350 Canadian? Are you kidding me? I can't be the only one sniffing bull poop when the Warcry starter box comes with virtually the same amount of stuff, but is a full 150 Canadian less. What could GW POSSIBLY be thinking putting the box at this price?

That
A) they don't actually want to sell them
or
B) they're testing what level of crazy they can inflict on their customers before they break.... or if they break at all (which is a worrying prospect)

Well they broke me, and pretty much everyone else at the local Warhammer store. I knew 3 other people who were buying it, not anymore to any of us. We were uncomfortable with 250, 350 was a COMPLETE NOPE.

Geebus, I thought you were joking initially when I saw your post, but wow, that is insane. I was considering expanding into one of GW's boxed games for my gaming group in the new year, and I liked the new models I saw so far for Necromunda but at that price? NOPE. To Underworlds I go!

Putting that terrain into a starter box was a bad idea. It bloats the price to obscene levels. The card mortalis tiles in the initial boxed set were a better idea. I know I wouldn't want to pay that much money just to try out the game. It's too much of an initial buy in, I think they got the aeronautica box right in this regard.

Yeah, over in the other Necromunda thread, we pointed out how much terrain you can get from Mantic off Amazon. 90 USD (plus shipping and duties) for this much:
or 43 USD (plus shipping and duties) for this
I bought 2 Mantic Ruined Cities and my final bill was 320 CAD - after shipping and duties.

The only reason I'm "buying" this box is because there are 3 of us throwing money in on it. I just want the terrain, and I'm paying in $60.00.

The new set is a total dud for me. Not only I'm not too keen on the corpse grinders (the "juves" are ugly as all hell, the helmets are... great for berzerkers, I guess, but for these they look stupid, only cc weapons.... ugh) and a bit meh on the enforcers, but the terrain, at that price point, is disappointing as all hell. the amount of sprue real estate you need for a single pillar is plain stupid, and you get a very, vey limited amount of actual terrain for the huge amount of sprues you get. And then it turns out that the floor "tiles" is actually a single one, repeated over, and over, and over.
I also own three 3d printers, and I find that, for something as "boring" as simple walls? I have more than enough printing me some simple walls and adding resin or leftover plastic gubbins to them, for a fraction of the cost. Plus, you know, I already have more than enough scenery, both from GW and from Mantic (...but I bought another small set just now, just because the price is low enough and I like to have some around for projects >_& gt .

Eh you get way more terrain and you get plastic terrain boards, the boards in Warcry are card. Honestly GW should have dropped that box alongside individual releases of the contents of the box because basically all that box is is a "necromunda new wave release" all in one go.
That said they didn't waste time releasing the Warcry stuff on its own so it shouldn't be a long wait for the individual Necromunda.
I think that its just a DIFFERENT kind of box. Warcry box was very much aimed at starting you off; getting you into the game. This box is very much an expansion point for people who are already in the game and want to expand terrain in a serious way with the Zone Mortalis stuff whilst also getting some new Necromunda alongside. It's not made to be affordable, that's sort of the whole intent of it.

The board in the box isn't plastic, it's cardboard. You have to buy the plastic board separate.
And I disagree about that. This is very much supposed to be a starter box. It has all the measuring stuff, an updated rulebook, dice, etc. It has all the starter contents of the first box. If this wasn't a starter, they wouldn't feel the need to put the rules, and all the fluffy additions in because they'd presume people have them already, like the battle boxes that they release for 40K and AoS (Think Shadowspear)

I bought into AT at $290 (less online) but I won’t buy anything else like that. Those terrain sprues will be available separately at some point if you want them and the cost of that box is close enough to a 3D printer to make your own walls.

For every one of us that cries over the price there are several more that gobble it up.

Also don't forget that GWs cheap starter 40k game is now Kill Team, which segues the player more easily.into 40k proper. May as well go full on nuts with pricing for Necromunda.

And ferrari is pricey because people pay for pricey. If people stops buying ferrari you think ferrari keeps spending money on designing cars that cost more to ferrari than they get?

Ferrari has seen crisis as people stopped buying them
But they did not changed prices, they changed their product portfolio
Same for GW, just look at Lord of the Rings, the one Game that was really killed by high pricing (at least here as the LotR community was different from the Warhammer one people stopped supporting the game the moment the plastic models were priced identical to the Warhammer ones). The Game is still there and models are still expensive and back to the old price tag or even cheaper to save it.
AoS is similar, they went crazy with the first boxes and the new game concept.
But the just changed the game not the pricing.
If Necromunda is not selling well with premium prices, GW won't change that and sell stuff cheaper, they will just sell something else that is doing well with a premium price and stop doing Necromunda.
They have seen with AT that there is no "cheap" Starter Box needed to get people into the game.
Those are Premium Games for people who don't mind the price. If it is too expensive, you are not part of the target group.

I love the terrain in the box set but it seem lacking at that price point.
Everything I purchased from GW recently has been below the $200 price point.
I'm planning to wait till they repack it, then consider its value.

I... think GW learned the wrong lesson from the Adeptus Titanicus Grand Master bundle.
Or the right lesson. Which is even more depressing.
It's times like these I miss the original 90s Necromunda starter box. Back when GW wanted every boy in the UK to have a box of Warhammer under his bed. None of this premium luxury product nonsense.
That plastic bulkhead sprue is still my favourite bit of terrain GW ever did. Just one sprue with six squarish walls on it, but oh so versatile. All those official cardboard + bulkhead kits, for starters. And you could flat-pack the Necro terrain too.

I still have mine, but I think it's fair to say that the cardboard has not fared well at all, and if we're honest, the lack of any cover pieces limited the usefulness of the terrain; at least the newer sets come with some scatter and waist high walls to hide behind.
That said, I don't see why GW can't come up with a plastic version of the same basic idea, some of the current 40k terrain seems like it could have been made more snap-fit than it is. I got a Promethium Refinery box a while ago, and while I like it, and it's sort of modular, it's not exactly convenient to snap together and rebuild, and there are lots of unnecessary details that are just going to get broken if I do. Plus there aren't nearly as many of the modular parts as I had hoped, as the bulk of the set is in the big round tanks themselves, rather than the walkways.
The scenery in the new necromunda box seems one step in the right direction, and then two in the other, as while it's modular, it's also bulky, and really expensive.
What I really want is old-style Necromunda bulkheads but with plastic floor pieces, such that everything is flat and easily packed away, but going to last a long time. Give those floor pieces some pegs that I can then slot waist high walls, barrels etc. into and it'd be perfect, an evolution of the classic.

...hm
I'm thinking that I should be able to design something like that as stl files and print them at the thinckness of the cardboard included.... I could then use the bulkheads and still be able to unsassemble them.
Hm.

That's a good idea, for longer pieces it should still be possible to thicken it underneath so long as the edges are kept clear, maybe put some mesh or something down the middle on the top side for texture?
