (when Lando reappears) before someone gets frozen in carbonite

That would be a much more credible argument if we weren't talking about someone whose funeral was one last opportunity to make a joke. When you're having your remains buried in a giant prozac pill it's a pretty clear statement that you aren't treating death as a solemn and respectful event.

(And really, the whole "treat people with respect because they're dead" thing is highly overrated. If I don't respect someone in life I'm certainly not going to start respecting them just because they finally did something good for the world and departed it.)

I think poor taste is the wrong phrase. Poor taste would be Kid Kyoto saying "I wish Fisher burns in hell" or "I hope her death was painful".

Dark humour is certainly a very subjective type of humour; I personally am not a fan of it unless it is well executed (i.e. it's come from Frankie Boyle's mouth [NSFW warning]). However, it is far from poor taste as it is typically written in insincerity, as well as being tactful in the sense that it is being delivered in an environment where it would be acceptable. If Kid went to Fisher's funeral and said this, then we can talk about it being poor taste, but even then, as Peregrine noted, it seems like Fisher wanted a sincere event to be entertaining.

Again, IMHO making fun of Princess Leia/Star Wars is not the same thing as making fun of actual human being Carrie Fisher.

What is uncanny valley? I wish they had tried to use a bit more clever camera work with Tarkin, as good as the CGI is you can still see it's not real. And that's the end affect - it just looked like a cut scene from a well produced video game. Why not a few more profile shots or make more use of the reflection shot at the start? Everyone knows who Peter Cushing is from the first Star Wars, it didn't need those full frontal shots I didn't think.

It's a shame because the rest of the physical, prop-based effects in the film were so good.

It's where the creepiness of something spikes as it gets closer and closer to perfect realism, then drops again once it gets there. A cartoon is unrealistic but doesn't feel creepy because it's clearly intended to be stylized. Bad CGI feels a bit off, but is still stylized enough not to be too uncomfortable. Good CGI that falls just short is uncomfortable because we know something subtle is off, but can't really place it. Then obviously real people are just fine because everything looks right.

As noted, there's a graph that plots the realism/freakiness factors with animation. There's a trough in the between ALMOST real enough and CLOSE ENOUGH THAT YOU CAN'T TELL. It's the zone where it's close, but something is off. Usually, the can get the skin textures right, and the flexibility/creasing right, but the eyes aren't quite "wet" enough and it looks wrong. That sort of thing. We've got an inbuilt shy-away-from reaction to things that look a little too real.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
