STAR WARS REBELS Sequel Animated Series Rumored To Be On The Way As Soon As This Year

While we're all left to wonder which Jedi Knight the Mandalorian will track down in season two of the hit Disney+ series, it sounds like a new animated show will pick up with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren..

The Skywalker Saga has reached its end and all eyes are now on what comes next for the Star Wars franchise. We know that season two of The Mandalorian is in the works and an announcement about who will helm a new movie is expected imminently, but a rumour has popped up today claiming that we're getting another animated series.

Star Wars: Resistance has been something of a disappointment after the brilliant Star Wars Rebels, so you may be glad to learn that this show is reportedly going to be a follow-up to the latter.

The series would put the spotlight on fan-favourite Jedi Ashoka Tano and Sabine Wren as they attempt to track down Ezra Bridger and continue their adventures following the events of Rebels.

Dave Filoni is said to be involved in some capacity, but there's a chance he won't serve as showrunner (he's seemingly made the leap to live-action with The Mandalorian and would more than likely prefer to stay there given how well-received his work on that has been). There's no official word on this as of right now and if it is happening, Lucasfilm has done a great job of keeping the news under wraps.

We'll be sure to keep you guys updated if and when we hear more about this one.

Nice. I think Rebels is probably the high point of SW in recent years. If they can continue that level in a new series, I’m all in.

I didn’t care for it. Then again most Star Wars blends together for me.

Rebels was a brilliant show and would love another slice of that cake. Dave Filoni should recieve a Knighthood for his services to Star Wars!

Thsi thread inspired me to make a meme for the very first time

And I'm aware I've got the meaning of the scene backwards, thanks.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

so we're confirmed getting more clone wars and now we might get more Rebels?

He'd better be writing it and running the show.

Curious. The show ended so nicely. I think I'd rather see a new series that pulls the old characters in like they did with Clone Wars personally, but I'm curious what they have in mind.

the show ended nicely but it also ended very well placed for a sequal series.

Sabine and Ashoka puttering about the galaxy searching for Ezra, slowly assmbling a team of Maniacs/intreasting characters as they do so.

I am interested to see where they go with this but as the TV series have been really quite good (Resistance doesn't exist...) I have high hopes. A nice chance to explore the Unknown Regions perhaps but regardless if Ezra lives then it is probable that Thrawn does too and that should be excellent!

Oh, it definitely set up for more. I just didn't know if that more should fall under the Rebels banner or be a whole new concept that pulls in the characters is all.

Well, the rumour as is could mean it is just that - a follow up series, rather than extra seasons.

If I was in charge of naming said series I'd be tempted to call it "Star Wars: Jedi Search" a tip of the hat to the KJA story which was really the first orginized story in the old EU (prior to it there was no EU and the few entries mostly stood alone)

Yeah I'd rather a follow-up series than a new season of Rebels. Rebels finished. It told a complete story.

agreed, Clone Wars could use some extra seasons though to finish some storyline or present their beginning.

Well thankfully we're getting a final season of Clone Wars next month, so that's nice.

Is it the final series though?

Wouldn’t surprise me if we get more further down the line.

Wasn't that part of the Jedi Academy trilogy that came out after Zahn's Thrawn trilogy? Also, it sucked?

yes it came out after the thrawn trilogy, and yeah in retrospect it wasn't too hot. the thing is when Zhan wrote the Thrawn trilogy, it was stand alone, he didn't referance comic book events, the comics didn't referance his stuff, and neither mentioned the glove of darth vader kids books which where coming out at the same time.

It wasn't until the Jedi Academy trilogy, that it all sort of sgtarted referancing itself.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, I want to see Ashoka & Sabine(and, as said, hopefully Chopper) going on a whacky walkabout looking for Ezra(providing he's a little less whiny when they find him).

On the other, the pre-Sequel era is going to be extremely sterile and dull unless they start heavily retconning pretty much all the NuCanon material about it prior to The Mandalorian, so it ends up looking much more like the old EU in terms of Remnants and Warlords and a more engaging and pro-democracy take on the New Republic than "and then they turned into Not-Republicans versus Not-Democrats in the Not-US Congress and engaged in thirty years of futile arguing while nothing interesting happened elsewhere except crime because all the Imperials either died immediately or ran away to make the First Order".

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

Came out after the Thrawn books, not before. They were sequels. KJA, on the topic of writing his Jedi Academy trilogy, basically said that there were events in Dark Empire/Dark Empire II/Empire's End that he couldn't ignore (like the birth of Anakin Solo), so he included references and events from those books in his trilogy.

I tell ya, it was really weird reading those books in high school without ever having read the Dark Empire stuff. Didn't catch up on that for quite a while.

[EDIT]:(Sorry, that he couldn't ignore!)

Rebels was reasonable adequate, but for me no where near as good as Clone Wars (either the hand drawn micro series or the CGI one).

The problem was the focus on a Toy-worthy core cast who basically could do no wrong and could only change clothes once a season. Plus the series was more kid friendly so it never seemed like anyone could kill or die, a bit of an issue in a war show. And it required the Empire act like idiots (except for Arch Supreme Grand Admiral General Mary Sue of course). 4th season got a bit better but that feeling was always there that I was watching a slightly upgraded GI Joe cartoon.

Clone Wars had a huge cast and could go off and do a noir detective story or a comedy episode or a grand epic battle instead of dwelling on the same small handful of characters.

Not that I won't watch it but had to get that off my chest.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The start of Rebels was very kiddy, and that stops once Tarkin shows up and the Imperial Bulk and Skull are decapitated by the Grand Inquisitor.

But then in Season 4 there's this weird thing where the characters almost never kill the enemy, sometimes even stunning enemies when they have them dead to rights, or using lightsabers to disarm Stormtroopers, and things like that. Doesn't stop enemies from dying though, but they're always dying to falling off things, or from their own actions.

whoops yeah after the thrawn trilogy. and yeah the KJA books where the first time all the various SW properties where brought together. before that they where basicly stand alone.
