Subject: Grot Killteam - Now with The Grotspeeder-5000! And Weird grot.

Been trying to find projects to keep me amused and stay sane and I accidentally stumbled on to one.
My first game of KT was before lockdown and I enjoyed it a lot.
I borrowed a friends Orks as I’d never played it and a grot came through for me, finishing off the enemy leader.
After the game he gave me said grot as he was my star player.
Decided he deserved some conversion work and paint though to show off his new found glory.
That has now spiralled into a full blown killteam so I get tons of opportunity to convert and paint orks, something that I don’t usually tinker with.
Currently a small team as I’m working away on several models at once.
The leader: Ghazgrot (nob with Klaw and cybork body)
Then my “Burna boy” I wanted him to keep an Ork size so it doesn’t screw with LoS.
Next is some quick and simple ones.
My “Mini mek”, banner wavva and my assassin.
All relatively quick and simple conversions just to add a bit of character.
And finally, the only complete one so far, my heroic grot sharpshooter.
Got plenty of plans for expanding it though, including a loota conversion and a mini kan to use as a meganob.
Just want to get some foundation work done to build on now.
C&C always welcome, as with any weird and wonderful ideas.
The only downside is no bikers in KT as I had a plan for a mini grot plane :(
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Minor update.
Having read some fluff to pass the time and get ideas, I saw a piece that stated grots idolise anything that appeals to them.
I figured this little guy had witnessed an Eversor blitz through a mob of boys and decided that’s how he wanted to be.
Not sure if it’s creative or pure insanity (being home all day is getting to me) but this is where he’s at now.
Currently still heavily WIP but I’m happy with how he’s turning out so far.

Done more work on the eversor grot as I wasn’t keen on a few joins and had a couple of gaps.
Quick teaser of Ghazgrot too as I’ve had some time this morning to get painting.
Only really complete part is his squig though. (I always paint in sections from the top down)
Want to push myself to get him done as soon as I can, hopefully by tonight.

Making slow progress at the moment.
Currently just finished a 12 hour painting session and had to stop as I’m getting to the point that my eyes are beginning to strain.
Want to try and get Ghazgrot painted up today but he’s around 90% done so far.
Going to have a break for an hour or 2 then get back to it.
Current ideas:
Grot tank - I’ll be using this as a meganob, so it will be slightly smaller than the normal ones.
Want it to have the same rough profile as a meganob to prevent any issues.
Ymgarl grot - bit weird and wonderful really.
Plan on making a gas masked grot with tubes hanging from it like the feeder tendrils, then a mock 2nd pair of army strung to his normal arms.
Both are rough ideas currently so I’ll see how it goes.

That grot sharpshooter is... sharp.
I love everything about it. The pose, the gun, the base, the skin tone.
I really like the grot Eversor as well. The pose is a perfect parody of the real thing. This is going to be one extremely tough grot Kill Team! Are you going to use them as "counts-as" orks or what?

Thanks guys.
Plan is to build a full roster so it’s actually useable.
Due to the 20 model cap, I can’t do this with just grots as that would leave me just over half way to a 100 point game sadly.
However, I can convert like mad.
Planning to use things like Burna boys and Lootas by converting grots, so it will still be an all grot team visually.
Main thing is keeping all models to the right profile, so if something counts as a loota, it has to scale to a regular loota (while I want a cool looking team, I want it to be fair in games)
The eversor grot is now about done I think.
I smoothed out a few nitpicks I had with it and I’m happy, so it’s ready for paint.
Ghazgrot will get finished today too, so I’ll drop pics of him once he’s done.
Literally just have to paint his base and a few spot details and he’s good to go.
For game sake, he will be a Nob leader with Klaw and cybork body.
Plans:
Mangler squig but in mini.
I own a decent sized moonclan army and have enough spares to steal parts from.
Plan is to make a scaled down mangler squig.
No idea what it will count as yet, but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Monowheel/grot tank.
This will be my meganob counts as.
Still undecided yet as I’m tinkering with both ideas still.
Weird grot.
Will essentially be a weirdboy/shaman mix.
Want him levitating on green energy somehow, but it’s still in rough planning.
Feral grot.
Got a few spare crew from the arachnarok kit, so may purpose one of them for this.
Need a diminutive feral grot just because really.
I’ll get pics dropped today though, just want to finish Ghazgrot first. Automatically Appended Next Post: So, small update of the 2 first.
I wanted something chunkier to convert as it gave me more possibilities.
I remembered seeing some Ork monowheels a while back so decided to tinker.
Massively WIP at the moment as I’m still scraping pieces together and test fitting parts.
Biggest challenge is making it in parts so I can actually paint the thing.
And the big update of the 2, Ghazgrot is now finished.
Put a fair bit more effort into him as he is going to be the leader of the team.
Overall I’m happy with the paint job for now.
Could improve it but want a team painted to a decent standard first, then I’ll touch up painting.

