Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for forums where it is possible to have (reasonably) measured discourse on the events of the day?
I know Facebook is a waste of time.
Youtube.. I think if Skynet is created, becomes self-aware and looks at the comments section, it would be entirely justified to press the big red button.
Speaking personally it really, really hurt to see the Covid thread closed here as it was such an outlet - at the risk of sounding like I am brown-nosing, for the most part I think people on this forum are pretty well informed and are capable of civilised discussion, while at the same time I can completely understand the 'no politics' rule that unfortunately that subject necessarily will always stray into.
But, in the absence of that, it would be nice to find an alternative. I have got a pretty narrow view of the internet so would be very grateful if any recommendations could be made!

I’d be interested in this, too. A lot of the old forums I used to go to have either withered, like Stardestroyer.net, or become afraid of the current climate of discourse, like Dakka. I find the political threads on the OTZone Wasteland board fairly informative and reasonable, but with a particular focus that won’t suit everybody or cover all topics.

Definitely not Reddit. Reddit leans harder to one side depending on the sub than Dakka ever did (when politics could be discussed).
TBQH, I doubt there is a place on the internet that hasn't been reduced to an echo chamber.

Some fb pages are ok. At least you won't be banned by the admins. L'il zucky's censorbots are another matter.

If you want to discuss that stuff with people from the Dakka crowd in a relatively untethered environment, there's always the Wasteland.

Moderation over there is...light touch however, shall we say? So you won't be protected by Rule 1 and our friendly local moderation staff of petty left-wing tyrants, dictatorial right-wing autocrats, and hypocritical centrist overlords (apply whichever label you prefer depending on your political stance)

As far as I can tell, there is no moderation there at all. Only a few death threats, though.
