How do!
This thread is brought to you by a moment in Stranger Things 3, fond memories of my Star Wars Technical Books, and the model kits advertised therein.
See, in the early 90’s was when I first encountered them. Large scale, highly detailed kits of movie monsters, and stuff from Guyver etc.
Yet in recent times? Nope. Not heard a peep about them!
A brief Google shows one can still lay hand upon them - but not whether they’d actually being produced, or if they’re just old and dusty stock!
I’m particularly keen to get some Guyver ones, simply because the designs are just sooooo damned sweet. But also interested in learning the history of the medium.

Sadly, Funko pop kinda killed alot of the vinyl model stuff.
There used to be a huge vinyl figure collection scene, Funko caused it to dry up.

Vinyl kits will never go out of fashion. Send SASE for catalog.

In all seriousness, they seem to have been coopted by more mainstream model makers, like Pegasus Hobbies and Bandai. However, 3D printing might be the spiritual successor you are looking for. Check out Ouze's P&M thread, for example.

It isn't all that bad. I mean they do have a Ron Swanson figure, after all.

There's still resin garage kits around, but 3D printing is the new vinyl kit for the most part. Even the garage kits are usually resin casts of 3D printed masters, Plastic Cretins did a great line of hand-sculpted resin MOSPEADA Invid/Inbit models to go with the 1/48 plastic Legios kit, but he bought a Form2 printer a few years ago, taught himself 3D modeling and now solely produces 3D prints to order (mostly Macross nowadays) instead of casting them in resin.
I'm part of a Halo Ground Battles group and there's a lot of people sharing 3D files and printing stuff for both themselves and others to keep the game alive. Microsoft, for all their faults, is completely open and supportive of people making and sharing such 3D files so long as they are modeled from scratch and not ripped from the game files
There's also a LOT of Battletech 3D models out there, mostly printed from modified MWO game files, which have the same rules as Halo 3D model files but aren't as widely enforced.
Funko has eaten into the market, but so has Sideshow Collectibles and WETA and some others as nerd culture has become more mainstream. The vinyl and resin kits I do see now are usually out of Japan and are usually low production runs.

Does Plastic Cretins have any Invid designs roughly in scale with RTT or like 1/144? Automatically Appended Next Post: Ahtman wrote:

I don't think so, he did some Alphas and Betas in 1/285 and some Southern Cross Veritech Tanks and Bioroids, but no Invid that I know of
