At your communities do you guys play 750, 1000, 1500, 1850, 2000 (or are you guys an oddball who plays any intermediates/power level)????

Generally 400, 500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000 but 400 has never struck me as oddball. YMMV

How do the 400pt games usually go? I'm sure you can get more than a few done in a short period of time.

We mostly play 2k in my area but I'm not adverse to playing anything from 1k up.

I still like 1250, big enough that you can spread your legs beyond basic troops, small enough that you avoid the bs spam usually

2000 points. If we could get more games in and played faster respectively, we'd do more points, but so far 2000 is enough to have a proper amount of models on the table.

On the other hand we also do Kill Team.

It's usually 2k, sometimes 1800 or 2500, but usually 2k.

I was an a fan of 2,000pts as a normal sized game. As time has gone on and I find myself with less free time to play and paint I am thinking of switching to either 1,500 or 1,000 as my go too size.

This also allows me to collect several smaller forces and get a good variety of play styles, as I will settle on the force and stick to that.

Anyway, we play almost exclusively 2k.

250+ kill-team with Heralds of Ruin, 500-1000 Zone Mortalis and 1000-2000 on "normal" games.

1500 seems to my most played range. I've never gone below 750 (Although i am a new player). Do you guys find these lower point games refreshing?

I find lower point games are generally way more rock-paper-scissors, just because you have less tools. This is exacerbated when people bring spam lists, but it's still a problem if you're building a true take-all-comers list without souping in the cheapest stuff from the most undercosted ally.

I play mostly 2000 points. But escalation leagues are fun, and so are big games where you throw 4,000 points on the table and go at it.

My group would usually do 750 pts (1k max rarely). We liked being able to fight multiple battles {3+} in a single afternoon. It was also nice because we could switch between factions frequently. Sometimes we'd even do a 2v2 situation = 1500pts per team (Necrons+SW vs Orks+Eldar) but this obv. took longer.

Since it was a "gaming house" with friends and matches were short, we'd also allow for plenty of testing (trying out models we didn't own or might want to buy in the future): "Since you're playing 'Nids, can I use your Space Wolf Razorback as a Basilisk/Trukk?"

Hell, my friend once fielded a 750pt Tau army using only Eldar models and because it was 750 points he got to play a few quick matches "as Tau". It helped him decide what army he wanted to invest in and perked his interest in general.

Do whatever allows you to have the most fun

1,500-2,000...but I prefer 1,500 for a simple one on one game I think.

My group does mostly power levels. Around the 2000 point range.

My group is doing 1,000 pts. We're a bit short on both terrain and table space though, so much more then that tends to lead to wipe-outs by turn two.

We're planning on trying different points levels though, once we have more terrain and a bigger table. 1K, 1250, 1,500, 1850, 2K down the road. We have the models for it.

50-100 PL

I like 2k, anything smaller seems trivial to me.

Anything from 1k to 2k, depending on how much time we have and how big a playing area.

2k feels like the 'real' game though.

1850 to 2000 is the norm.

100PL

2k used to be the norm; but lately weve been hitting the 1k level and enjoying getting more games in.

1500 or 2000 If we feel we have the time and the players have the options

My local group pretty much always play 2000 points because that is what tournaments do. Heck, my first 1500-point game(s) in 8th edition were in the Adepticon Friendly last Friday.

I have mostly played at 2k, but with the amount of rerolls on rerolls on rerolls, the games take forever.

I have swapped to 1,500 and find it far more enjoyable.

We usually play 1500 point games. You can make a pretty strong army, but games don't take forever and cheese is somewhat limited


We've been toying around with "40k in 40 minutes" games/tournaments. 550pts and 1 Dettachment (mandatory Patrol), 1h time limit (not counting setting up)
