Just wondering with the release of some codexes if any one had been officially given the Supreme Commander rule or key word?
I’m thinking Silent King or Logan Grimnar?

The Silent King does, but none of the Chapter Masters so far do (not Logan or any of the FW ones).

It's going to be saved for Primach level leaders for armies. It's going to be pretty sparingly given out, and only for Lord of War characters, so they can be included in an army without costing a heap of CP.

So far it's just the Primarchs, and Silent King. I don't expect any other existing datasheets gaining the keyword.

Since the slot can be filled by HQ as well, I’d be willing to bet that the likes of Abaddon, Gazkull and Shadowsun will get it as well when their books come out. Doesn’t Shadowsun already have a rule called Supreme Commander?

Basically major race leaders who belong to specific sub-factions, but also lead a large part of the faction as a whole (and importantly, have expensive plastic kits GW want to sell to everyone playing that army).

Yup, I doubt there will be a non-Supplement book without at least 1 Supreme Commander character. GSC is the only one I can honestly see without one.

Primarchs do not have the "Supreme Commander" keyword. Them having "Primarch" or "Daemon Primarch" lets them be in a SC detachment.

It's abysmal that they haven't gone and added more yet. Cawl, Shrike, Grimnar, Azrael, Shadowsun, GSC Patriarch, Swarmlord--all of these fit a SC concept.

Thematically Dante would be a good fit for this keyword since he's in charge of half of the Imperium, nominally.

I was thinking that too, he’s top brass on his side of things. I had actually double checked yesterday if he had it in the PDF document but no dice. Maybe in the finished Codex Supplement? (Probably not.)

Really? First 2 codex released already have units for them.

Gw: "we will release supreme commanders with new codexes"

Players: "why my old codex doesn't yet have supreme commander?"

Its quite a big chunk of foc potebtiaky to sone armies..

Could have easily faq'd it and given the keyword to major named character from every faction.

Just like how most people are waiting for rules to justify their points hikes...

Its crapshot design.

GW doesn't seem to be very much in to the free thing. Unless it is something like the players fixing rules or broken models, with their own stuff. Then GW is all for the free handling of those issues.

I think people are seriously over estimating the number of Supreme Commander characters GW will put out. I expect the following:

Robute Guilliman and any Loyalist Primarchs for Imperial
Magnus, Mortarion, and any Chaos Primarchs for Chaos
Shadownsun for Tau
Ghazghkull Thraka for Orks
The Silent King for Necrons

If Vect ever gets a model, he'll be a Supreme Commander.
If you stretch the concept, maybe Eldrad.

But that's it. The detachment isn't there to allow you to add an additional HQ to your list. It exist for those characters that transcend a particular faction or subfaction and would take charge of any situation they find themselves in.

That's literally what the detachment is there for. An ability to 'add characters of legendary status to your army without sacrificing your army's headquarters slots'.

Reiterating: Supreme Commander is something that is woefully underutilized. I can think of several characters, right now that should have been given the keyword via FAQ.

really? care to name them? because if you start naming people like Logan Grinar, Dante etc. yeah sorry no.

Alextroy's list is proably about it, save MAYBE Creed

Right behind you.

Kaayvan Shrike: Chapter Master of the Raven Guard, currently operating alongside of a detachment of the First Company after scattering his Chapter across the Imperium on missions.
Logan Grimnar arguably qualifies since he could bring the whole of the Chapter together. Dante and Azrael both can do the same not just with their respective Chapters but also their Successors. You can choose to ignore them or whatever, but it doesn't change that these three are major characters that deserve at least as much recognition as the dunce that is Guilliman or the twerps that are Mortarion and Magnus.
Belisarius Cawl: Effectively the head of the Mechanicus right now. Any warzone he shows up in, he can take command of not only Mechanicus forces but also Mechanicus aligned Knightly house forces and Titan Legions in theater.
Farsight and Shadowsun both could qualify for that status as well.
Inquisitors, if we have to keep them on the battlefield again forever and ever should be getting this status.
Swarmlord, obviously.
Genestealer Patriarch
Abaddon and Huron both could qualify.
Ghazghkull Thrakka.
Phoenix Lords
Yvraine and the Triumvirate of Ynnead.

