I don't know, he is a CSM, it makes him look a bit more... old or tainted or something. CSM look better to me rough.

Big fan of your work, and that head looks cool. The rough paint lines contribute to the feeling that he's a warrior with centuries (don't know the fluff, so don't know his age) of battles behind him. The one and only thing that I don't like is his right eye. The left looks like a proper eye, but the right pupil is elongated and facing in another direction. Lufgt HURRon ftw.

I don't paint eyes, so I respect you for even managing to pull that off.

Looks a little on the yellow side to me is that just the picture or maybe my screen ? Aside from that great stuff.

the yellow is due to the tungsten lighting in my room... i usually use a daylight bulb the top pic is most true to the actual colour though it's still a tad yellowy... there'll be better pictures as i progress with the model

@ shingouki good luck! post some pics on this thread when you've painted some. if you want some tips feel free to PM me

i said i'd try to up my game a bit and i've started to try some new techniques... i've had a play round with some smoother blending on the lower left leg as can be seen in the pictures bellow

the best bit about the model are the weapons! just look at the heavy flamer, and even better, the the power claw with his real hand inside!!

At the risk of repeating the the general replies here, outstanding very much looking forward to seeing this one develop. Also any more of those lovely marines of yours to show us? I'm a sucker for well painted marine especially if it's not one of the more mainstream chapters.

cool model, but PLEASE CLEAN THOSE MOLD LINES!!!!!! I see the hand and parts on the model weren't properly cleaned and my own anal rententiveness got the better of me.

I know this is a strange thing to compliment on, but I really like that rock. Did you paint that rock, or did it come like that?

I think the rock was painted, because the forge world one has a grey plastic rock under it.
It is quite well painted

Awesome work SoO, the armour looks like cast in marble or stone, that's pretty amazing!!!

Also, thanks for pointing out the "real" hand within the Lightning Claw, I had overlooked such a tiny detail on the FW website... Great idea!!!

Hits_the_spot wrote:Looks great, Really like the white. Whats the build up?

the model was undercoated white and given a wash of thinned down black to bring out the detail. the armour (which i've done so far) was base coated with watered down astronomican grey small amounts of white were added until the shade was almost white. the main tip is many coats of thin paint with gradual colour change. the paint chips and scratches were a mixture of scorched brown and black and for the streaks i used the same mix but heavily thinned with acrylic paint thinner.

Bossasaurus wrote:wow... i never realized how Greek that model is. How do you get the GD look? I can do clean high table top stuff but nothing with that 'look'.

take a lot of care and thin you paints and use lots and lots of coats! gradual change in shade are key. if you get white dwarf try some of the 'Eavy metal advanced tutorials, they're absolutely brilliant to boost technique! and have a look at/join some purely miniature painting forums.

Sageheart wrote:that model does look amazing, and i love the white! is that a forgeworld model, correct?

yup

Empchild wrote:cool model, but PLEASE CLEAN THOSE MOLD LINES!!!!!! I see the hand and parts on the model weren't properly cleaned and my own anal rententiveness got the better of me.

Dude don't crap yourself... i'll get to that soon... plus the black wash has brought out some very fine ones i hadn't seen previously which (trust me) is a good (though annoying) thing. in future don't state such blatant things as mold lines especially when i said i'd seen them lol... anyway what do you think of the painting so far? i guess no comment is good??

crazypsyko666 wrote:I know this is a strange thing to compliment on, but I really like that rock. Did you paint that rock, or did it come like that?

the rock was sprayed white and simply washed once with a brown colour which i subtly changed by adding black during painting.

Thanks for the comments everybody

The downside to white is that when you go close up it never looks as smooth as we would like it. I think this will be one model where I say stay away from the real close up pics and stick to the overall. Not to shabby though I think you are heading down an interesting road with him.

there are more Sons of Orar in the pipeline... a 10 man forgeworld tactical squad in fact

oh and the reason for the "nice even application of colour and technique throughout all of the armour" is that I haven’t started painting it properly yet unless you are referring to the log I’ve done, in which case thanks

I’ve also got a 120mm US airborne GI to paint from verlinden

(i didn't paint this)

the figure is about 11cm high

ahhh vietnam GI... interesting how they went a little more grey then OD green like the actual uniforms. You are going to have a blast on that model and hate it all at the same time. Do you have a good airbrush?
