Now, the Rem 700 is a superb rifle, I'm rather fond of mine. I just have one question, what do you plan on doing with a shell? Having the entire round would be far more beneficial, even if it is just one. (splitting hairs...as always)

Depending on how bad of a shot he is, he may need a round...

Among my Rednecks tribe, shell and bullet are interchangeable terms to refer any form of rifle projectile.

And won't you feel lucky to find a reliable bolt-action with 5 magazines, 4 rounds each, and 199 rounds?

I was thinking the other day that a hardware store like lowes or home depot would be an AMAZING place to hole up in...

Tone of building materials, generators, stuff for making bunkers. Have various chemical you can make all sorts of fun things out of!

plus few entrances in and out depending on store type.

This actually isn't a "bad" idea...much better than the " I'll hold up inside a Wal-Mart" variety.
Aside from having to stockpile food/water/ammo (which would have to be done in any location) the only drawback I see is that most Lowes/Home Depots are still located in or around population centers.

i would drive all the way to my aunt in the country and work on her farm for 5 years and wait for it to be contained before going back to society!

I don't think that would work , wouldn't you fortify the house and turn it into a small base. You're going to need allies as well.

He has his aunt. Depending on how good she is with a Semi-Auto rifle, she could be an ally.

I'm just basing this off of various zombie films/books I've seen/read (obviously)...but the generaly accepted (fictional) view is that the best thing to do with neutralized zombies is simply to burn them.

I've noticed a lot of "get the hell outta dodge" statements made, which is good, but how are you going to go about it? In such a panic, all major and most minor roadways will be packed in a gridlock the likes of which LA has never seen. So go on and consider that.

This is the major problem with my plan,as I live extreamly close (like 5 minutes) from Atlanta,and the Highways and Interstates are a fething nightmare even in the best of circumstances...let alone if the area were to be besieged by walking dead canibals...

The only solution I've been able to come up with would be to pull up stakes and run at the first signs of things going "wrong" and travel by using back roads to my "safe zone" ( five hours away) which thankfully can be reached (once away from the Metro Atlanta area) by traveling through (or around) areas that are not very populated.

Still a gamble...but defiantly better than hanging around one of the largest cities in the South.

You're in Wales, you should adopt a similar plan to mine:
Head as quickly as possible for Anglesey!

Small Island, relatively low native population, as far as I'm aware there are only 2 roadways on/off the island (and they are both bridges).

With a small team of people it should be quite easy to sweep the island and eradicate the zombie population entirely. Take out/barricade both of those bridges and unless zombies learn to use boats you are infection-free.

Large enough land-mass and abundance of coastline (read 'tasty, tasty fish') creates a self-sustaining colony for a few hundred people.

It's essentially the plan from 'Day of the Triffids' (book, not movie) except with a different island, though the Isle of Wight would be a good idea for those in the south of England.

I live on the 3rd floor in a flat with concrete floors and walls, firm hardwood door with three locks, and enough stored food and homebrewed booze to last a year. Failing that its a harbour town so its down the docks to pinch a boat, head out to the nearest island and hope they arent infected over there