I see no real 'Supreme Commander' figure for Guard despite wanting to say Creed should get it. Arguably a SC figure should be a unifying factor or something that wouldn't be a 'regular' on the battlefield. Someone of the status of Warmaster and his followers would be a good call here.

If I had my dang way, even Space Marine Captains, Librarians, and Chaplains wouldn't be normal HQs--they'd be a "Chapter Command" choice that gives multiple models in a SC detachment.

If its a straight up pissing contest in terms of who gets to boss around the most people

IOM I think cawl is 100% a supreme commander material.
Ad-mech basically run the imperium war machine. And if cawl says titan legion go here.. the titan legion goes there. G-man has to ask cawl to ask the titan legion to go somewhere.. Just sayin.

Also whoever the custard boss man is. Reckon he can tell people what to do pretty darn well.

For eldar I would argue Asurmen(possibly eldrad). If Asurmen turns up on your craftworld and says "right lads we need to go here and cap this place" There is no Autarch/Farseer that would say. "wheelll ahhhctualy... who do you think you are!." I mean they can but the aspect warriors and military assets would just follow him anyway... Hes THE phoenix lord.

Solitaire for quins maybe? not sure what the lore is for him now but he used to be a bigger mythical unicorn type character than primarchs..

Chaos - Abbadon - He is the dang war-master

Orks - Ghaz - he is da biggest meanest ork... And all orks will all follow the biggest meanest ork.

GSC - No idea - I guess the patriach

Nids - Swarmlord

Tau - Faright / Shadowsun

I think all the Supreme Commander would need to at least be named Characters. So the Patriarch and Solitare need to become something special among their peers, and have a background stories associated with them.

Nah. Supreme Commanders don't need to be named characters necessarily. Some factions just don't really have the frameworks necessary for it.

And the Solitaire isn't a leader. The Great Harlequin would be a better fit for that role.

Yeah the only named characters quins get is in a SOB army.. so...

My apologies I foget solitaire is a bit like the AOK.. I was thinking back to my OG homebrew fluff pre quins codex solitaire was like the unicorn sort of deal. I havent really had the opportunity to read/own the harlequins codex so im stuck in old headcannon a bit.

I would add that Both The Triumph of Saint Katherine and Saint Celestine transcend Orders, so they're both candidates.

The swarmlord does not transcend Hive Fleet, though its description does make it seem like it would; I suspect it will lose <Hive Fleet> in the new dex, which would make it a more suitable candidate.

While Dante doesn't transcend Chapter, the point about him being the absolute commander of all Imperial forces in the Imperium Nihilus IS a pretty strong argument.

and Cawl proably works for it too, Cawl in fact strikes me as a good canidate. people are too busy looking for ways to argue who should be added because they wanna give everyone "their fair share at a free HQ slot" but thats not what supreme command is for. supreme command is for people like Gulliman, Ghaz, Shadowsun etc whom are all legitimate leadership chocies for an entire faction no matter what chapter tactics you choose to run

Agree with this. The thing people are overlooking is that these Supreme Commanders go to battle without even a single member of their own sub-faction being present.
IMO this is what disqualifies Logan, Dante, Helbrecht, Shrike, Farsight, Huron and so on from the role. They would be in command, but they would never go to battle without bringing their own guys, assuming their retinue would allow them to go alone in the first place. This also is why I'm unsure about Abaddon getting it, if he went to lead an army of World Eaters or Emperor's Children by himself, I'm pretty sure he would end up dead.

And then there is also the possibility that GW reserved this keyword just for centerpiece models and gave it little thought outside of that
