"I saw the devil". A south Korean movie about a sadistic serial killer and the cop chasing him. An absolutely miserable movie I can recommend to masochists only. A brutal murderer kills a cops girlfriend and the cop tracks him thru a a series of murders. The movie is depressing, unrelentingly miserable and physically revolting. Revolting scene described.
Spoiler:
In one scene a man has a tracker slipped into his stomach, so he takes a laxative, takes a massive dump and proceeds to go thru the huge fecal log with his bare hands to find the bug, shown in far too much detail.
Some may praise this movie for daring to go pitch black. If that's your thing, go for it.
"I learned the hard way that if you take a stand on any issue, no matter how insignificant, people will line up around the block to kick your ass over it." Jesse "the mind" Ventura.
Is this for really depressing or disturbing movies, like In the Company of Men or House of Sand and Fog? Or movies that totally fail to live up to any hype, like Joe Gould's Secret or Love Song for Bobby Long?
For another good, disturbing movie that will make you feel uncomfortable, Fat Girl (a French film also known as To My Sister). The whole film is messed up in various ways, but the ending is unforgettable. On the other hand, most movies would probably be darkly satisfying with Fat Girl's ending.
Watched Pacific Rim 2 last night and was pretty disappointed. I quite liked the first one and I'm a big fan of the genre as a whole but the movie just never worked for me on any level. :(
I saw The Fountain shortly after it came out in 2006. The trailer was incredibly deceptive. It appears to be a movie about a conquistador discovering the fountain of youth, and subsequently living forever. Look at the trailer:
Spoiler:
What's it actually about? A guy coming to grips with his wife's terminal cancer.
There were 3 people in the theater - me, my wife, and some other rando. As we left, the other dude turned to us casually and said "well, that was some bs".
He wasn't wrong.

Agree. PR1 was dumb but fun and entertaining, PC2 was just dumb.
This might have been the most disappointing movie of last year, but it was also so forgettable that the Predator easily slid into that spot for me.

IMO, truly terrible movies/TV are entertaining in their own right. Manos: The Hands of Fate, for example. Awful movie, but well worth watching.
The original Prisoner Cell Block H (Wentworth, now) had cell walls that visibly shook when doors were closed and dialogue that Dan Brown would consider 'clunky', but it was amazing TV.
The worst are completely mediocre, forgettable movies. So, 95% of what plays in cinemas.

This is bar none one of the worst movie experiences of my life. My wife and I had just gotten engaged and I had quit my job and moved to where she lived and started a new one. Around that time her brother passed away after a hard fight with a brain tumor. Shortly into the new job we took a department outing to see... The Fountain and not knowing what it was about I was just a shell trying not to crumble in the middle of my new team. It was easily one of the most torturous things I've ever felt forced to sit through.

I was also not a fan. What a lot of fanfare for a perfectly Disney message..... blah.

The Last Jedi = Dull, pointless, boring, terribly plotted, badly acted and written - it was a complete waste of my time and money seeing it.
Inception - See above, except luckily Ididnt see it at the cinema so no money wasted - just time.
Scream movies - bad, fake ironic torture porn. Hated it.
Thin Red Line = Tedium
Human Centapede - look at the synopsis - understand why not to watch it.
Forest Gump - not bad just very very depressing.

This is actually pretty much what happened with me and First Man. The difference is, First Man is an objectively good movie - I'm not going to dispute that. But it turns out I don't really know that much about Neil Armstrong. I'm going to spoiler this next part even though these are public facts about a man famous for something that happened before I was born...
Spoiler:
because the thrust of the movie wasn't actually about the moon landing. I mean, it was, obviously. But the space race, the moon landing - these are almost a backdrop to the real story, which is about a man driven by grief. He's so driven by grief that is so all-consuming he wants to get off the damn planet.
Turns out Neil Armstrong had a young daughter who died of a brain tumor. All throughout the movie, there are flashbacks to Karen Armstrong, the little blonde girl who so closely resembled my wife's daughter, who also died young. We hadn't watched any trailers for the movie because I heard it was good, so we planned to see it, and maybe it wasn't even touched on in the trailers, but long story short we spent about 2 hours with my wife crying on and off quietly next to me (and refusing to leave every time I asked if she wanted to).
I definitely wish I had known that before we had gone to it - I try pretty hard to avoid movies that I suspect are going to press her buttons but I walked blindly into this one.

The Talented Mr Ripley. I saw this in theatres. Part-way through the film, it burned through. I thought it was just the way the movie ended and actually started getting up to leave. (Ex) Girlfriend insisted it wasn’t over. A minute or two later, the movie restarted and I wasn’t the only person to audibly exclaim, “Ah, for feth’s sake.” At least 3 other people said it at the same time.
Later, there’s a fade to black that lasted a second longer than one would expect, and in that second I started to stand... and the movie kept going. I was not the only person to say, “Oh come on!” Out loud.
When the movie finally does end, it does so in an unnecessarily dark way. It’s absolutely the worst film I’ve ever watched from terrible pacing, gak-bag characters, unrelatable premise... just completely terrible.
(PS: Watch it, as a dare. See if you can make it through the whole movie. )

As to the human centipede, there's an old klingon saying "this need not be said. " seriously, that movie would make orks throw up internal organ.
I kinda respect Forrest gump. It was a hit when rush limbwugh bad his tv show and he did a parody of it in some segments called "bill gump" where he mocked bill Clinton. After a few segments the owner of the Forrest gump property sent him a cease and desist order as he did not want his character used for hateful purposes. Limbwugh folded like an accordion storage facility. So I bave a soft sport for Forrest gump.

Not even Kate Beckinsale in tight latex outfit can save these from the brink.
Nah, the first two are actually a decent pair of films if you're a fan of Vampire: The Masquerade and can ignore the cheesiness. They're very, very niche films.
The Hobbit Trilogy isn't worth watching at all unless you have a thing for red haired elves and strangely attractive dwarves.
The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy

Hands of Manos, Any of the older transformer films by Michael bay. You could literally put a black screen with transformer noises and you would get the same effect.
I would also say that a movie to absolutely avoid is Home Alone 4... You think I am joking?! Yeah, it exists. It is horrible. DO NOT WATCH.