But if a teaser really.
Apparently I had a spare stone troll, so figured I’d bring him into the team as my heavy hitter.
Still debating on his colour scheme though.
While blue feels right, I’m tempted to paint him as a giant mutant grot.
The “doomwheel” is still massively WIP too, just wanted to convert something that’s stands out a bit and can act as a meganob for the team.
The mangler squig is literally just started.
All I’ve done is cleaned them up and gap filled.
Need to add chains yet, a couple of spiked balls and tempted with a snotling rider.
That’s where I’m at so far.
Have slapped a base coat on the eversor grot but it’s nowhere near showable yet.

Thanks guys
So, do I paint the troll like a troll and go with blue, or so I call it a mutated grot and paint it green?
Been stuck on this one for a while.
Trolls don’t really have any appearance in the 40k world.
A mutated gargantuan grot those seems more feasible, as if a mad dok created it accidentally.
Currently leaning towards the latter of the two.
Maybe add some stim injectors into his back etc.

Managed to finish the 3rd team member.
Just counts as a regular grot sadly but he was good fun to make and paint.
Photos are a bit sketchy as I’ve just finished him now, but I’ll get proper pics in the morning.
Next up is the generic assassin grot I think as he will be quick and simple.
After than will be either the mono wheel or the troll (depending on which conversion I finish first)

Thanks for all the comments guys, really do appreciate it
Parts for Ghazgrot:
Legs - The Christmas red gobbo legs.
Then added “boots” from 0.5mm plasticard, shin plates, knee plates and waist plates.
Body - front plate made from the chest of a venerable dreadnought, with the top halo cut off.
This was then made square using plasticard.
The jaw plate is from the nobz kit.
Tabard is from the nobz kit.
Backpack - from the AoS arkanaut company set with a few bits of plasticard added to flesh it out.
Exhaust is just a stubber barrel.
Banner is from the nobz kit again, with the squig added to it from the same set.
Head is a regular grot head just with a scar cut into his eye and a lens added to it (not sure where that came from)
Shoulder pads are just from the nobz kit.
Arms were more tricky.
The shoulder joints are chopped down grot blastas with added plasticard.
The Klaw arm then has a small part of a grot arm added between that and a Klaw from the nobz kit again.
The gun arm is the same design but just with an Ork Slugga at the end.
Both arms then have fairly extensive plasticard used to build housings around the arms.
Past that, plasticard and sprue has been used on all joints (knees, elbows etc) to form a sort of hinge for the suit.
All the power cables come from the MK4 marine kit, they are the power lines from lightning claws just cut into single pieces.
Base is just a Necromunda 40mm with some shell casings made from chopped down skink javelins.
Think that’s about it.
Wasn’t really planned as much as it was hashed together from various parts in my Bitz box and plasticard.
Not really used stuff that thin before so it was definitely a learning curve.
More progress going on though!
Just slightly slowed as I work 1 week of 14 hour shifts then have the following week off, so this is sadly my slow week.

Thanks guys.
More progress now as I enter my week off work again.
Means I can really hammer into it a lot more than usual.
Firstly, the mutant big git.
He’s close to paint ready, I just need to tweak it a little more.
Hopefully I can start painting him soon.
Next, the grot monowheel tank thing.
Was an absolute pain to paint as I couldn’t do so in parts, so had to paint it all assembled, which was a real headache.
Once the varnish dries I can take him off his paint pot stand and get him with the gang.
That’s as it stands for now.
Going to start painting up some of the more basic guys soon too just to get them done.
Also planning a scenic base for them to be displayed on but can’t really do too much until I know how big the team will be.
And while I think of it, a quick team shot too.

Thanks guys.
I learned from my mistakes this time and kept it in pieces, but this was easier to do that with.
Initial idea was a “grot-air” balloon.
Didn’t go as planned though and I just couldn’t get it to a stage that I was happy with.
Despite spending hours chopping and changing parts it just never looked right to me.
That however lead to this, as I just tinkered away with the frame of the carriage I’d made.
I call it the “Grotspeeder-5000”
Rapid response attack speeder for all the random needs.

Made a few alterations to the grotspeeder as it wasn’t looking right.
Strapped a pair of rokkits to the sides and also removed the claw as it just looked very bug like and I wasn’t keen on that.
I’ll throw out some pics soon if that as painting has started.
Now the newest member of the team, The weird grot.
Unusually born with the weirdboy ability to harness waaagh! Energy but with even less control.
Pics aren’t great as it looks cluttered, but I’m hoping the paint can’t pull it through and get the look I’m hoping for.
Wanted to make sure he looked 40k enough and not just like a goblin shaman, so again the paint can hopefully help confer that look for me.
C&C welcome as always.

Great stuff here, always good to see some grot love. Nice conversions and paint, weathering on Ghazgrot is lovely.
Maybe some cables on the staff for the weird-grot if you're worried about 40k-ing it up? A coup!e of loose wires hanging off it might help sell the techno-shaman look - but then I'm always biased towards wires and cables
