Yeah, totally. I almost cried. I was on a the verge of not even sending them to Ifalna because I almost couldn't get the things together true story.

And yes, the big birds standing on tip-toe like that is pretty ignorant. At least they aren't as bad as CSM raptors.

I used to have trouble with the really oldschool ork stormboyz with the enormous metal jump packs - they were forever rolling down hills - sometimes plastic really is the way forward.

eldar look sweet. Did you just airbrush the blue or did you figure out some way to mask off areas and do other colors? Automatically Appended Next Post: oh and has the mug arrived yet?

It did Weety, posted on Fb too He loves it, I will get some shots of him chugging coffee from it.

I used to stick 2p coins under models back in the day, that helped out a lot with ones that had terrible balance.

Fire dragos done, 5 hours for this unit, still crazy fast for me. Attempt 2 with airbrush. Tried out shading and colour fading. I feel these are way better than the first attempt but that might be just personal preference. I got the eyes done properly and did some more Tron-esque edge highlighting! What I learned from this group was that I need more of a colour clash when airbrushing armor. The swooping hawks had no real distinction as the highlight and base colour I used were far too similar and I did not wash between coats. With these I chose 3 varying tones of red and it turned out much nicer, but next time will definitely call for washing between coats and not afterwards as I don't like the effect it gave.

Tabletop standard again, 5 hours -

These are 0.5, I have a 0.3 but want to get used to the medium one first. I don't want to have to rely on the tiny needle for mass painting tabletop standard which I know will happen if I start working with it too early.

Dee and Jin, thanks kindly! I want to get transitions down as soon as possible so I am starting to practice with them straight away. It was great to get a solid red like that, working it with a brush would be so time consuming.. this kind of feels a bit like cheating :(

I was going to go with a dark grit base for them, but when I started working on the swooping hawks some were already painted and the bases were green flock. I assumed that meant that the rest of the painted models of this army had green flock bases too, so went ahead with it so they would all match up in the end when they get home Would be super easy to change though, so I will give Coldfire a poke and see what he wants.

Tonight was a disaster :( Started on the rangers, they were looking nice and I was happily working on them untill their badab wash dried.. white. The pot seemed fine, it had been shaken, it was near empty but even then I can't see why this happened. I binned the pot, but the rangers so far are ruined as they have lovely black fade grey cloaks with freaking chalky white recesses, so I have to repaint most of them. Angry!

  chalky white recesses
Interesting as this has happened to me too on more than one occasion, and I mix up my own washes useing vallejo glaze meduim. I have always wondered why it happens sometimes and not other times. Thought it was maybe getting the mix wrong or drying time fluctuations.

Yeah I'm dreading posting the scouts now as they are so bland comparatively They are meant to be dark and sneaky but the fire dragons make them look so freaking simple.. I will try to jazz them up with some red gems and lenses which might help them out. Then again I can't make them too bright, oh the complexities!

@ Wazzdig Dagga - I don't understand why it happened either. No moisture changes, they weren't coated in anything odd, it was applied as normal, it just dried terribly :( Overnight has made no changes to it either.

@ Xenon - turns out the ones with flock bases were not actually the owners, hah! So no problem, will be re-basing everyone with a dark grit like on the karskin sarge in my gallery. The grey should help pop the highlights and colouring.

@ monkeytroll - They could just be a fluke, I am so new with the airbrush that replicating them might turn out to be hilarious, but I need to anyway as there is a second unit to go! Was thinking of actually trying to block off the heads on the second unit and giving them yellow helms with the same kind of fade. Will be an experiment to say the least..

The airbrush I got was http://cgi.ebay.ie/PRECISION-GRAVITY-FEED-AIRBRUSH-KIT-AB-183K-/380301070071?pt=UK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH&hash=item588bb5cef7 which has so far had no problems at all. Today I am going to go get some methylated spirits to help clean it though, I had heard windex/windowlene was a good cleaning agent for them but it is not shifting the paint on mine at all. I got some surgical non powdered latex gloves in a pharmacy too, and some WD-40 would not go amiss when it comes to helping the dual action trigger stay smooth. I will post a super simple tutorial for it when I am sure I am practised with it enough that I can replicate results. Posting one now would just be pictures of me wearing dodgy gloves completely covered in red and blue while trying to fiddle with a super complicated piece of machinery I am still learning about.

Fingers crossed for having the scouts done for tonight, going out for dinner could delay them a little.

Re: white residue - I've experienced this once before, though it wasn't too much of a disaster for me, thankfully. Did seem like a non-trivial number of people experienced this issue, though (definitely talked with some people at Dakkacon who mentioned the issue)

Re: Airbrush - yay! Was going to ask that same question. These Fire Dragons are making me want to look into an airbrush for myself.

Heres a quick WIP shot of the rangers. Camera had difficulties with this amount of black and I won't be tinkering with it or more shots right now as they are WIP anyway ><

Gems and guns are done, cloaks are pretty much done though their lovely airbrush blend to grey was ruined by the crappy badab incident.. Need their skin, hair, and all baubles done and they should be good to go. Spent far too long on these already due to needing to repaint the suckers.

I had a lot of difficulty adding hardline highlights to these guns, it's not something I ever did before. After a "tad" of failure on the first couple I went with adding the lines more like reflective streaks and I think it worked out. Hopefully these wont end up too bland.

Those Fire Dragons are just stunning! I really like the guns on the Rangers. Great color.

Darn all you peoples with airbrushes. I want one but I can't afford it. Although I doubt I could pick it up as fast as you have Ifalna. Beautiful work!

									Lol

The scouts look beautiful - just the right amount of subtlety and camouflage balanced by the nice red gems and the guns look really cool. The pressure to paint some 1989 eldar in fluorescent yellow as a counterpoint is growing in me...
