Warner Bros. has announced their latest slate of animated DC films.

During a screening for Batman: Hush at San Diego Comic Con, Warner Bros. unveiled what they have have planned for their DC animated films in 2020.

2020 will see the release of two animated Superman films, the first being Superman: Red Son. Superman: Red Son is an Elseworlds story written by Mark Millar which saw baby Kal El land in mid-1950s Russia instead of Kansas. Instead of growing up to be a symbol of truth, justice, and the American Way, Kal fights for communism.

Later in the year another standalone film called Superman: Man of Tomorrow will be released. This would make 2020 the first time where the studio has released two animated Superman-centered films in the same year.

According to the press release from DC Entertainment, Superman: Man of Tomorrow will be a fully original story featuring a young Superman early in his career.

In between Red Son and Man of Tomorrow, Warner Bros. Animation will release Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. The film will be a follow-up to 2017’s Justice League Dark. Plot details on that are scarce, but based on the title it is possible that they’re basing it off of Geoff Johns’ Darkseid War.

Earlier this year it was announced that future DC animated films will come with a few animated shorts based on popular DC characters and stories like Sgt. Rock and Batman: Death in The Family.

Interesting. Their animated fare is usually rather good (not you, Batman Ninja)

Yeah, I buy every animated DC movie...except that filth that was Batman Ninja. So frigging stupid. Seriously looking forward to Hush so I can complete the Killing Joke, Hush, Red Hood trilogy (for non comic readers, and Red Hood non viewers, Hush leads directly into UtRH, which references Batgirl’s crippling in KJ). So bring on the last bit of the trilogy!! My $20 bill is ready!!

And Red Son is an amazing Superman Elseworld’s story. Can’t wait for either one!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Batman Ninja had some cool character designs, and nothing else. It amazes me how watching that movie it got to a point where I was like ok, this is really dumb. But the movie kept getting dumber! Just repeatedly topping itself! Truly amazing in its sheer levels of awfulness.

Need to watch Hush.

I found the animated stuff to be pretty hit or miss. When it's good it's REALLY good (Gotham by Gaslight). WHen it's bad it's cringy... The weird titans movies. Just... why?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I lost interest when the Batmobile was shown to be a Russian Doll.

I am hoping Hush gets the under the Red Hood treatment where they really improve upon the original story.

Hush the comic.... kind of a bad story. It's a big mystery. Who is Hush?! Who could it be? Is it the only original character introduced in the story? OMG IT'S THE ONLY ORIGINAL CHARACTER INTRODUCED IN THE STORY!

Red Son is the closest thing to a “proper” superhero comic I’ve ever bought. Looking forward to this.

I just finished watching Hush. It’s really good. I’ve not read the original comic, but I work in a comic shop so I know the gist of it. The way they adapted it to the animated universe is quite well done.

I was collecting comics when Red Son was first previewed and ended up getting the comic after it came out (years later iirc) and it wasn't as great as the initial previews made it out to be. Regardless, I'm curious to see how the animated version turns out. I don't actually remember if I still have the hardcopy.

So. nobody's going to say the obvious? It falls to me once again? Sigh. Fine.

Spoiler:
Why don't you just put the whole WORLD into an ANIMATED MOVIE, Warner Bros.?

Darn. Tooting.

Barring Batman Ninja, I’ve enjoyed all the animated stuff I’ve seen.

God that one was so bad. Just... so very very bad. But yeah, the rest of their animated line has been really good. I even enjoyed the dumb funny Batman Harley one that a lot of others didn’t. Looking forward to Red Son, I’ve never actually read that story though I’m quite aware of it.

Looks good, hopefully it doesn't fall apart at the end like the last couple of Batman adaptations have.

DC and Marvel have almost always been opposites when it comes to animated features. Outside of Spectacular Spiderman, Wolverine and the X-Men and Marvel's Earth's mightiest heroes, Marvel never had much as far as animated offerings went, and for movies? I can't think of one off the top of my head that wasn't beyond okay. Meanwhile DC has juggernauts like the entire DCAU, and all the pre-52 stuff. I am really looking forward to Red Son and honestly, if they had just transferred some of the ideas over to live action (looking at you Suicide Squad, it should have just been basically what Assault on Arkham was) they wouldn't have to deal with the BvS and JL fumble before they changed gears.

Speeding Bullets was always my favorite Batman/Superman Elseworlds tale, but I heard good things about this one.

I feel that with Superman, they need this more.

He’s such a sickening goodie two shows, we as the audience get more out his ‘What Ifs’ than other characters.

true but its also on the live action misfiring on portraying the big boy scout, Marvel proved you can make a dudley do-right interesting with Cap, the misery hose DC have sprayed on everyone bar Khal Fishbloke makes everyone, even lubberly Wonder Gal, unlikeable , although the Elseworlds where the Waynes find baby Supes would be another excellent What If
